OK, decided to pull the trigger on a new Acura

dilemma!

Found the dealership i want to use but not home yet from deployment and now i think i want a RL instead of a TL.

what is your opinions?

Car will mainly be driven by wife, no kids yet maybe in a couple of years.
Looking to keep the car for a long time.

Not sure what the RL brings to the table any more, the TL is as big, a tad more powerful, handles as good or better and I find the interiror more spacious than a RL. The RL does bring exclusivity as they only sell about 150 a month. May also be hard to unload when you want to since it is not a popular car. The TL is Acura's flagship sedan. The RL will give you a few extra features if you spend for them.

well i think if the 12 tl shawd is for sale soon enough ill that with advanced pkg if not then a 11 with tech.

was thinking about the RL as many say its built better since i plan on keeping the car. i guess im just gonna have to test drive both to really know. suck being the ghan and not being able to just check em out in person but it does keep me from impulse shopping.

Not to mention the considerable price difference if you're talking new.

you seem really anxious to get one. Why not wait until the 2012 TL's come out and see if you like those. You'll be kicking yourself later when you have the older buck tooth beaver version with Tech instead of a new Advance package.

Not necessarily true. Some like the 09-11 TL look. I dare say some may be kicking themselves in the butt if Honda screws up the intro of the 6spd AT the way they did the 5spd.

well i would like to wait for the 2012 TL SHAWD with advanced PKG to come out but I'm home for only 30 days and then back out here. The wife is forced to drive my truck which gets 15mpg an hour to work everyday; so when i am home i have to buy her a new car.

I used to have a CL and a TL back in the day and i have always wanted a new TL or RL and now i can get one well get my wife one. buying the wife a car is like buying your wife a bowling ball with your name on it isnt it. LOL ... AL bundy thing i guess HA!

(She is driving my truck cause i talked her into selling her Mercedes when we moved to FL. I hated that car lol.)

I actually compare my 2010 vs 2012 and I like my 2010 better with stock grill ? maybe not - but painted to match the car yes.. the new TL grill seems sooooo boring.. so plain, so average, so...... adult.... blah

Agree with you on that one. The new grill looks bland and boring and the car does not look as stealh looking and the old one. That's my opinion to each it's own.

What makes anyone think the RL is built better. I think the 4G TL is one of the best built cars out there. Only other car I ever owned that came close was a 93 Camrly XLE (back when it was desigend as a Lexus first, then a Toyota). My 4G felt so tight and the doors were like closing yourself inside a bank vault. My M37 cost over $13K more and is not built anywhere close to as good as my 09 TL was.

I like the RL better as well, but there is no way to make a case for it. Compare it to a 2012 TL with advance package. The TL has everything the RL has and gets MUCH better gas mileage.

Choices

If you like the RL, and it's your first choice, then go for it. I've always been fond of all the Acura models. The RL is the top of the line for luxury ... but I prefer not to spend that much cash for a ride ... so I went with the TL Tech Pkg. with 18" wheels. Most beautiful and technolgy enhanced car for the money ...
Drive both .. then decide.

I resemble that remark...I am 57 and just bought a 2011 Tl AWD and had a 06 TL before that.

Go for an RL if you want exclusivity... you and the other 13 people that bought one can get together at the local IHOP and compare mods.

(JK, RL owners... Acura may have left your vehicle for dead, but I still consider you brethren...)

That's exactly what I was thinking. Why else would they take so long to roll out the 6spd AT when competitors are putting them in their compacts. I think took honda almost ten years to make a somewhat reliable 5spd AT.

+1. I'm 56 and just bought my 4th TL a couple months ago (2010 FWD/Tech WDP/Ebony). Have to admit that the retro musclecars were tempting but insurance cost and $4 a gallon gas (soon) were turn-offs. But if we wanted comfort alone we'd all be buying Lexus!

Good luck! Just buy what YOU like, not what anyone else likes. You are the one that has look at it in your driveway, the one that gets to wash it, the one one that sees it in the parking lot as you walk up to it.... so get what appeals to you, be it the RL or TL.

All the best!

Congratulations, senile32nd, from a longtime Acura owner! And thank you for your service in the 'stan.

Just a friendly warning: Be careful just before driving straight into a ramp like a driveway. The long front overhang and low ground clearance can cause a scrape. I find it's better to do an angled approach into my driveway rather than straight in. To be fair, my dad's 1994 Chevy Malibu (hardly a sporty ride, haha) does the same thing.

Never happened with my 1997 Legend and 2000 TL, though.

My '08 with A-Spec lip kit scrapes on many, many occasions. The angled approach is the only way to go.

Congrats senile32nd!

senile. you'll love your tl. its my first one, & i just love it. i had a 07 g35, & it was a great car. But the tl is so comfortable. not as much umph as the g, but smooth ride!!! congrats on your new ride!!
@ keith L. no, my tl is white. this one was in the shop. they claim that it was the show car in the 2010 car show, & they will lower it, & do other stuff to it. hopefully mines will look like that. i bought the "factory body kit". 3,000$$ ouch. but it'll be worth it after its on.

The most important part of this equation....the wife loves it.

Dude-will the wife want all these mods? If you're not driving it much and she doesn't care about the mods-save your money....

Ah, the JAX, I use to roam around their a bit during the late 90's. We are talking FL not NC correct? LOL

Either way I believe she will enjoy the 4G TL....still enjoying the ride myself and the ownership experience has been wonderful to this point.
