the rear bracing in the seatbacks are there for structural support.
if you cut the bracing, you risk structural integrity

Yes! The pass through is tiny, I really wish it was bigger. I had to transport my snowboard on the rear seats using things to pad the sharp edges from scratching my plastic or tearing my leather. I didn't risk driving to the mountain with it in my backseat, only a short distance to a friends house with a Jeep waiting there.

I've only ever used the pass-through for hockey sticks, so it;s never been a problem. Never considered using for skis (got a Honda Pilot for trips to the mountain). Most ski pass-throughs I've seen have a bag of some sort. You must have to really get the skis cleaned up before leaving the hill,

Buy a cheap cover for the seats. Like

I use it for everything best 20 dollar I have spent. Pets, boxes, tires and much more. Good protection for the rear seats for pennies.
