So the replacement inflator is no better than the original? WTF??? I wonder why the recall is VIN dependent though. Did some vehicles get different replacement inflators than others?

Driver Frontal Air Bag Inflator May ExplodeAn explosion of an inflator within the driver frontal air bag module may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver, front seat passenger or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.


The affected vehicles received a replacement driver air bag inflator as part of a previous Takata inflator recall remedy or a replacement driver air bag module containing the same inflator type as a service part. Due to a manufacturing error, in the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the driver frontal air bag, these inflators may explode.

Yep. I just the paperwork in the mail to call the dealer and have my driver airbag inflator replaced AGAIN... Oddly though, I thought they were going to replace the passenger airbag, but never got one on that one.

I am so incredibly confused. Is this a re-publish of the same as a reminder ? Or do I actually have to go in and get a SECOND airbag replacement ?

No, it is different. If you had the previous recall done with a Takata driver's airbag inflator (like for like replacement part), then this new recall is to replace it again with one from another supplier (not Takata).

Called My Acura Dealer and their response to my asking them about this: " I checked your VIN and you dont need any recall procedures done. WHO DO I BELIEVE? I dont want to die from Shards of metal exploding in my face.

There was a recall of replacement inflators (a few months ago, I think) that was VIN dependent. My car doesn't have one of those affected VINs, so presumably my car didn't get a defective replacement inflator. So are ALL replacement inflators now being recalled?
