Arrow 2012 Acura TL Sh-AWD Manual in BWP w/56,000 miles - $22,500 bottom line. Fair?

I am looking for a 2012+ 6MT SH-AWD and I came across one listed for sale in New York. They were asking $23,900 for it but I got them down to $22,500. It's a clean car with no history of accidents or damage, but this price just seems way too high. There are a lot of automatic options out there considerably cheaper too. The dealer claims that because of the limited number of 6MT TL's out there, KBB/Nada are not accurate to go off for what's a good price or not. I understand the laws of supply and demand, but this seems a little steep.

What do you guys think?

Thanks in advance!

Can't say for sure. My 2012 FWD was $18K with 58K miles but that kind of apples to oranges when comparing to a 6MT SH-AWD.

He might be right on the limited number argument. Often it's the other way around; manuals being cheaper than autos because there's less demand. However, I've found that these 4G TL's with the 6MT get sold pretty quickly. So it's a pretty strong possibility that they would demand a higher price.

And even without the 6MT, the SH-AWD runs an average of about $3K more here in Utah. Everyone thinks they need AWD here so they're more expensive. That's why I went FWD. Wasn't going to pay $3K more for the AWD.

If losiglow got his fwd w/ 58k on it for $18k then $22k for MT is good deal to me. (AWD plus MT premium would make up the $4k difference in pricing).
I just recently posted on other thread....the past yr or so i considered selling my 13’ MT, so weekly I would browse cargurus and simlar sites for 13-14’ MT across the country.
The prices varied from $19k to as high as $28k. Obviously i have no idea what they sold for (if they even did sell) but i can tell you that ALL but one sold pretty quickly. (Assumed the one that didnt sell had some issues..shady used car dealership). And not many had below 50k miles and these were 13-14. So a 12’ with 52k is decent milage.
Good luck.
IMHO make sure u get at least the AWD (not just for snow!!). ..bonus if u can find a MT. So much fun for the price.

A manual transmission is a must. I would be looking at a lot different cars if I didn't care about having a manual transmission.

As it stands right now, I have my options narrowed down to a 2015/2016 Audi S4 6MT or a 2012-2014 TL Sh-AWD 6MT. The downside with the Audi is that it's a compact sedan and I have a 100lb puppy to lug around. Additionally, the cost of ownership is higher.

Cost of ownership of the Audi is higher, but you're aware of the potential problems with the SH-AWD TL right? Oil consumption and propeller shaft?

I really wasn't. This would be an out of state purchase so that's kind of troubling. Is the propeller shaft issue easy to identify? I am assuming that the only way to diagnose whether it has an oil consumption issue or not is to own the car for awhile and see.

Correct about the oil consumption - have to own it a while to see. The propeller shaft apparently whistles like a tea kettle when the bearing is worn out.

Well this really depends if you can justify shelling out that much for the manual trans.

Last year, I got an automatic 2011 Acura TL SH-AWD Tech with 56,500 miles also out of New York for $16,000 flat after taxes and fees. So let that be a comparison to you. Keep an mind I considered this a "good" deal.

Also to comment on the 3.7 problems, oil consumption is a hit or miss. I didn't notice any oil consumption for the first half a year and then one day my dash gave me a low oil light. But I did an oil change recently and about 1,000 miles I haven't noticed any oil loss. Strange.

The propeller shaft is more of a nuisance than anything. You can run with it, it'll just whistle at certain speeds. But I haven't noticed anything wrong with mine so it's a roll the dice situation.

We've owned my wife's 2012 SH-AWD Tech since new in Oct 2012. So almost to 6 years old, and just turned over 50k miles. Wife uses it almost exclusively, and while not a hot rodder, also doesn't drive like a granny either :-) To date, there is virtually no oil consumption. I use 5W20 Synthetic oil with DIY changes (Mobil 1, Valvoline, Castrol depending on what's on sale) and OEM filter, with typically 6K intervals. There is a bit of usage near the end of the change interval, but never more than a 1/4 quart worst case. No issues with the prop shaft so far (knock on wood). Had the dealer do the fluid changes on the other pieces (rear diff, front xfer case, transmission). Had the TSB done on the gurgling ATF filter. We've noticed that once you get 20k miles on the ATF that the shifting gets a funny feel (lagging shifts, grabbing sometimes), and that the fluid change solves it. So it shows a sensitivity in our case to fluid aging.

The wife wants to keep this till it dies, and doesn't like the ride/feel of the TLX. Hopefully it continues to be as reliable as it's been for the first 6 years.

Honestly, I would be leery of buying a 6MT from any forum members.

Hey Justin...
what's with calling Emily a 100 pound puppy!!??! Fucked up, bro!

I'm assuming you're going Gerzy Andy baby bear rotrexy thingy and that's why you're coming back for more Acura 6mt?
Can't wait to see where you're headed with it...

I was so tempted by a Mayan Bronze, umber interior 6MT on acurazine a few months back...I think he wanted like $12,500...
I guess that was a better deal than I thought.

Take care, man...

$20k+ seems too much. I would keep looking.

If the car wasn't rusted out, I hope you bought it! What a cool car to have!
