2009 Acura TL Release Dates

My sales rep who I've dealt with in Canada (Toronto) sent me an email today saying the release dates for the new Acura TL are as follows:

Regular TL Nov 1st

SH-AWD Dec 1st.

Then again, this is for Canada...sometimes the U.S get the cars in the showroom first

Also forgot to mention that sales rep stated that those are new release dates as they had it slated for earlier release than those mentioned above

Well seems like the sales guy don't know too much either. Considering I've been getting different answers also. So I wouldn't take their word with a grain of salt. I heard the 2009 TL's will only come in 1 style. There is no type-S version or AWD planned of release for 2009's, maybe the years after that.

I wouldn't be surprised if it does not come out with the SH-AWD because everyone thought the TSX would get it and it didn't.

If Acura gave the TL SH-AWD then no one would buy a RL.

:edit:

I also want to add if they do have a SH-AWD, I hope they offer it as an option or a different trim ala type-S that way I won't have to shell out the extra buck for a feature I don't need and consumes more fuel.

AWD should be an option like it is on the G35.

As good as SH-AWD is, 4 wheel drive still has adverse effect on gas mileage and should be invokable ONLY when needed.

Inside sources now state that the RL will change again NEXT year to a much larger body-style to compete with the Lexus LS and Mercedes S-Class series. Current RL buyers are probably gonna throw a fit.

Imo, they should have came out with a new car to compete with that class and keep the RL as an Infiniti M35 and Lexus GS competitor.

What's with this fascination for car companies to go bigger? Smaller is faster and more fuel efficient. I would have bought the TSX if it had the TL motor, I still think the current gen TL is too big.

My dealer said the 2009 TL won't include the SH-AWD... and that that model is planned for 2010

I hope he is wrong.
It looks strange. Why waiting one year?

jmkiang....I am 99.9999% sure that the TL will come out with the SH-AWD...in fact, there should be three series, two of which WILL be SH-AWD and one will not be. There is also no Type-S this year.

That would be odd since the spy shot of that blue TL had the SHAWD on it. You can clearly see the large rear diff protruding below the back bumper. WHy would they be testing that on the street now if it wasn't being released soon?

spickyMikey...Exactly!! There is no question there will be 2 trim of the TL that will be SH-AWD while one will be just front wheel drive.

I think the question for some would be...will Acura offer the SHAWD system with the 6MT or will the 6MT be only on the FWD model?

That would be a great idea on Acura's part, personally even though the SH-AWD will retain a better resale value, I'd rather have the cheaper monthly payments, insurance, and save on gas as well.

*edit*

And I'll be faster because of the weight savings from not having a heavy AWD system.

Eoanou....He doesn't need to have taken pictures. Dealership DO HAVE a pretty good information document with pictures of the new TL (the 09)...you just need to pry it out of them

A good friend of mine attended the dealer meeting in a work related fashion, nothing to do with Acura, he was working for the production company. He said at one point during load-in/rehearsals (setup) they asked everyone in the room to refrain from taking pictures and they rolled in the 09 TL and began "assembling" it. He said that during the entire meeting, no pictures were allowed of the 3 new models (I assume TL, TSX, and RL) not even attendees. Also he said he actually listened to the meeting for once and he was amazed at the lengths Acura is going to try and seperate and distinguish themselves from Honda. He spoke of the overhaul that is going to be required of dealerships as Acura transitions itself into real competion for the other luxury brands.
Just my .02 of what I heard.

'Bout time Acura caught up to what Toyota and Nissan have long since done with Lexus and Inifinti.

They will probably wait until 2010 or 2011 to release an S version with a manual.

If Acura doesn't offer a manual with SH AWD they will loose alot of customers like Lexus did with the IS 350. NO MANUAL. Friken stupid. IMO. IMO. AND a MILLION OTHERS.

Ni$h21....I agree that pictures would have been nice to post but dealership cannot release those pictures. Its for internal purposes and not obliged to share with the general public. That being said, if you have a solid and trustworthy relationship with with your general or sales manager, they MIGHT let you see this ppt presentation. For me, it was enough to seal the deal to get me the car I felt looked and suited me better. I am sure you guys will all see the new TL soon enough, its just cool to know in advance what it will look like and won't have any regrets with my purchase.

Sizewise, the TL competes with the ES350; the TSX with the ISxx0. The ES350 never offers a manual transmission, whereas the TSX always offers a manual transmission.
The IS350 doesn't sell as well because of it's overly inflated price over the IS250, which effectively prompt buyers to move over to the 3-series and the C-class.

So, it sounds like you have ALREADY placed an order for the car. If so, what kind of price did you get quoted and what dealership did you order it from? Did they allow you to order the AWD version? I am ready to do the same IF the next gen looks good enough AND comes with AWD day one. Otherwise, I am content with my paid off 2004.

Just a guess - I think he meant he bought the 09 TSX after he saw the pics of the TL. I doubt anyone would take orders for the TL when Acura hasn't let people see PR photos or specs.

So he was saying that he saw pictures of the new TSX before it was publicly available. That's quiet a bit different than seeing pics of a TL so posting in this thread mis-lead me. Yea, the moniker should have given it away but I guess I just wasn't thinking about his name when the subject was different. It's not unusual for a brand owner to have two cars of the same brand and since he was posting in a TL forum it appeared that he may have had insight. I guess not. Too bad.

ndabunka...outatime...Eouanou....Sorry for the confusions guys, thats correct, I was debating between an 09 TSX and an 09 TL and was going to wait until the TL came out to make a final decision. After talking with the sales manager and explaining my dilemma, he worked with me to ensure that I would make the RIGHT decision and worked with me to secure a deal. He allowed me to see some dealer information about the upcoming TL and that was enough for me to not wait any further for the TL and just put the order on a TSX instead. I am not saying the TL is horrendous, but it is not my cup of tea and feel that I'll get more satisfaction out of my TSX than I would have on the TL. I was really sitting on the fence with all the comments I heard about "HOW GORGEOUS" the TL was going to be and did not want to have buyers remorse. Now, the last thing I need to worry about is Acura coming out with a TSX turbo, if they come out with that this fall, I am going to be pi$$ed

I don't mind if it comes out in the fall of 2009 for a 2010 model as I never keep my cars very long anyway. I'll be doing a bit more probing before I sign of the dotted line later next month

What kind of dealer information?
Everything they had, or just what he wanted you to see?

Auto sales are slow these days and sales managers are under pressure to move cars out the door NOW no matter what.

DMZ....Dealers have a ppt presentation available for themselves and it contains some pretty detailed information and pictures but they won't share with the general public (unless you have a good relationship or rub them the right way *smile*). I agree with you that most dealers are somewhat worried as this year, most of their car lineup is going for an overhaul (TSX,TL and RL) and given that the new grill design is not very well recieved and the whole RL design was bashed quite severly, the TSX got initial bashing although people are coming around to it, I think they are concerned that they might have a slow year. Its unusual for a car company to change all their car design in the same year so its a pretty bold move that could have negative impact rather than doing it more on a gradual approach to allow people to warm up to the new direction the brand is going. I suspect that the fact that I got in there and told them I pretty much liked everything about the new TSX (except the grill) was enough to get them excited enough to not let me walk away and not put a name on one of them.

TSX09 - Thanks for the clarification. It does make this MUCH more clear. You didn't see any "brochures" on the new TL but were able to see a Power Point presentation of the new TL. Alrighty then, how close was the representation in the power point to the "mock ups" people are posting on here and other sites? Does the back really have the sharp "CTX-style" angle treatment (center). Do the rear lights look ANYTHING like the ones mocked into the photos? How about the snout? Does it look like the mock ups or is it something completely different (a little like the one in my avatar from a the concept Honda)?

This might start a new tag line... "This thread is worthless without a PPT"!

ndabunka....Well, the pics that I did didn't allow me to have a full view of the rear but it looks very close (for the portion I have seen) to that in the un-camoed shots. The front, I didn't car for it either. I found the headlights rather smallish for the front of the car. Its not an ugly car but compared to the beautiful current model, I think people (current TL owners) may take longer to warm up to this model as the change from the 08 to the 09 is more drastic than the TSX underwent. It will have the guillotine grill but it seems a smudge better integrated than that of the TSX...now I could be wrong as I didn't a good closeup of the grill but the slanted brick pattern that I dislike so much on the TSX is not on the TL which may explain why Iliked it better....but again, maybe upclose, the TL will not be as nice as I thought...

If you lease the car instead of buying it, that should allow you to switch to new models easily whenever there are new stuffs coming out.

Edward'TLS...that is EXACTLY what I do and for this EXACT same reason. I may do a 3 year lease instead of 4 this time around. I wasn't penalized much (in fact, virtually none) for breaking my lease 2 years into a 4 year lease by staying with the same dealer and brand....HOWEVER, when I tried cross brand shopping, OUCH. So rather than doing a 4 year lease to keep my payments down, I'd rather carry my next lease to its full term and allow me to shop for another brand IF (and I say IF) I do no longer love my TSX and decide that another brand is what I want....if not, I'll just a new Acura again....
