New member: 2012 Acura TL SH-AWD (6MT)
Hi guys, just purchased my 2012 Acura TL SH-AWD in black on Saturday. I purchased it for $15,500 and it had 152,600 KM on it. Let me start my spiel by saying that I spent about 6-7 months looking for a AWD TL with 6MT and when I found this one, I had to get it. I found this in Kingston, which is a city about 2 hours drive east of Toronto. It was being sold at a Dodge dealership, some guy traded it in and got a Charger SRT. The first day it was posted on Auto trader, I saw the pics, read the carproof and looked up some reviews on the dealership and decided to purchase the car over the phone. I would have got this baby last weekend but the dealership delayed saying that one of the rims were bent so they needed to order new ones. I asked them what else they "fixed" and they say there was a small crack on the windshield they replaced and they replaced the brakes and rotors all around. When I got there on Saturday, I first drove the car and it was smooth. Car was clean, no noises or sounds, and shifted smooth. I noticed that the rims they put on were the 19's, which I believe only comes with the Elite models. Not a big deal for me, personally I'm liking the 19s. Upon driving the car back to Toronto is when I noticed a couple things. Firstly, there is a static like noise coming from the front passenger side. This noise is only heard above 100 KM/H and gets somewhat progressively louder as I go faster. It sounds similar to the window being open, but it was not open. The second thing was that the car had a slight pull to the drivers side but not too noticeable and not that big of a deal for me. Upon arriving back to Toronto, I told the dealership of the noise and they say they would get back to me but haven't heard from them yet. I also requested a history of what was done to the car at the dealership. Other than that, I love this car and I am having so much fun with it. I can't wait to start the mods. Coming from a 06 TSX (6MT), when I'm driving this my foot can't help but get heavier on the gas LOL.
I know I'm going to get the "ThisThreadIsUselessWithoutPics" as soon as I post this, so I will try to snap some when I get home from work today. Stay tuned.

Noises like that at speed could be a lot of things - loose stickers, degraded weather stripping, loose or bent undercarriage plastic, you name it. It's hard for them to do anything about it. Does Canada do anything like CarFax?
The pulling to the side will probably be taken care of by new tires and an alignment. Doesn't hurt anything in the meantime.

Yes, in Canada it is called a Carproof. I did get the carproof before buying it, the carproof showed 2 previous owners and no accidents or anything.
I figured the pulling to the driver's side is due to alignment, which I'm guessing they didn't do after installing the new rims. The car did come with brand new all season tires by the way.

If it is the prop shaft, I should get this checked out ASAP. I am going to follow up with the dealership again, if no response, I'm just going to take it to my mechanic and see what he says.
Side note, I ordered some LED light bulbs. Got 2 for the license plates and 1 for the trunk. Just realized that we don't have courtesy lights on the doors, I was close to ordering a pair for those too. Why would Acura do this??
I am also going to be ordering some fog light bulbs and DRL light bulbs too. After doing some research on here, I see that alot of people went with LEDs for their fog lights and DRLs. Just wondering why LED over halogen? My plan was to get some Nokya hyper yellow (2500K) halogen bulbs and put them in for the fogs and DRLs. I ran these on my TSX and the output was amazing and didn't sacrifice visibility or blind other drivers.
I know I said I will post some pics yesterday but I didn't get around to doing it. I will post some tonight.

Hey guys, I am hearing that we, in Toronto, are going to get our first snowfall this week.
So I am looking for some good winter mats and I know Weathertechs are the way to go. Since I am not a fan of the liner, I would like to get just the mats for the front and back. On the Weathertech site, it does not list any mats for the 2012 TL but it does have it for the 2009. Anyone used the 2009 ones in their 2012+? Would the fit be the same?
If any of you use mats other than from Weathertech, please suggest.

The inconvenient truth
I'm on the other side of lake Ontario but I hope it doesn't snow this week! Winter tires going on next weekend I think.
The weathertechs are the way to go but they don't list them for the 6MT because they would have to make them different to not interfere with the third pedal. Seems they decided not to do that probably due to low demand. But if you order the ones for the same car but automatic then all you have to do is cut a small strip off the top left of the drivers mat and it will fit perfectly fine. Theres a thread on here somewhere that people have done exactly this. I can't seem to find it.... I didn't look very hard though.

The weathertechs you are referring to is the floor-liner correct? I am actually not a fan of the liner and tbh most of the time it's just me in the car so I cannot justify spending $300+ on the liner. I wanted to get just the all-weather mats for the front and back. It's weird how they have the all-weather mats for the 2009-2010 on the weathertech site but not for the 2011+. Would the 2010 mats fit for me?
I been doing some research and found Findway, a company based out of Toronto that does custom liners but no mats. Although their liners are only $100.

Oh I guess I am referring to the floor liners, these ones here;
https://www.weathertech.ca/en/acura/...ion/automatic/
They aren't cheap but their awesome. worth the price imo. I don't really know anything about the mats.

Replaced the reverse light bulbs with LEDs yesterday. Here is a before and after shot. I have not taken any shots in the night yet.
I got them from superbrightleds. To be honest, I had no problem with back up visibility before, so this mod was done purely for aesthetics. Looks sick at night !

Hey guys, not sure if I should make a new thread for this, but let me know if I should.
So let me start from a couple weeks ago, I was doing some spirited driving on the way home from work one day and there was this tempting twistie. As soon as I completed my satisfying rip through the twistie, I almost immediately got the "Check SH-AWD system" and "Check emissions system" messages both at the same time on my MID. I turned off the car and checked the manual but couldn't find anything relating to this. So 5 minutes later I turned my car back on and this time only the "Check emissions system" message was on. After doing a little googling, I came across a few MDX-ers and RDX-ers with the same issue. It's almost the same situation as me, except that they were not spirited driving but just getting on or off the freeway. Many users just suggested to use an ODB2 reader and clear the code and see if it comes back. So i did just that and the lights did not come back. Now a couple days ago, I was going to the store when a riced out C350 kept revving his engine at the light. I thought I would take him up on the offer. I knew I could confidently beat him. So the race is on and I'm getting high up in the revs and as soon as I got close to 5500 RPM, I feel like the car couldn't go more. The car immediately jerked slightly and voila, both SH-AWD and Emissions messages came on. The feeling was almost like I was hitting redline but I was only at like 5500 RPM. Anyone know what is causing this?
Just to make sure it wasn't another "one-off" situation, I tried hitting redline again but I was not able to pass 5500 RPM.

Find out what codes it threw and it will give you an idea of whats wrong.
If its fine under 5500 rpm then it could be vtec related, possibly even low oil. Have you checked your oil to make sure its not low? Vtec moves a lot of oil so if its low it will throw codes when vtec turns on.
