Converting my 2012 TL Tech to a SH-AWD

Is this possible? I know that my engine displacement is 3.5L, while the SH-AWD is 3.7L. Does that mean it is a completely different engine, or is the displacement a measure of the fuel delivery system or intake manifold system, which can be upgraded? Front wheel drive vs. rear wheel drive is another issue. Can I convert my TL Tech to SH-AWD or should I just sell my 2012 Tech and purchase a 2013 SH-AWD? I'd like to convert my Tech since it is a lease that I plan to purchase when the lease is up.

I would also like to say, in an effort to halt the smart-@sses in their tracks, I realize I should have just purchased the SH-AWD, but at the time I wanted to keep my monthly payment under a certain #. People change their minds, so please don't waste my time if you don't plan to stay on topic. Thanks.

I'm guessing it will be substantially more cost effective to trade for a SH-AWD than to do the conversion yourself.

if you planned to stay under a certain monthly number....
it will certainly exceed it with this "swap"

....YOU SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT/LEASED THE SH-AWD version in the first place.

Lol. If you have to ask its likely you won't have the technical prowess to make this a DIY. You would likely void your warranty and waste your time/money. Just trade it in.

Not many people know this, but the main difference between a non SH-AWD TL and an SH-AWD is just a fuse.

From the factory, they purposely remove the SH-AWD fuse from the standard models. If you can find the correct fuse, you can just plug it in (I think you can only get the fuse at the dealer) and fill your tank with higher octane fuel (to make your engine a 3.7L) and you should be all set.

I always ALWAYS have me eyes open for chances to profit from arbitrage. Last year I made the majority of my "bonus" money by getting HP Touchpads and reselling them $150 more on eBay. Also getting deals on black friday on harddrives and reselling for more due to flooding in Thailand!! But *this*, brother, *this*,... I could make a killing on if I can just get the capital to get ahold of a 4th gen non-AWD... holy. Thanks man, looking into it asap. Possibly I can do some credit card "balance transfer" deals to get down payment cash...

I'm not particularly mechanically inclined, how much do you think an Acura dealer would charge me to "remove the fuse" "under *wink* *wink* the table" ?

It would probably be cheaper to buy a crate LSX and RWD the TL.

I know trucks can be converted from 2WD to 4WD pretty simply but SH-AWD has too many sensors..

Did you install a fuse in your G35 and converted it into a G35x?

I would have to agree that it would probably be cheaper in long run to just trade for an SH-AWD car.

It involves plugging your man parts into the cigarette lighter (the one in the center console, not the side of the shifter), not for the faint of heart...

The chassis on the SH-AWD is different, even if that wasnt an issue, just getting someone with the proper know how would be a project in itself, to determine and list the hardware to be purchased (other than the mentioned fuse, the axles, computers, etc), and then the labor.
I wouldnt be surprised if this was a $10 to 15K dollar project. Do yourself a favor, forget this or trade in.
And BTW, yes the engine is different, hence it is a 3.7 and not a 3.5....
After writing this, you have got to be kidding, right!! And you fooled us all into taking the time to reply.

pretty much anything with engine, and transmission needs to be changed out.. let alone the electronics and some interior and frame work.

only thing your left that doesnt need to be changed is pretty much the exterior body parts and some interior parts.. everything else needs to be changed.

It's not the engine that's the issue it's the drive train and chassis.

Yes, just a fuse box and few little other things.......like a bigger engine, firmer suspensions, stiffer motor mounts, a central hypoid gear, a drive shaft, a center/rear differential with its ECU, the driving axles to the rear wheels, the SH-AWD ECU and sensors....few things here and there....

Before I forget, you also need to upgrade your Operating Software to manage the newly installed SHAWD hardware. This http://www.flowgo.com/funny/1164_stupid-test.html link[/URL] can help with that.

Had an amusing troll thread on another forum. Some European was asking for the part numbers he'd need from a TSX or American Accord to convert his Euro Accord to RWD.

Pointing out that neither of those cars were AWD did nothing to dissuade him.

I was told putting on a sticker will add 100hp, so I will spend $100 for 10 stickers and I will have 1000hp + whatever TL's 3.7L makes. The cheapest Bugatti killer ever.

OP, trade in yours for a SHAWD makes more sense, and of course, if money is not an issue, you can make anything happen when it comes to cars.

I am right here. I have been in Philadelphia on business. Man a couple of you guys are so cool because you knew the answer congrats. What do you own? A 1990 TL with getto rims and a Pioneer stereo? I have the last laugh because in all likelihood I can make you look like a complete idiot when asked about 99% of things in life that require intellect and not memory from reading a spec sheet on a car. I could have put in the time to read the same spec sheets that you read and seem to make you the genius you are but you did the work for me, thank you sucker! Now get back to work at best buy and trick out your 1990 TL.

I'm going to go out on a limb and assume whomever you're insulting probably drives a 2009+ TL since this forum is specific to that model. I'm also going to go out on a limb and assume you pretty much know nothing about cars.

As someone said before trade it in or live with it.
