I've used a full synthetic 0w-40.
but ended up going back to a full synthetic 5w-30.. because of the HTHS rate.
but looking at the specs again, today...the 0w40 seemed to have improved

Use 0W-20 or 0W-30 and call it a day.

Why would you want to use 0W-50 or what is the benefit of using such a thick oil?

I used 0W-40 when my engine was burning oil and it helped reduce consumption. After I got the ring fixed, I switched back to 0W-30. Sometimes use 5W-30 in the summer.
