Need new brakes, upgrade-yes or no
 

Just had my first B1 service. My rear brakes are almost dead according to dealer. Instead of paying the 300$ to replace them with OEM I'm thinking about just doing all brakes with cross drilled slotted
rotors and pads.

But I'm not sure if I should so I'm looking for advice from you guys on stay with OEM or upgrade? Also, if I upgrade, do I have to do the brake lines as well?

I'd say stick with the OEM rotors/pads. Somehow the aren't as bad as typical Honda rotors and pads that use to be horrible a decade ago. BUT, change to stainless steel brake lines, front and back. I changed 2 summers ago to the ones sold by XLR8 (vendor in the forum) and after 2 hard Canadian winters they are holding up just fine. Braking doesn't improve, but the feel of the brake paddle is so much more firm and easy to read than the OEM ones after a few thousand miles. Now if you decide to go with aftermarket rotors, or even the OEM ones, put some effort to paint the hubs with some anti rust stray and a coat or two of paint on top of it, the hub part tends to rust. Have fun, safety first.

I had these on my list a few months ago for my 09TL. Prices may have changed a bit. A StopTech or Rotora kit would be nice upgrade but in another 50k miles or whatever it'll be more $ to replace the pads etc. Drilled/slotted are nice but I'm not racing around a track. For everyday use was thinking these would be good. Think Akebono is OEM.

The thing about cross-drilled and slotted rotors is for normal every-day usage, those types of rotors, while maybe cool looking, are actually a downgrade in performance.

I am running for almost one year the same exact set up that atomlinks listed and I am very pleased. Centric makes great products and the Akebono brake pads leave minimal dust unlike the OEM pads, believe me your rims will stay clean longer. You will probably find them a bit cheaper in rockauto.

Yeah, Akebono pads are good. Duralast Gold from Autozone have been pretty good to me as well. The Akebono don't dirty up my wheels as much though.

as for me regardless of what car i drive, brand new or used, first thing i change is pads/rotors.

Glad to hear you're liking the lines! If you want to improve braking you'll need to change the pads, or fluid. If you really want to see a performance increase out of the rotor you'll need to increase the size of it so it can hold more heat (so that pretty much means stepping up to a BBK). However, the lines are a great way to improve pedal feel and constancy just like you mentioned! The little review is much appreciated. :)
