2014 Acura TL Tech - Should I buy for the long term?

Can I expect a long relationship or should I go with something else? I'm looking for something to last me a while. Inhave heard mixed reviews and problems and wanted to know if you had to do it again would you?

2013 Acura TL Advance(Elite) zero problems besides a ATF filter replacement. I replaced the fogs with LED kit and put 850cca battery in. I love the car.

2013 with Tech Package 53k miles problem free thus far. You’ll be fine if you choose the 2014. Car is as reliable as it gets. The 3.5 V6 is bullet proof.

2012 Tech Package, put 70K miles on it just in the last year and half. 140K on the odometer. I had a major problem unfortunately, where an oil control ring went bad on one of my pistons, resulting in a lot of oil consumption. I had to have a new engine swapped in. However, I'm convinced it was a total fluke. I don't know of anyone else on the board who's had that problem. I've owned two other vehicles with nearly identical engines (2006 TL, 2009 Pilot) and put over 200K miles on them both with no issues whatsoever. Other than that, I've had no other problems, minor or major.

The transmission has held up extremely well. I change the fluid every 15K miles and the filter every 30K miles because I want it to last well over 200K miles. I would recommend it as a long term reliable vehicle.

Purchased a 2014 TL Tech (FWD) new in April of 2014. Have 56,000 miles it now. Very happy with it....no issues or problems of any significance. Hope and expect to keep it for at least 5 more years. In my view, a used 2012-2014 TL is currently a great value..... a lot of car for the money.

The 3.5L in the FWD is very very reliable, if you've heard about oil consumption issues its probably a 3.7L.

Have a 2012 TL AWD Adv. got it with 34k miles (cert used) in 2015.

- my power steering module died @80k miles (paid $250 to replaced and Acura paid the rest)
- the previous owner didn't know how to drive so I had to straighten some bent rims (Adv. has 19in)
- just been changing oil, filters, fluids (tranny, rear diff), wipers, and recently spark plugs.

The car has 105k miles on it and has been running pretty good so far. I am pretty sure the serpentine belt and timing + water pump will be next. My last Honda (08 civic si) had 197k before I sold it to get the TL. I do hope it will last at least 200k before I sell it.

Purchased new in 2011 (Sh-Awd) , only 33K Kms at present but zero issues to date. Not even the famous oil burning issue.

If the car still has low miles then you will still have the warranties covered by Acura. I believe every car has their own issues... my reason for buying an Acura is cheaper parts and labor, decent price for a luxury sport 4 door, can work on myself if needed, and Acura seems to treat their customers pretty good.

With that said, I have had transmission problems here and there but Acura has covered me 95-100% - even with 98K miles on the car.

Try to see you you can get a service history because If the 4G you're considering was taken care of it will last a long time.. The 3.5 seems to be a little more trouble free than the 3.7, but even so the 3.7 is more reliable than most cars on the road..

Certainly! Look into the SH-AWD, I certainly regret not having it some days on my TL. With that said, it does consume more gas and a bit of oil with the 3.7's in the TL.

2012 FWD Advance with 167,000 miles. Aside from the normal services including timing belt, I did have to change the alternator about 15k miles ago. Also, the Acura OEM batteries usually only last me about 2 to 3 years tops.

I bought my 2013 Acura TL Advance in May 2013. It's coming up on 5 years old and I only have 51k miles. I've had all the maintenance done by Acura and it's been really dependable.
I do replace the battery every 2 years out of habit and I have the car cleaned at least once a month.
The only problem I've had is with the drivers seat. Since I'm 6' 1" and about 240 pounds, I put a lot of pressure on the seat getting in and out and it's starting to show.
I plan to keep the car for a few more years so I'll probably replace the entire seat soon.
Other than that, the car looks brand new and runs perfectly and I imagine it'll easily go another 5 years and 50K miles with no problems.

I have a ‘12 TL tech and love it. Definitely recommend for long time ownership. Could have gotten a new ILX for what I paid for my certified used TL, but the TL is just a better car all around. Loved my 04 so much that I knew I wanted another one.
