JLC CREE LED Reverse bulb

I just got these to test out for the TL reverse light as well but since it is compatible to the Scion xD reverse set up and a lot easier to take out the bulb than taking the panel on the TL. So I'm testing these JLC CREE LED. Very bright and directional. But these can get hot too. So these are specifically for reverse light ONLY. They do make CREE LEDs for the DRL and not that hot. So here are the pictures.

CREE LED with built in heat sink. But to be honest with you if you keep these on for a long period of time....like 1 - 2 minutes it gets pretty hot.

Comparison of CREE LED left and regular bulb right
These were taken around 7PM so still an amount of daytime light.

Here are the CREE installed onto my TL. Note that I matte tinted the tail lamp. So it is slightly dimmed but still bright.

just go to the website and type in CREE LED reverse light. They have 2 version 1 with error code and 1 without. I have the one without error code message.

I have these CREE style bulbs in my license plate lamps, and just the light they cast illuminates the backup camera substantially. Would love to see some backup camera shots.

I can't really tell if my was bright from the back up camera stand point since I had my taillamp tinted matte black but it is noticable from that of the regular halogen reverse light for sure.

what size cree do you have for your license plates.

kb1spec, reverse hids would be awsome and bright now that they made 15w and wont melt anything.

I didn't use CREE on the license plate section since CREE is too hot. I use the 12 LED panel dome LED set up.

I am waiting for the new low heat CREE LED in a few week and test them out.

Reversed 15W HID would be nice but a bit overkill. I've seen some online and those are crazy bright.

Do you have a link to the info on the new bulbs?

From what I've seen, the current version uses the old XR-C or more likely the XR-E emitter. With the limited heatsink, they could get much more light with less heat by using an XM-L and probably come in at the same price point. The XM-L is roughly a $5 LED when purchased in bulk vs $3 for the XR-C or XR-E.

They could then use a wider lens and make better use of the extra light by making the beam pattern more floody. That's the only thing I don't like about the current bulbs, besides the price. The narrow optics act too much like a spot light.

Look into here:
http://www.jlclightings.com/CREE-LED...show=10&page=2

I know they will come out a low heat CREE LED soon and will test them once it is out.

How and why did this thread die? It's the best analysis of these bulbs! I may have to get on it...I have LED ones but they look cool, they don't light much up.

Personal preference. Some like it for the look and some like it for funtionality. I just like it because I want it bright. There are a wide range of LEDs ranging from elef LED to CREE LED or Plasma LED.

It's good that my friend owns the shop so I can test them out and give you all reviews and feedbacks.
