How is your idle?

I purchased 2010 awd tech about 2 months ago and it never was smooth at idle. Always felt vibration in the steering wherl. I took it to two dealers and they said they did not feel it.

Somehow I can't believe this is how an Acura should idle. Previous Toyota solara with 100k was smooth as butter. So here is my question to you guys

How does it idle?
1. Can't even tell the engine is running
2. Just a little vibration in the steering wheel
3. Can feel the engine through steering wheel and seat

Front inside the car I can't tell the engine is on. I also can't feel the engine or vibrations through the seat or steering wheel.

Thanks guys. This confirms something is not right with mine and of course dealer techs can't find anything wrong with it.

Mine is brand new but yeah you can't really feel any vibrations when it's idling. I do notice that the startup gives the car a good shake though, very different than the Toyota Avalon I had which just whirred when it started. This car also makes strange noises sometimes when it idles, hard to explain but I just ignore them.

So your idle (RPM) is fine?
Take a look at your motor mounts. The rubber might be cracked or worn out. That will usually cause more than usual vibrations in the cabin.
Also how many miles? Might be time to adjust valve timing.

There is always a little vibration on every car. Some smoother than others.

I have a 2012 and I didn't think I could feel any vibration but yesterday when I started the car and actually felt for it I can feel the idle through the steering wheel a bit. Nothing I'd ever consider an issue though since once the car warms up and the idle drops I can't feel it anymore.

Interesting. FWIW, my 2010 TL is a base model fwd which I bought used and it has 40k miles on it now. Sitting at a stop I cannot tell if the engine is running unless I look at the tach. Extremely quiet and smooth.
Does your car have any mods or is still stock?

F*CK. Marco, I just looked at your avatar and spit a mouthful of whiskey all over my laptop!

My idle after 8K miles is alright: slight vibration under the seat, no vibration steering wheel or anywhere in the cabin. The fan is loud and is turned on pretty often though.

No mods of any kind. On top of that I'm having horrible time with the dealership, I mean it's almost time for acura relations to.step in. Got the car back on Saturday where they were suppose to fix other noises but today it is worse than it was before I droppped it off. They had it for a week. Just a nightmare.

I noticed this morning with everything turned of that my idle sends a very light vibration through the steering wheel and that I can hear my engine very mildly.

Mine is quite at idle - I don't feel any vibration through the steering wheel.

It might be more noticeable if you have after market exhaust - vs. stock.

Heart TLs, our cars is similarly modded and i have a slight vibration in the steering wheel during idle and during very slow acceleration,i feel that it has to do with the aftermarket j pipe.
The RV 6 j pipe has a small piece of stainless steel welded as a support for the two pipes. I have to check mine and see if that support is broken, that is known to cause some vibration since the pipes loses some stability.

OP,on most cars a very slight vibration is felt through the steering wheel or gearshift during idle.If you find it bothersome you should take it in and have it checked. This vibration can be more noticeable with the A/C or the rear defroster on.

Sorry,i just read that you took it in and they are giving you a hard time.

That sounds terrible, surely they shouldn't give you any hassle now to fix it.It is unfortunate that it had to get to this extent to get their attention.

Good luck and please keep us posted.

Sounds like there is some type of exhaust leak, possibly from the manifold. Whatever it is, that is not a normal TL sound. My engine sounds NOTHING like that. Do, keep us informed.

Wow! Was that clip just the noise from your car OP?
You have a fairly noisy valvetrain (the clickety clack noise) - valves need adjustment, which is sort of normal, but it also sounds like an exhaust leak which is totally not normal.

Sounds like you need a valve adjustment. If you Acura/Honda motor sounds like a diesel engine then you need a valve adjustment.
I would also check header and exhaust gaskets, etc for a leak.

yea, I never thought engine would have to be replaced in a 3 year old vehicle, specially in a reliable brand like acura/Honda. This makes me think that the previous owner didn't take care of this car at all. Not a good feeling.

just a little update. The engine was replaced and everything was taken care of, but the rough idle is still there. By rough i mean slight shake and vibrations. they actually kept the car for about two more weeks to check everything out, but at the end i was told that it is how tl runs.

well for some reason i decided to take a look under the hood today, and found this (check pic) is that the motor mount??? i was told that all mounts were changed along with the engine.

Please let me know if that is one of the motor mounts, because it does not look like it was just changed.

thanks guys

Yep that's a motor mount, but defiantly not changed. Check to see if there is a leak in the vacuum lines.

Idle should be smooth. I have a 2013 awd and sometimes i can't even tell the car is on. On my 2001 tl I have 180k but no vibration at idle.

Thanks for the information. I will try to check the lines but I have no idea what look at or for, if I'm unsuccessful I'll take it to a shop and they should be able to tell me.

Thanks again.
