Pics Side-by-Side '09 vs '12
Took some pics at the dealer today of my 09 cbp next to a 12. Can't figure out how to get the images into my post...can someone tell me? I'd like to have the pics as part of the post like many of you do...not as attachments or links.
Thanks!

Its the little pic in yellow and gray that looks like a mountain. Post the picture someplace on the web, either here on AZ, or photobucket. Then copy the link code to the page IE: <http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1411/5169745543_6f08bf9e5f_b.jpg> into the pop-up and your good to go.

Ok thanks Mr. Marco...got the pics loaded. I guess at this point I believe the pics speak for themselves so I will refrain from making any comments...and let you all tell me what you think...
Obviosuly it's not a complete apples to apples comparison as mine is the AWD with the 18 wheels...and I have the chrome grill upgrade. But we can still compare the front and back end changes. Sorry the pics are a little dark...it was cloudy.

Oh....... I have to say that contrary to my previous comments, in CBP, and with the dark chrome grille, the 09 looks BETTER than the 12.... I am so surprised by this myself.
Otherwise, in other colors I have seen so far, the 12 seems to be nicer. I guess the 2012's base 17" wheels make matter worse though, when comparing to the nice 5 spoke wheels of the 2009 SH-AWD.

Poor Acura, they just can't win.. They just missed the mark on the TL this gen.. j/k
I like the back better on the 12 but not liking either grille all that much. I wish they had done something else with the grile area. I like the shape of it opening though... since Acura feels they must have a nose with that shape, the smile... I hope RJ comes up with something for the grille soon or I'll have to pull out my toots, fiberglass, etc....

one of these
I noticed your observation , the vast majority of those disliking the '12 own a 4G already. I found myself defending the '12 just because I no one had, at the time, seen one.
Oh well, I will draw my own conclusions when I do side by side compo. I would have a hard time buying a '09-'11 though, knowing it didn't have the upgrades of the '12, all of which I want.
Could Acura have done more ... or less? Hell yeah.. but it is what it is.

I guess I am in the minority of saying I think the 12's look better. But only by a little, the 4G exterior styling still hasn't grown on me much, but the trimmed down grill at least for me is a big improvement. The worst part about the old grille I think, was that the sides of it extended all the way to the edge of both headlights and above and below them. Just wayy unproportionate. If you look at the ZDX it's grille isn't like that. It was a smart move by Acura to fix it.

I think the 12's look SICK. Definitely an improvement over the 09-11's. A friend of mine who's in the market for a car recently just saw the 11s and did not like the styling, especially the front. When i showed him the '12 model, he also thought it was a major improvement and will wait for them to come out to purchase one.

It was weird yesterday, I went with a friend I work with who was ready to purchase a SH-AWD in a next few days to see the 12...he and 3 other observers were feeling the 09-11 version, the one view shared, it gets lost in the crowd. Take a look at the pictures I posted on another thread. Not that the car is bad, but Acura may have gone from too aggressive to too passive. *one comment that made me laugh was the passenger of a person in a, what I believe was an 08, Type-S, she said it looked to feminine or as she said to bitch like.

I have an '11 Tech as a loaner and like the way it drives in addition to the extra room compared to my 3g. I could see myself in one (if I can't get an acceptable deal on a '12) but I'll do what many people have done and either color matched the grill or buy the RJ grill.

'Sinister' is a good description for the 09, although I wonder if we would say the same if it had the stock silver grill instead of the dark chrome grill.
Also, when I saw the 12 TL and the new TSX on the lot...in my opinion the TSX looked better as it has some other front end touches that give it a more aggressive look.
I agree though the 12 design will likely sell better and appeal to a broader audience. As for me...I went nuts over the 09 the very first time I saw it and have loved it ever since. Seeing the 12 hasn't changed my opinion. I do believe Acura is missing it with using standard silver treatments on their grills etc. I think chrome is the way to go for a classier look more fitting of a luxury / premium brand.

If you're going with a concept such as the power plenum, you have to be a little ostentatious at the least; unfortunately they ended up being too conservative with the 2012; just watered down the design a tad too much...
When the 4G was launched, someone came up with this and I think it's establishes a good balance...not too ostentatious...not too conservative...
Honda needs to take Acura in a different direction altogether...especially with the next generation of cars...make it a more global brand than it is right now (China and Mexico are good additions)...also give it its own unique models and not just rebrand European/Japanese Honda's...and drop the power plenum altogether...

IMO this version of the power plenum grill is bad ass! What I didn't like about the 9-11 grill was it rolled up onto the hood and the lines were off. This version stops at the lines of the headlights and brings everything together. This is all they needed to do. Acura struck out again with the '12. Very Bland

Left just 2 pictures
I have described what ART is all about in past post, but look at the first picture and just follow the lines from the front of the right wheel well around the front of the center of the car compared to splitting up the front pumper on the 12 looks odd to me. The second picture is just way to hard to figure out?? The 2009 looks Proud and In Your Face. The 12, well I just cant figure it out, as it no longer FLOWS from top to bottom... These side by side comparisons place the 2009-2011 far ahead of the 12 in style.. As for the rear of the car, well those Dual Exhaust say POWER and COOL loud and clear... Your eye goes right for those aggressive exhaust and tips the style over to the 09-11! I need to get to bed, but I am also wondering if the 6 speed AUTO will give you that aggressive feel you get now with the 5 speed in Sport mode when using paddle shifters??

I could sit here and write the opposite opinion for the '12, which I find to flow much better than the early model. My version of art...
Tom-ay-to, tom-ah-to..
You have what you think is the "better' model, be happy.

Three Wheelin'
For all the bitching we do about how we didn't like the 4.0s and the 4.0 owners who don't like the 4.5, the reality is that you could have average Joe-Blows standing on the side of the freeway watching both versions go by, and probably 98% of them will not even see the difference.
