2010 TL SH-AWD A-SPEC -Sport mode

Guys,

Can I use the S mode but not the peddle shifters? It changes automatically anyway.

I just don't want to ruin my engine.

thanks

it won't change automatically, it will eventually downshift by itself but you will hit redline...

why anyways?

Of course you can. I prefer using the paddle shifters (manual mode) since i can control at what rpm gear changes can be made.

I find in sport mode it stays in 3rd gear too long, expect gas consumption to go up.You can't damage your engine since the rev limiter will kick in and prevent over revving.

I use manual mode for most city driving and full auto on the highway.

It will upshift and downshift in sports mode, not in manual mode (downshift only).OP is talking about sports mode.

sport will continue to be automatic, until you use the paddle shifter, then it becomes manual.

if you want to stop being manual but still use S, just shift into D and then back into S

have a nice day

Sport mode on the 09-11's suck. As far as I can tell... all it is, is driving with only 3 gears. Unless I'm doing something wrong.

Thank you everyone for your input. I tested it yesterday and it's insane. I was driving last night and I loved it.

I assume Sport mode will consume more gas, right?

Lol, yes it will, mentioned that to you earlier. Did you try Sports mode ( auto shifting) or sports mode where you manually shifted with the paddles?

It's okay...sometime you have to sacrifice some money for fun

I just put to S mode and I didn't use the paddles.

True.

Be sure to try the manual mode sometime,i love it. Controlling the shift point manually and at just the right time is sweet.

Honestly - if you didn't drive with S mode yet then you don't know your car. The feeling is great!

I drive in S mode a lot... and also in S mode using paddles... it's fun but not as fun as a real manual.... nothing like a REAL high performance auto-manual either...

try driving a newer Porsche with the PDK tranny... WOW. it shifts INSTANTLY... literally.. you push the lever and BAM.. you are in the next gear. i got to drive a 2013 911 Carrera S with the PDK... amazing....

although if I was gonna buy a real sports car, even though the PDK type transmissions are actually faster than the manuals.. I think I'd stil prefer an acutal manual where I s hift myself..

i wanted a manual TL but was buying used and simply couldn't find one .... so settled for my TL SH-AWD with the auto... but as far as automatic cars go, it's still a lot of fun. SH-AWD sure is cool stuff!

Real manual cars are just fun to drive! I never drove a Porsche so I cannot comment.

When I was looking for my TL, I found one manual but high milage. plus in canada with the traffic that we have I am happy with auto.

So do you really feel a difference when you shift from D to S?

My father in law has a 2011 G37X and we drove his car with DS+ mode. Infiniti's S mode is not the same as TL SH-AWD S mode. Two different things. In TL, the S mode give you a special feel. In Infiniti there is practically no difference and even he admitted that. Did anyone try G37 and TL? in S mode?

Manual mode is the only mode I drive in after putting xlr8 catback, its nice, not as good as legit dual clutch trans, slips and slides and eventual goes into a gear. The gurgle and pop between gear changes with my current set up is amazing, will have to film sometime.

auto in S mode, will NOT shift out of 3rd.. you HAVE to use the paddles unless you really want to be redlining on the hwy all the way. THAT would more likely "ruin your engine" vs using the paddles.
