April sales numbers

I would love to see the good sales numbers of the TSX Sport Wagon encourage Acura and other premium brands to release more sport wagons in North America!!!
I agree that the numbers for the 2012 TL are not quite reflective of its actual popularity yet - let's wait for another month.

With the entire nuclear issue in Japan, is inventory down? I haven't been keeping up.

Even though the TL is built in North America, it still requires parts from Japan. I'm not sure how operational Honda is since the earthquake but the TL, along with all other Honda and Acura products may very well be affected by the earthquake and may see sales stay steady or drop even further. If not, I fully expect sales to increase within the next couple months (when the dealers begin to offer better deals and the halo of the MMC wears off).

Sales may take a drastic drop as I'm hearing little to no inventory coming out of Japan for another few months.
Since there is no new inventory, deals on existing cars may dry up as well.

even TL is build in US, but at least 30% of the parts are manufactures from Japan.... who knows how long it'll take for them to get back to full production, i m still waiting for my TL to arrive.....

With the rise of gas prices I think TL sales will be lower in May or until gas prices start to go down. Many people know the TL reuires premium and are not going for it. We have a decent number of TL's here in teh chicagoland area but there are also 5+ acura dealers in the area.

I was expecting bigger numbers bc my local dealer is offering $5,000 off 2010 models & $4,000 off 2011 models. Altho they still have all 3 versions on the lot, they are down to only 7 left from over 30 last month. They still have the 1 2011 manual w/ tech package too - guess it is hard to sell those around here.

As we informed you on May 2, tomorrow you will receive your allocation of the June 2011 production from our North American facilities. Due to our parts supply situation, these vehicles have been pre-selected by trim and color.
Given the sales and inventory situation we have outlined previously, for future allocations we will continue to look at the allocation parameters to provide a fair and reasonable allocation for all dealers.
Please note, existing and future orders will need to be adjusted for exterior color changes due to supply of a paint pigment. We will inform you of the color changes separately.

Burning Brakes
My guess as to the reason -
1. Asking sticker on the new model and not lowering the price enough on the 2011 at many dealerships - some people are not comfortable with haggling.
2. Too little for too much - the 2012 is a huge improvement in appearance to some, it has been noted that some of the materials have gone down hill while the price has increased - now people will start to compare it more with other vehicles in the $40K plus price range. Not an apples to apples comparison but the higher price does encourage more shopping around for alternative vehicles.
3. Some people still feel that the refresh isn't enough. I'll probably wait for the new model ES350 which should be out soon. Different verhicles of course but there is not need to be a TL fanatic just because I like my current TL. If I'm not thrilled I can always waite a couple of years for the 5G TL.
4. Some of us don't feel like gas prices will be dropping that much but for the most part will start to climb significantly higher with each new peak. While the TL is by no means a gas guzzler, it also isn't quite as efficient as some might like. More engine options might be a better choice for enthusiast drivers and average drivers.

Even if parts production is moved to another country, i.e., China, or (God forbid) the USA , this is not something the manufacturers can flip a switch and accomplish overnight. There are no available/vacant factories in China to absorb the production shortfall, implying that new factories might have to be built. Again, (God forbid) anyone dare consider the thousands of factories sitting vacant (mostly crumbling hulks of their former self) in the USA.

The local dealers here had a huge inventory of 2010 and 2011 TLs all of last year and pretty aggressive deals and incentives. Perhaps the sales decline is because the incentives went down and the prices went up?
Hinshaw (just south of Seattle) claims to have 17 2012 TLs. Acura of Bellevue claims to have 13, two of them 2011. So it isn't due to lack of cars!

It is not so much how many new cars they have in stock now, but how many they are anticipating the next two to three months, which will be lower by perhaps up to 50% from what they originally ordered.

Because of the Japan situation, 2012 allocations have been cut almost in half and only limited color options are going to be available. Like I said, if you're in the market and you see something you like, don't procrastinate.

That's not entirely clear. Some of the TLs on the lot have been there a very long time. That may change with the restyle, but there are a lot of 2011s still and the sales numbers don't yet show a 2012 bump. (I would expect one, but it may take a while for the image to recover from the 2009-2011.)

Glad I'm not in the market right now. My dealer (metro St. Louis), which normally carries 50 to 70 TLs has only 7 2011s (only 1 AWD) and 25 2012s in stock. And evidently June/July are going to be lean delivery months.
I doubt they're letting many TLs go out the door at deep discounts.
