Little question: Anyone did this in Canada, particularly Quebec? I would like to get the yellow/amber reflectors removed but according to the SAAQ brochure of modified vehicules, it seems we need to have a side, yellow/amber relector on each side...that sucks pretty bad imho...

Nice try! (that's a compliment btw) Yeah, all cars in QUebec must have amber reflectors near the front. Uhhhhhuuuuuuh....that means no cleared headlights for me!

I have done at least 4 sets of headlights for Canadian members. Even in US DOT requires cars to have amber diffusers in the headlights. IMO and in my experience a cop has to be really anal or having a bad day to give you any trouble for that, they WILL give you trouble if you have white parking lights. Get the diffusers removed and have the clear parking bulbs in the headlights replaced by amber bulbs, thats what most people do after they get their modded headlights.

Better yet - throw in some orange LED's and call it a day.

many european cars don't have diffusers, but just the amber lights for side markers, look at some BMW's, like PETEC said, put some amber LED's in, that's what i did, love the look

How long do you have to bake the headlights and at what temperature to get them to open up?

Could somebody give a quick rundown if you want to do a DIY on your own headlights?

Hey PreDash,

I actually had Blackura help me with my headlights. I just posted pictures up, but here's the quick run down:

1.) Remove the 3 screws that secure the headlight casing. Two of them are screwed into the cover, while 1 is screwed through the actual housing.

2.) 210 degrees in the oven for 20 mins no preheat. But when I did this, the headlights still weren't heated up enough to get the job done, so I did 225 for 20 mins no preheat. Really depend on the oven I think. I read up other forums during this process and some even did 250 for 15 mins. So your disgression I suppose.

3.) Start prying from the center as you move outwards with some elbow grease. I'm pretty skinny/weak so it took me a while. Starting from the center helps for you not to bend the headlight since it's an angled one. But honestly, if you take your time you can do the edge just because the edges come out easier.

4.) Once your done, put the 3 screws back in, but only go like a thread in. Pop them back in with the same settings.

5.) Once they're done, you can pop the hooks back on that surround the casing. You should probably put the screws in first to help with the hook alignment.

Hope that helps, and whomever feel free to chime in. I've only done this once haha.

Thank you very much for that write up. I think you missed a step where you put some kind of silicon adhesive to "seal" the headlights when you are putting them back together?

Well I had enough silicon on the edges for it to seal, but Blackura recommends the Permatex Ultra High Heat Black silicone from Pepboys or any other auto parts store. Just apply it to the edges right before you put the screws back in.

Does anyone know if they do any custom lighting? such as LED's? Looking to get something done.

If you have no luck, hit up 180Custom, they mostly specialize in Infiniti's, but they do work on all other headlights as well. 347 821 6176, you can probably find some pics by googling their name.

I'm really good with LEDs and I'm not quite 180Custom in terms of experience but I'm trying to do some more actually. Send me a PM and we'll see what we can work out in terms of special lighting solutions. Check the thread of what I did to my head lights in the Photography section. As an idea, the lighting effects I'm trying to pull off are actually closer to CinCityDesigns.

I decided to do my headlights by myself with everyone's advice they posted in the past week. Keep in mind, I have no experience on how to do it, I am just doing what advice I received on this thread!

After I got the headlight out, I began to disassemble uneccessary parts in my apartment... here is the bottom plastic piece getting taken off...

Next came the scary part! I removed the halogen DRL light bulbs from the headlights, but I was unsure if I could leave the HID in the oven at 225 degrees for 20 minutes But I didn't see anyone on here mention to take it out, and I tried to until I realized it was next to impossible to do, so I left it in. I was so scared it would break the HID assembly being in the oven like that, but long story short, they work just fine after that... Oh and by the way, my oven was JUST big enough to place one headlight in at a time.

Now here I am prying apart the headlight. I knew to start from the center and work outwards, but do the center on the top and the bottom of the headlight (oh, and don't forget to remove the three screws holding it all together first).

You can see the headlight adhesive from the factory literally has the consistency of chewing gum when heated to 225 degrees.

remove the HID ring bracket from the silver piece.

Remove the three screws holding in the HID glass lense...

Here is a quick comparison of the stock cloudy lense (left) to the TSX-R lense (right). The stock one is really only cloudy on the edges, and it is a blue cloudiness that isn't too apparent. More on this later...

I used Dupli-Color flat black spray paint. No prep work either. I painted behind the amber sidemarkers for that "tinted" look.

Now reassembly...

Then I put the headlights back into the oven (225 degrees for 5 minutes) when I was reassembling to soften the stock grey adhesive again. Also, have a tube of this handy to fill in any small gaps if you have any (I did).

Here is the final product!

Thanks man. I had wanted you to do it while my car was at Billy Boat Exhaust for a month, but it fell through. Then I ran out of money and decided I should do them myself.

I questioned the value of TSX-R lenses when i viewed stock and those side by side, but last night I was driving for the first time when it was completely dark and I was extremely happy with the improved light output and I was also very surprised that I could see a clear-cut light cutoff going down the road! Whenever I hit a bump, I could see the light cutoff moving up and down on the objects in the distance, so it was very impressive (yes, the headlights are aimed correctly).

I think I started at 630pm and finished at 1030pm, so 4 hours in total. It might take you less because I did the first headlight from start to finish just in case i messed something up so much, I could drive around with at least one working headlight. You can save time by doing one headlight and take it apart while baking the other one.

For Trade: 4G Blacked out headlights

I did these for a 4G owner but the deal fell through.

Details

4G TL headlights
Blacked out V2
Amber diffusers removed
DRL area partially painted to give smoked out look

What I am looking for
Willing to trade these for a mint pair of 4G TL headlights + $100

I'd need a $500 deposit before shipping these lights out to the interested party, upon receiving the lights you'd install them and ship the OEM ones back to me. Once I get the old OEM/Non-modified lights back from you I'd issue a partial refund through paypal. Partial refund = $500 (deposit) - $100 and shipping charges.

I know, I have had a few people ask me to do that but honestly I seal my lights in a way that they are never to be opened again. Not unless I REALLY REALLY have to as reworking on a set that I have done work on once is twice as much work.

I am sure someone will jump on this deal sooner or later, as soon as someone does I'll be getting in touch with you and others that are waiting on the trade in option.

GunnerX, the TSX-R lenses are $40 shipped. PM me for details.

for you DIYers, be very careful when putting in your headlights in the oven and make sure that it does have good clearance. I say this because, when I did this, my passenger side headlight moved when things started to flex in the oven and a small portion of the amber lens area melted when it rested on the oven wall. i will post pix, when i take the pix...but heads up.
