LED high beams upgrade

I know there are threads about LED high beams but i thought i would give people another option besides the IJDMtoy ones. The Hikari LED's on Amazon are amazing and are functional 100× better than the halogens. I didnt buy the resistor and i have no codes or flickering i recommend them to anyone looking get good quality LED's that are an improvement not only aesthetically but also improve functionality.

nice! i've been looking at switching my drl/hi beam to LEDs, but weren't sure which ones would take the lower drl voltages without flickering

They have 2 options for these i only got the 9600 Lumens cause they are cheaper but because i bought 2 sets one for my car and one for my wifes car and both are amazing im going with the 12000 Lumens for my fogs

i was JUST going to ask which version lol
No issues with clearance behind the headlight assembly?

For the bulbs no they are pretty compact but to install then i had to remove the coolant reservoir for the passenger side and battery for the driver side they pop im no problem i recommend doing the driver passenger side first so you can make sure you have the polarity right.

Nice! We will have to see how they hold up over time. Can you post a link to the ones you bought?

Hopefully they can withstand some abuse from being on all the time, I live in Canada so we can see how well they hold up in the winter. According to Hikari they withstood a 7 day test being on constantly, and can withstand cold temps. Anyone looking to buy them and dont want to risk them burning out you can pull your DRL fuse so they only turn on with high beams. I want to see how good they are so im leaving the DRL fuse.

I'm in Toronto as well. For the Hi beams they should be ok, because they're high enough that water shouldn't affect the fan. But for fogs, mine didn't last a full year. Once winter hit, the added moisture killed the fans. I have dual colour led's for fogs, but may switch back to halogens...

These are somewhat water resistant so im hoping they will be fine. Im going to add switch backs too, and i bought a splitter that acts as a skid plate, so hopefully it will help keeping all the salt and water out.

I am in Toronto as well and I have been running PUTCO's (ribbon heat sinks) for DRL and FOGs and they have running running solid since 2017. Pictures are below....

I was going to get ribbon heat sinks but then i heard in winters they tend to rust good to know that some brands last maybe next time ill grab a set of those

Installed the fog lights today the pictures dont do it justice the lights are crazy bright It took around 5 mins per bulb and they were a direct fit no error codes well worth the money the fogs are the Hikari 12000 lumen H11 bulbs.

Diode dynamic switchbacks installed took about 5 mins to change i didnt remove the bumper. They match my LED's almost perfectly i didnt install resistors because i dont mind hyperblinking for all the bulbs (high, fogs, signals) it costed me $267.52CAD including paypal exchange rates and shipping it would have been less if i got the 9600 lumens bulbs for fogs but i wanted to see the difference between the two its not much so definately just get the 9600 lumen bulbs if you looking to change them out. Either way all were well worth the money considering i was going to get HID fogs installed for $300.

Are the LED DRLs on in your photo with the HID low beam? Hard to tell from the photos, but they look bright enough to blind people since they don't cutoff. I'll be excited if this is finally an LED that does DRLs right AND has high beam functionality. Unfortunately it's always been one or the other in the past.

DRL don't turn on with the low beams. But these do work with DRL and High beam, for the DRL ive never been flashed and they are bright. They do dim down for DRL and with the high beams it lights up everything so far they have held up great i did some headlight correction and they look even better now.

Looks really good! It's really tempting to pick some up. Has anyone been able to find around 4000-5000K LED high beams that are decent quality? While the 6000K looks good, I'm just worried that the blueish color will defeat the purpose of high beams and provide less useable light. I'm not sure if the stock low beam projectors are 4300K like most cars, but something around that same color would be perfect for me. The stock halogen high beams look like they're around 3000K or so, they are very yellow.

As far as DRL looks go, the 6000K look awesome!

The stock low beams are 4300k the blueish tint in the high beams doesnt really affect how well the high beams light up the road i drive a pitch black roads and they are great if you really want quality LED's get diode dynamics LED's thats where i ordered the switchbacks from while they are pricey they are well worth it they also have colour options

I also find on backroads the blueish tint of 6000k is make the road more visable vs the 4300k low beams which i find just blends into the road but i am comparing low beams to high beams also it isnt really that blue it looks more like a pure white when ur behind the wheel.

jefflikesbagels 06-05-2019 08:46 PM

I ended up buying the high beams, for $36 USD I'm very pleased. They didn't seem to fit as snug into the bulb socket, but it's still good enough and not a problem.

I don't use my high beams often, but the white DRL color makes the car look very classy!

Make sure they are installed properly, i find the housing for the TL's are a bit hard to tell if ur lined up properly. The tabs can get caught and seem to be installed properly. I used my phones camera to check the passenger side while installing to make sure the tabs lined up if its in properly it should be secure. For the driver side i removed the battery and stuck my head in space to make sure it was lined up. But if ur happy with it thats all that matters.

jefflikesbagels 06-05-2019 09:16 PM

Yeah it took me awhile to get the tabs lined up right, but I eventually got it. Now I just need to restore the headlight lenses, they look pretty disgusting!

Thanks for this post! I was looking everywhere for this information. Can I ask what you are using in terms of the turn signal bulbs? I want to switch my amber lights to white LED'd as well. Thanks again!

They are switchbacks from diode dynamics, the bulb number is 1157

The link i listed for the high beams are for a 9004 bulb the correct bulb numbers are:

DRL/High beam - 9005
Front Bumper Turn signals - 1157
Fog lights - H11

Finally installed the diode dynamics HID ow beams they match pretty good but the light output is less than OEM and the beam pattern is not as good i may upgrade to the osram CBI in the future overall they are good bulbs though.

So glad I found this thread. My driver side HID went out in less than a day (never seen that happen before!), so I figured I'd upgrade the DRL/highs while replacing the both HIDs. Couple of questions:

1. For the Diode Dynamics D2S HID replacements, what temperature did you end up installing?
2. What did you use to correct your headlight lenses to factory new?

Thanks,
Tony
