Is there any legal issues with the HID fog lights? Will they blind on-coming traffic? I tried the easy route with bright halogens (Phillips Crystal Vision Ultra) but there is barley a difference between them and stock. My other options are LEDs which I listed below. Thank you

I have yet to be flashed with them. Because they are so low to the ground they don't seem to cause any blinding issues. Those LEDs will produce less light than a Halogen. So if you want more light you either need to stay with Halogen lights or get HID's.

Fogs are intended to light up the road surface. They point down so they will not shine in the eyes of oncoming traffic.

I don't think you'll even get as bright as the halogens with the LEDs, but I could be wrong.

Would being too bright affect their usefulness in the fog?

Shouldn't because their purpose is to illuminate the roadway.

Thank you. I think I will go with a 5k to match the headlights. Is there a benefit with the 6k or is it just a color difference?

OP would the 55W or the 75W be drastically brighter than the 35W slim? and if I were to go with either of the aforementioned options would i need to drop a relay into the wiring harness before I hit the connector? I'm assuming I could go with a relay on each side, hot into one input, switch leg into a second, line out to a 3rd and then the ground out to the 4th...

Any help is greatly appreciated.

35watt is the safest you want to go in the TL. 55watt or higher you take a chance on burning wires, melting the lenses, etc. No reason to go that high.

did you buy the entire kit from HID extra for the headlights as well? I'm assuming the bulbs are the same in the 4 kits and it is just the ballast that differs...but can I just buy the 6k bulbs to match the fogs and switchbacks?

I did the HID fogs and as long as i had the bottom shields down I installed some Bi-color 57 LED turn signals plus I put in some 128 -SMD LED DRLs. Here is a pic and thanks again "pimpin-tl".

Low beams Switchbacks and HID fogs

LED DRLs and new switchbacks

hey what code/bulb are the "switch backs" replacement.

3k fog lights

I had 5k bulbs initially, but they were too blue for my liking and really didn't help much in the fog. Now I have 3k installed and they are decent and help with visibility in inclement weather. Wanted to post pictures for reference and those who are interested in what they look like.

Finally installed mine yesterday. Thanks so much for the instructions. They were very detailed. The only struggle I had was in actually getting the bulb to install in the housing. It is a very tight fit.

Also, it seems the newer 4G TLs have different bolts and clips on the shields on the bottom. I didn't have as many as you show in your DIY.

Pics will come later as soon as I am able to mask out the license plate numbers. I got the 6K and they are a little more blue than I would have liked, but will swap those out at a later date.

Can anyone recommend a good brand of HIDs? I bought a set from HID extra and they were crap. First kit they sent me had a bad ballast, second kit had a bad bulb. So I just returned both and got a refund.

I never had any issues with all the HID Extra kits I have owned. Maybe it's the install ?

Pimpin - Just sharing my experience, but I think you've been one of the luckier ones or perhaps, I've been unlucky. I ordered a set through HID Extra but spent a ridiculous amount of time trying to get 2 good ballast working at the same time. I'll give them some credit though, and their customer service is great sending replacement parts quickly. After going through 3 bad ballasts and not happy with the actual color output, I through in the towel and ordered a set from The Retrofit Source (3five ballasts). I've been very happy with the 3five set and would recommend them. Pretty good warm up time and no flicker.

I ended up having to use a relay to get my passenger side fog lights working. I have a 2011 tl. Idk if its just my car. Did anyone else have this problem? I used the same hidextra kit

Like I mentioned I never had any issues. I wanted a slightly more blue tint on mine and is the reason I went with 6k. I matched the headlights with the fogs. If you want more white, get 5k.

It seems people are having issues with HIDExtra recently. I am unsure why, but I would recommend looking at the source above before ordering them and see if they are a more reliable source.

Not sure where CamPhil got his kit but I got mine from ebay here:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/171075014633?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_sacat%3D0%26_nkw%3D171075014633%26_rdc%3D1
and they came package the same as in his first picture. I think they are the same slim kit as:
http://www.hidextra.com/h11/

Can anyone confirm?

They look identical to these:

I have ddmtuning.com kit in my other car and have had good luck with it. I just ordered up the kit from them for the TL's fog lights and will report back on how they work!

I'm looking at the 35W fog lights kit at ddmtuning.com and can't decide if 6000k or 5000k should be chosen to match the stock low beam HID's. Any suggestions? Also, I don't think I need the relay or the adapter cables for the 2010 TL. Thanks in advance.

I went with the 6000K, I think they are going to match the best. From what I have read here and on DDM's site, you should not need the relay. I should be getting my kit in this week and will report back.

Stock low beams are 4300k so 5000k will be your best best. However, it won't match perfectly...you should expect more blue in your fogs.

I have 6k in both and my fogs still have more blue.

ddmtuning.com has 4500 & 5000K bulbs for the 35w Slim HID Kit -

I am assuming the 4500 will be closer to match the factory HID's right?

The color will never truly match because of the different type of housings. The stock headlights are projector housings which actually produce a different color above the cutoff line than below the cutoff.

The fogs are halogen reflectors and will largely spill a mess of color everywhere.

My fogs just quit working. Both of them. Hard to believe it could be the fuses or the bulbs given both went out at the same time, but I will check.

I have the same set up as the OP. Any ideas what it could be?

Thanks for posting these directions. My lens casing cracked and I think I'll try it on my own. The dealer quoted $360. Can I find the pictures somewhere else? Some of the links are broken and I don't feel comfortable attempting without those pics showing. Thanks for your help!
