Decided to pull the trigger on a 4-wheel 4 piston Rotora Big Brake Kit

After some extensive research online and through Acurazine, and evaluating big brake kits from Stoptech, Brembo, AP Racing, and Rotora....I've decided to go with a 4 wheel Rotora kit. Going with the 4 piston 355 fronts and 4 piston 350 rears, slotted discs and red calipers. Turns out, Rotora's rear big brake kit maintains the stock parking brake linkage for our TLs, which is a big plus as well. I've had a 4 wheel AP Racing big brake kit on a previous car, and while they are incredible brakes especially for track days, they do not maintain the stock parking brake. I have no intentions of taking my car to a track day, although it's not completely out of the question. I just love the look and our TLs are just too heavy for the stock brakes. Another big plus here, Rotora just happened to be running a spring special, so I got in at a very reasonable price. Just ordered, so I expect to have it all installed in a few weeks. Will share pics throughout the process.

Sharing some pics from Rotora, the white TL pictured is not mine, but mine will look just like that.

Send us pictures when done. I am curious if you are using 18's/19's sized rims....

For sure. I'll post follow up pics. I forgot to mention another plus to this particular kit, it clears the stock 18s. I run 19s during the summer and my stock 18s are my winter wheels, so ensuring that the big brake kit cleared the 18s was another factor. Turns out the 6 Piston 355 front kit also clears the 18s. Here's a pic that Rotora sent of the 6 piston 355 behind the stock 18s.

I did a track event last year with a friend, and he ended up bringing his 2013 Acura TL 6MT out

I remember him coming into the pit after a 20 minute run and his front rotors/calipers were literally smoking. Those oem brakes are not made for any kind of above average use... this rotora kit would have been a blessing for him!

Any chance you can give us a ballpark figure of how much this set up cost?

They're the same brakes as on the Honda Ridgeline. Not sure why you think they've been under-engineered.

Sometimes we have to tell ourselves crazy things to justify our purchases.

Sorry guys, but the factory brakes can't handle any sort of real running around. They might be fine for day to day driving, but don't kid yourself thinking they can handle any sort of real abuse. You'll have brake fade in no time. They're terrible at dissipating heat, even with the brake ducts directing air at them.

Facts !!
Two hard stops from 130 km to 0 when tuning was all it took for the brakes to really fade. On the third stop, it was almost like I had no brakes and that is scary shit !! However, for everyday driving which is the majority of time the factory brakes will be sufficient. By the time I was done tuning the Factory brakes were toast.

This was not the reason that I purchased the BBK, hell, I just like the looks so no justification needed beside I will be keeping the TL and at 34K Kms , it will be a long time.

Hi dopeboy1

I got in when they were having a 40% off spring sale. The total retail cost was $2,595 for the front 4 piston 355 and $2,595 for the rear 4 piston 350. I paid $3,272 including shipping for the entire kit. Smoking deal. You may want to hit up Rotora, ask for Loren and see if you can still get in on the spring sale. I think he mentioned at one point that it was going until the end of May.

Dang that is a hell of a deal. If I were american I would seriously consider it. But I know that the end price in Canadian would be substantially more.

I'm not saying this isn't true, and I'm not criticizing OP's purchase. My question was about OP's position that the brakes are under-engineered, and using 2 or more stops from 130 to 0 isn't, in my view, evidence. When does a person have a reasonable likelihood, in anything even close to "normal" driving, of performing two or more 130-0 stops? One stop...maybe. Deer on the highway, and you happen to be speeding (as we all do). But if you then encounter another deer just down the road, you've got bigger problems than brake fade; you've been targeted, and the deer are coming for you.

If, on the other hand, you're going to the track, then yes, you might need to upgrade the brakes...and a whole lot more. But honestly, this car wasn't designed for the track.

Going out of one's way to induce brake fade, and then complaining that the brakes fade, is a little disingenuous, no? I could just as easily push my car off a cliff, and complain that the suspension is "insufficient for the weight of the car".

He said he did it for looks.

if I did it, it would be for performance. Because yeah, I would track my car.

Either way, the stock brakes fail in both categories.

LOL and I wasn't commenting on what you said, mostly I was agreeing with TacoBello about brake fade. Anyways, the car was being Tuned on a private road away from Public traffic and as mentioned I got it more for the aesthetics, so performance benefits aside.
If you have gone through my build thread you will see that a lot of money and time was spent on the car...... waste for many but smiles by miles for me.

Oh yes, one can go ahead and push their car off a Cliff, I wouldn't blame the suspension though just stupidity , peace out fellow Aziner.

I think were all pretty much agreeing with each other here. Just the one thing that sockpuppet did point out is that the op said the TL is 'too heavy' for the stock brakes. Which is interesting since the ridgeline has the same brakes and it weighs a lot more. Also interesting because I have a ridgeline and it stops just fine.

google tells me;
Ridgeline: 6,050 lb
TL: 3750-4000 lb

That being said super nice brakes, very jealous.
