Muller's Woodfield Acura, IL - incoming service report
Well, tomorrow I drop off the ole' girl for a few issues. I'm hoping Muller's comes thru with flying colors. I'll update when I pick her up in a couple days. Here's the issue list:
whistling heard at speeds above 55 - i'm guessing throttle body, but maybe something else?
Subwoofer blown - yeah, this is so dumb - I rarely listen to anything over volume 10 and today the woofer just completely cut out
The dreaded Torque converter issue - the service manager didn't want to deal with it over the phone, citing it was normal, etc. I pointed out the TSB, and he said my car may fall in the VIN numbers effected. Of course the usual charge would be required if they don't find anything wrong. I can guarantee you now I won't pay a cent.
The car is only 2 years old and only 23K miles. As much fun as I've had with this car I'm incredibly disappointed that its having these issues so young. I've had 4 camry's and an avalon that never required any shop time. Hell my 2000 Grand Prix never saw the dealer until it was over 5 years old.
We've been looking at a lot of other vehicles lately and honestly I really want to get back into a Toyota product.

I got my TL from there (Mueller's) as well and took it to the shop a little over a month ago.
I received excellent service from Kim over there. She was super nice and super helpful.
I didn't have any of the problems you are having... my issue was my A/C was not getting cold. Needless to say, it is running perfectly now.
Mine is FWD if it matters.
There is a restaurant called "House of Pho" like not even 2 minutes away. Personally I love Pho so just wanted to throw that out there in case you get hungry

LOL thanks for the recommendation. I usually stop by Cabelas on my way home. Great excuse to visit the Acura dealer. I'll keep you guys updated, but as it turns out I had to reschedule to next Tuesday for the service appt. I just found out I'm heading to Iowa tonight and won't be back until Friday.

Well, dropped the car off this morning and so far impressed with Muller's service. A mechanic went on a drive with me to see the issues, and when we got back they plugged in the computer and sure enough I was missing some software updates to the tranny. They applied the latest update and took the car for a wash. Afterwards the service manager called me back in to the shop and they found a squeak in the steering wheel and wanted to replace a solenoid? Does that sound right? Anyway, its under warranty so I said why not!
They gave me a FWD TL loaner. Lets just say you don't know what you've got until its gone. This car is nothing like mine. Its a nice car, but I would never buy one. The seats are uncomfortable, the steering is numb, lots of body roll, and the loss of AWD handling was incredibly apparent. Different strokes for different folks I guess, but I can truly see now what my extra $$ got me.

I'll let you know, on my drive with the mechanic the car didn't do it, so they'll see if they can recreate it. Its an intermittent annoyance for me, and usually with music on I'd never notice it, but with passengers/conversation on the highway is typically when it can be heard. A friend with an F-150 has the same problem, and its constant, literally sounds like someone whistling under the hood at any speed. The shop told him his throttle body needed to be cleaned out

Picked up the car about 2 hours ago, in pouring rain no less. To expound on my last post, I LOVE the SH-AWD. The FWD loaner I had doesn't hold a candle to my car. It felt so good to get back in those supportive seats...Anyway...
The journey back I never had the issues with the Torque converter I was having before. They did the tranny software update, but no physical work on the converter. The mechanic told me they fixed the physical issue on 2012 and up models...
As for what they did to the steering wheel, I have no comment. I can't tell any difference, couldn't hear the squeak they were hearing, so whatever I guess
