JDM Yellow Film or JDM Yellow HID Foglight

Ok. Need some recommendation or advice. I had a set of Philips 3000K HID bulbs that was taken off from my RL. Now I just got a sheet of yellow film. Should I mask the yellow film on the foglight or go for the whole HID set up? I think adding yellow film on the foglight make it a bit tacky. But just need a 2nd opinion. Thanks!

make sure you get good film on your fogs as it does get hot and will melt the film..

i suggest for you to use lamin-x.. that is what i have, it stays clear all the time and its thick as 4 pieces of white paper stacked together.

dont go cheap and pay 6 bux for cheap film, spend 12 and get lamin-x.

Yes that is another reason what I was thinking too about protection of the lens. Good point on that. The yellow film that I got is similar to Lamin-x. We tested on a few car already with high output watt bulbs and so far no melting or discolor on the film. Whats good is there is 2 layer of backing. One for peeling to stick it out and another top layer to peel off once you applied everything on.

That's knew you would say that. It's gonna get some elbow grease on this one. Since my friend shop have a lift I can easily take apart the foglight...

Just tested 2 type of yellow film. Off brand china made and Oracal Yellow. The off brand china made film are thicker BUT stick somewhat well because our foglight len have some curavture. So I need to cut exactly as the lens. The Oracal yellow film is thinner and can be wrapped around the edge. I have not tested that film yet because I just go a sample from my friend. So far the off brand china made yellow film is holding up as far as the heat issue. So no melting or warping. I will try one side with the Oracal film tonight.

One thing is good about the off brand china film is that there is 2 layer of clear masking tape. 1 side is for the adhesive. So you peel that layer and stick it on. The other layer (top layer) acts as a protection where you squeegy off any bubbles on the surface. Once everything is good you just peel off the top layer off. Leaving the yellow film scratch free.

Ok just finished off applying the Oracal yellow film. Unfortunately didnt have any night shot but will come. At my conclusion, I noticed that the china brand yellow film have a slight hue of yellow/copper. I would say less copper-like color but noticably yellow. Oracal yellow film has a true yellow color. But if you squint your eyes a little you see a tiny bit of green BUT a true yellow out put. Only problem I have with the Oracal film is being too thin. I did not take the foglight grill cover since it was a pain in the ass. But on the Oracal film you can see some creases if you did not do it nicely. I was doing a quicky job last night so didn't look too nice but will reapply the film later on this week.
But since the film is too thin, I just need to see if they can hold up the heat. Will give you some update later this week.

i had oracal before on my RSX-S but it was too thin and ended up being burnt and embedded on to the glass of the fogs that i had on.

Next time, spend alittle more, buy lamin-x and take the fog apart out from the backside of the bumper. you do not need to take out the grill inserts from the front.

like i said before, lamin-x is as thick as 8 pieces of white paper.. super tough and resistant to heat. also stays glossy at all times

Its the first time I tried the Oracal and if you say it will melt or burnt onto the lens then I better take it off. The china made holds up pretty good. I had Lamin-x smoke tint for my signal len. Yes they are pretty thick and it is comparable to the china made. Actually quality is about the same. So I'll see how those will hold up.

Reason why I dont want to take my foglight apart is because I had the Slimline LED somewhat attach to the foglight and it was a bitch to take it apart unless I have some times and go to my friend shop since he have a lift.

oh that explains it hahaha, but yea, with fogs out, its a much cleaner job. and you avoid dust getting in to the areas of the film that is not pressed down.

let me know how that china brand goes and i might just buy some.

can you link me?

Sorry the daytime shot can't really justify the look of the yellow foglight. Will take some night shot tonight.

Here are the comparison of the film:
Left is the Oracal Yellow and Right is the China Brand
Images applied onto the foglight are at the same position. Left Oracal Right China Brand

Picture are white balanced and color corrected. You can slightly see a difference where the Oracal yellow film is somewhat yellow with a small hue of green to give it a true JDM look. The China brand, still yellow but a small hue of bronze/copper look. To me if I just take a glance at it, I would not know the difference. But if you would look into it for about 5-10 second you can see a small or slight difference. But applying the Oracal have some disadvantage since you can easily scratch the film but the china brand there is a top clear sheet to protect the film.

Lightbulb glass painting...

Hey guys great write up and pics looks great! I am in the process of doing the same yellow fog light set up to my ZDX. I already have the h11 3000k conversion installed the lights are much brighter than halogens but color is not where i want it be so I'm waiting for the film and a wild card, yellow glass paint! lets see how that goes.

KB1 are you still using that same set up and how did it hold up?

The yellow film are holding up pretty consider that I am still using the Oracal on one side and the china brand on the other side of the fog light. So far no warping or film being fogging up. But if I were you, just get the Oracal film.

Why not just go with the yellow HOEN edurance fog light bulbs?

I had HOEN and Noyka halogen bulbs and both and medicore light output; the Noyka had a better yellow output, the HOEN was more orange. I'm going to try some lamin-x film with my current halogens.

Hey Potz, real quick...you mentioned here that your Nokya bulbs were the 3000K versions...all I can seem to find are 2500K...what am I missing here? Should I be looking for a brand other than Nokya? Holler at me...

1. Super old thread, should have just PM'd him
2. 500Kelvin isn't going to be very noticeable
3. If he's talking Nokya Hyper Yellows they've only ever come in 2500K(AFAIK), PIAA makes a 3000K bulb however.
