2012 with 6-sp manual - What availability and Pricing can I expect?

My 1999 A6 Quattro is getting little bit too old and as a replacement I'm thinking about the 2012 TL with 6-speed manual. I must admit that the TL styling inside and out is not exactly to my liking, but I do like the fact that 6-sp manual is offered, has good quality/reliability and reasonable price.

Now, I tried to browse the local Acura inventory (Atlanta area) and nobody has TL with manual transmission in stock. How rare are these cars? How easy/hard is it locate one? I probably wouldn't mind waiting few months for one.

Are these cars rare because the demand is too large or because Acura doesn't make enough of them and it takes a while for one to show up at the dealer?

How does the fact that a car may have to be traded/swapped between dealers affect price and price negotiation?

How do dealers price these cars (with manual transmission). Is it considered so rare that full MSRP is expected or is price negotiation similar to regular SH-AWD model?

Thank you.

Rarest of the rare. I heard the numbers once, I can't remember how few Acura makes each year, but it's below 10%.

Depends on the dealer but they usually are harder to negotiate on because the dealers know if they have one, there are not many to compare to.

ive heard only 5% of all tl,s produced are 6mt. there not around, because dealers dont want them sitting on the lot.

very few buyers these days want the 6mt.dont ask me why,

i love my 6mt, and as far as i know, other owners would not

give up there 6mt for the auto. my dealer said acura only

produces the 6mt in " batches". meaning until they have a

list of buyers requesting it, they wait. he said could be 6

weeks, or 6 months. i even asked if they could get one from

another acura dealer if i found one? he said even if a dealer

had one, they would not give it up....because there just are

not any out there, if you want new. he said because of the

sunami, they want msrp? i think thats only on a 6mt tho.

hope you find one, the tl is unreal!

i purchased my 6mt in june 2011 (midst of that tsunami craze). MSRP was around 42.5 and i got it for $39.5. so they are just as negotiable (if not more). however in my case i found one on the lot so maybe thats why they were more negotiable vs having to find one for you?

I bought mine just about a month ago. My dealer had a silver one in stock, i didn't want silver. I insisted on white. They located one the next day form another dealer, and it was at their lot within a day after that. So they are rare, but they are out there. I signed my papers on a Thursday, and was in my new 6mt by Tuesday of the next week. Dealer also said that it wouldn't be hard to get one, because dealers like to get rid of them because nobody want's 6MT. So i think there is MORE negotiation room on the 6MT's.

I'm still waiting for mine. It's been 40 days! I have a 2010 so the wait isn't so bad.

Thanks for the response everyone. Looks like the situation is different for different dealers/locations. I guess I just need to contact the various local dealers and see what they have to say.

Why are you going from 2010 to 2012? Is there anything else beside the updated styling on the 6MT version?

There is still a new 2010 6 speed at the dealer near me so while rare, they are either being extremely firm on price or the demand just isn't there as Acura predicted.

I sat in this car when I purchased mine but couldn't justify buying a 2 year old car as new.

When I got mine back in July it was the only manual in New England (I called every dealer in a 200 mile radius) at the time, sticker was 43,800 I got them down around 41,500, but that also takes into account a pretty decent value on my trade as well, since you can almost never look at car transactions so one sided.

Granted, I test drove this car back in March when it came off the truck and put miles 21-42 on it, when I bought it in July it only had 95 miles on it.

The dealer must be crazy, still holding on a two years old "new" car.

It doesn't make sense. Normal dealerships will try to get rid of old inventory ASAP, because (1) they need lot space for new (current model year) inventory, and (2) they are losing bank interest every day for each unsold car sitting inside their dealerships.

Because my dealer is going to buy out of the remaining year of my lease. Basically it's only going to cost me $367 out of pocket to be in a brand new 2012 TL 6MT.

You can see how it's going to cost me so little here:

6MT 2012 TL's are extremely rare. I have 3 requests/order wants for them right now, but no one in PA, DE, MD, VA, NY, etc. have a single one in stock or in transit that isn't already sold. There are a handful more scheduled to be produced late December, and I am waiting to see if one can be secured. I took an order/deposit for another today, with the acceptance it may be 3-4 months.

If I had them, I could see every one in a day. They are scarce and will not go up in volume anytime soon, at least not this year. Low production/shipping overall for all TL models, and the 6MT is the rarest of the group.

You certainly may be in the know, but Cars.com shows a number of them in NY and NJ and the North East in general and they don't seem to be moving or sold. I know from the past the listing is reasonably accurate, not exact but new listings do come up. Then I don't know what percentage of dealers list on Cars.com but it is not 100%. The % manual number from other postings and just basic car search data indicates about 1/100. Then in good faith if you could sell so many additional manual cars then why is Acura ignorant as to not produce them. Acura sales are very poor especially when you understand the basic product is good. Further offering like the ZDX and TSX wagon have been a joke. I find Acura's marketing to be absurd. A V6 TSX 6MT should be a obvious. Even if your own sales estimate is off by a factor of 20x, that would still be provide significant sales numbers.

Then that dealer with a new 2 year old car WTF. I really hope they had some real issue like the dealer owner died and they got totally screwed up because otherwise the ignorance is epic.

I have to echo Shoot2thrill's comments in reply to Beach109. I've been on cars.com & autotrader.com and noticed the same thing. Beach, if you could sell so many 6MT's then why won't Acura give you the product you need to make the sale?

These vehicles simply are not produced in volume, period. As is often the case, just because something shows on Cars.com or Autotrader does not mean it is actually in inventory beyond the 1st time it hit the dealer web system, before being sold/removed.

Searching PA, NJ, DE, MD, VA, NY and MA as an example right now, there appears to be (3) in stock. These may already be sold and not fully punched yet. The next batch to be produced will be mid to late December, 12/18-12/22.

Simple supply and demand. Acura inventory since earlier this year is slim on nearly every model, due to parts and other constraints. Add in the limited production level of 6MT's, and rarity is simple.

Picked my 2012 6MT during the Acura Memorial Day sales event (0.9%) in San Antonio. I was searching online and hit on a 2012 6MT at an Austin dealer. I drove over to the San Antonio dealer and told them what I wanted. There were none in San Antonio and they weren't expecting delivery of any 6MT for a while. I told them about the one in Austin and it was trailered down the next day for me.

I just bought mine a month ago. I got Black on Black. I returned back to the dealership where i purchased my 06 TSX. They arent willing to deal too much because they know how rare these vehicles are. I ended up paying $42k out the door. And if you do Online quotes, a dealership wont honor it for this car due to the fact that it is rare, and they cant compare to a dealership that doesnt have one in stk. Word of wisdom, all i had were 2 trade ins, and once i brought the word $2k cash down, then their ears perked up and then they moved their price.

Just a point of fact a Black on Black 2012 with 9000 miles was recently up for sale and sold for less than 38400. So the trade in must have been 35 something and I had a friend buy a 2012 TL also but a TL-SHAWD base which is not all that common and it had to be trucked in for 35200 + 299 fee. Acura has these $250 coupons and I think a dealer can apply a number of them on the car. I saw two dealers know my friends price was real and they were still $1000 above so go figure. Cash is always king. It is nice to be able to walk away.
