I leave my headlights set to "auto" so I don't have to think about them.

When I turn off the car and get out, though, the headlights stay on until I close the driver's door.

Is there a way to disable this? I didn't see it as an option in the setup but may have missed it. I just don't want the battery drain, since it happens every time I park in my garage.

Use your MID to change the Lighting Setup. You can change your interior dimming light time as well as your headlight auto off time. I think the headlights have a "0 seconds" option. If not, there's definitely a 15, 30, and 60 sec.

There should be a setting in the MID screen. I always turn my to the off position when i get home.

Summer times may be ok. But cold temp. will significantly reduce the reserve capability of batteries.

Especially during this super-cold winter months, unnecessary current draw by the headlights on a weak battery, may be the last straw in stranding out the vehicle.

I actually stopped using the auto feature b/c I found they were cycling on and off too often. I was worried it would burn out the bulbs prematurely.

As others have said though OP, I'm pretty sure you can adjust the timing in the MID.

Well it isn't hard to turn them on and off lol. Takes a second.

I don't use them for the same reason as bronco.

After coming out of a car that had some battery issues, I just don't use the auto light feature either.

It currently IS set to Zero, which translates to zero seconds AFTER I close the driver's door... But the ten seconds or more of the door being open every time I stop are the issue. Acura's/Honda's have crappy batteries to begin with, I live in a VERY hot climate so that cuts the battery rating nearly in half as well. Just wondering if there was a setting of "less than zero"...

Ok, now you're being paranoid. I live in SoCal where it's pretty warm year round, my headlights stay on 30 seconds after I close my door, and I've had the same battery since Day 1.

Close your door faster or switch off the "auto".

Look, it's not a catastrophe, I never made it out to be.

I live in Phoenix where it is 115 degrees for half the year and ALL of my previous Acura batteries quit at the 1/3 to 1/2 rating mark, mainly due to the heat. Acura replaced them under warranty (thus far) but the inconvenience of not having a car for half a day while they send someone out to swap it out or jump it is a PITA. I am trying to elongate the life of the battery, and since I really don't need the lights to stay on drawing current from the battery while I stand in my garage, I was simply wondering if there was a way to disable the feature completely while retaining the "auto" feature. There is not. Thank you.

I live in Canada with -30 degree weather... My headlights are set to turn off after 10 seconds and I always leave it on auto. I don't really care if it goes on and off automatically. If the bulb burns out faster, it'll give me a reason to buy those Osram Xenarc 66240 bulbs that I've always dreamed of getting. My battery's been lasting fine, pretty sure I still have warranty on it. If it goes out, it'll give me another reason to an Interstate Deep Cycle battery. lol

I have my lights set to auto with a 15 sec delay, when I leave the car if I press the lock button on the key fob twice it will shut the lights.

For the heck of it try this with the door open and see if it works, I doubt it will work but give it a try.

FYI, the headlights will turn off automatically even in the ON position. This is why I don't understand having the AUTO feature when it will turn off anyway after a period of time.

If the "0 second" off feature isn't working properly, take into the dealership and have them fix it. Is it still under warranty? If you dont wanna do that, then just switch it to the off position when you turn the car off. If you don't wanna do that, just leave things the way they are and wait the 0,10,15,30,60 seconds! My parents had this feature on their 1969 Cadillac Sedan Deville Convertible. It was simply another toy (in addition to all the other stupid features that were designed for the purpose of impressing one's neighbor).

Frankly I find all these additional features useless. I am capable of turning on my headlights, just the same as I turn on my coffee maker in the morning.
If I wanted someone to turn on my headlights for me, I'd hire a chauffeur. Likewise, if I wanted my coffee ready when I woke up in the morning, I'd hire a butler.

you sound like a poor candidate for the auto headlight feature if your concerns are over the amount of time it takes to get out of the car. Just turn them off and on.
