Finally got around to doing this fog light mod. I wanted my fogs to come on with the parking lights. The service manual did not give me enough information for me to mod the lights with the existing system, like I did my TSX. I just decided to rewire the whole thing from scratch. I reused the honda accord switch that I installed in my TSX. The switch looks factory and illuminates with the dash lights. I installed my own relay that is controlled by the parking lamps and my switch. You cannot find the H11 connectors for the fogs locally, so I have them on order and that will complete my job. To go back to stock I will just need to reconnect the original connectors back to the fog lamps. I will post pictures with the fogs on with parking once I install my new connectors. I will say, not a job for the novice, but its not hard to do. I did have to drill a whole through the fire wall to get my wires inside the car. The metal is very thin near the steering column.

I have been scared too, thats why I just decided to just rewire from scratch. Lots of ECU's in this car. I was hoping I could just put a jumper somewhere for an easy mod, but the service manual does not give me enough information to make an informed decision. I took took a chance getting the light to illuminate with the dashlight. Even that is connected to an ECU.

Do you have any idea how to make the fog lights come on as DTRL instead of the high beams on a reduced power setting?

 

Just pull out the DRL fuse and turn on the Fogs.

I don't think you understand what I am trying to do. I would like to turn the current DTRL (High Beams), to the Fog Lights a la MDX.

 

you would need to take the fuse of for the DRL, and then rewire the fogs as I did but connect the rely switch to a ignition wire. That would let turn the fogs on as soon as you start the car.

 

looks like it should have from the factory. how about a rough-drawing/schematic of the wiring job you created.

You will need to buy H11 connectors and disconnect the originals. I connected the the relay to the parking lamps so if I leave the fogs on they will cut of with the parking lamps. You can wire your switch to any hot for on anytime fogs, or use them as DRL. The way I have my fogs connected I can leave the switch on the the fogs will come on when I turn the parking lamps on.

one of my HID bulbs burned out in my fogs, and i have been mulling around the notion of doing this from scratch too....

just an FYI, having a PnP HID fog light kit on this car, really puts a drain on the electrical system... (i currently have no relays, yes i know, stupid)

but it puts on such a drain, that i literally have to rev my engine, before i ignited my headlights & hid fogs.. otherwise, one of the 4 HID bulbs would not ignite

of course, this could be eliminated by installing a relay, or ditching the crap OEM battery... but i've been pretty lazy lately


did you make the relay yourself or buy it online?

Disconnect the factory Fog connectors and buy new ones (H11.) This way you can go to back to stock if need be. The hardest part of doing this is getting the 2 switch wires in the car.

 

The relay is just a 12volt automotive one that you can get at any auto parts store or radio shack.

 

can anyone make a step by step on how to do this? very noob when it comes to wiring.. need actual pictures.. lol

also are you throwing off codes for the fog light?

 

As potmilkz asks, when you disconnect the factory wiring to the fog lamps, does it throw any codes? For all I know, our fancy TLs have a lamp monitoring system that would think the fogs are burnt out.

Also, what model year is the Honda Accord fog light switch? Or part number?

 

No codes will be thrown. Unpluging the fogs would be the same if the bulbs blew. We get no codes for blown bulbs.

Sure. One fuse in the line going to the lights and one from the battery to The relay. If you want to be anal about it, add a inline fuse in all hot wires.

Yes it will. Basically you are wiring the fogs from scratch. You will not be using any of the cars electrical connection. This is the ONLY safe way to to have independent fogs. The MCU circuit in the shop manual does not give enough information to work with the TL wiring. 12 volts comes straight from the MCU to turn our fogs on. If you were to short the MCU you talking $$$$$$$$$. ON my 2006 TSX I only had to cut one wire on the relay and take it to ground.

 

What switch did you use? The 3G guys use 08V31-SDN-1M035 from the '05 Accord fog light kit.

 

Maybe you can help me with this? Do you have part# for switch.

dwest1023, the fog light switch you used... what's the part number or what year Accord is it from?

Also, the backlight looks yellow compared to the stock VSA switch backlight. Is that how it looks? I'm sure you could change out the switch bulb to get a better match.

 

The backlight is the same as the TL. Its white. I do not remember the model number for the switch. I have to search for it on this forum. I got the stock number from someone here. I also bought the wire harness for the switch as well. I think the stock number that was listed above will work too. The switch will fit the TL blank on the dash. I will see if I can find the part number I used.

 

i just buy a switch online, a off/on one and drill a hole on on the supplied sockets that come off when you pop off the extras near the vsa.. spending 50+ bucks on a switch is rediculous.. but if you got the money, i say do it to be clean.. otherwise a generic off/on switch works as well.

 

OEM Accord switch is only $15 online here. Of course, here in Canada, yeah it's gonna be like $30.

Glad someone found the oem honda switch. Ive had mine since my 2006 TSX. If you guys need help with wiring I'm here to help. I've done this mod with all three of my cars, though my miata was much easier, as it only involved cutting a wire. Then again its got a lot of old school wiring unlike the TL. Really an easy mod once you get into it.

 

How do you physically wire up the Honda fog light switch?

I assume if I buy one that it will have contacts poking out the back of it designed to mate with a factory harness connector that won't come with it.

 

The mystery of exactly what switch to use remains. I've seen two parts numbers out there:
[1] 08V31-SDN-1M035
[2] 08V31-SDA-1M035

I believe there's a color difference between the two but it's impossible to figure out which is which. Both switches can be searched and found to be available for '03-'07 Accords.

I really need a black one to match my 4G TL! Help!

 

I've never seen a none black honda dash switch. I thing they are all black.

You would do me a great service if you could find the exact switch part number you originally ordered. If your switch is nice and black and matches properly, that would save a lot of hassle. I've read about people who have painted their grey switch to match better and I'd like to avoid doing that.

 

@bartmaneh Why haven't you jus call the stealership (dealership) car service department & ask them for the model number of the black switch you want,... I mean you have obiously the parts number, just ask them,... It ain't that hard,...
