Would anyone have part numbers for the full set of engine bay covers (yes the cosmetic ones on top)? And any pointers to where they could be purchased. My new to me TL has these missing.

Part numbers are there. You could purchase them there, or maybe try eBay or salvage yards locally. Or hit up the marketplace and see if anybody doesn't want theirs for some reason. (Presumably weight savings?)

Darn. I took mine off right after buying the car a couple years ago. I would have been happy to give them to you but I threw them out when I was cleaning the garage a few months back. They're pointless really. Purely cosmetic. They trap heat and restrict airflow in the engine bay.

I appreciate the thought! You are right...they are cosmetic but I am a little OCD about not having stock everything in the engine compartment. ...Maybe with time I will just learn to accept it as is.

I suppose it depends on how long you plan on owning the car too. I'm planning on driving this thing until repairs are economically unfeasible. Essentially until the cost to repair something is more than the cost of the car. If I were planning on selling it in a few years, when it was still worth something, I'd want to return everything to stock. Since I have no intention of doing that, I haven't bothered keeping many of the stock parts. I have kept quite a few but anything valuable or bulky has either been sold or scrapped.

The plastic cover that fits at the front edge of the engine compartment also has a fairly serious rubber seal on it.
If the cover is not in place, there will be a big gap between the hood and the grill area - no?

That is true. I didn't discover that until just recently. I noticed it seemed to be a big body panel gap, until I looked at another TL and saw they had the same gap but the rubber seal made it look a bit better.

Still, purely cosmetic if that. It's still black, which makes it look like a body gap. And other than aerodynamics and sound, I'm not sure what the purpose would be. Even then, it's at such an angle that the change in aerodynamics and air sound has got to be pretty minimal. I'll trade better air flow through that gap into the engine bay for a bit more sound anyways, even though I've never been able to notice it

Also, doesn't the cover (at least the first one) Have a channel for the air to be guided from the grill into the airbox/intake?

I believe so. I also removed that feature. I removed portions of the intake, leaving the lower intake tube drawing air from the front wheel well. I noticed a drop of about 5-10F with that "mod" per my intake air temp monitoring. But it increases the risk of hydrolock due to the air being drawn from relatively low to the ground. So it's not a mod I would necessarily recommend to everyone.
