I couldn't agree more, the mesh grille is horrible in comparison to the RJ design and I never cared much for the stock one.
I might buy a new TL after seeing the RJ grille, makes it look completely different imho.

i think i would take the stock grille over the mesh grille... but overall, the new TL's front end makes it look like a trucks front end like the cadillacs and toyota tundra's front grille... and this car is suppose to look like luxary not a truck period

stock grille over any of those 2. Btw, some of you made very nice paint job to the front beak!

I like the TL as it is but I understand some ppl might dislike the front of the car so it's all fine. After all, what good is a 40k$+ car if you don't thoroughfully enjoy it?

My wife, who has never liked the TL... even when I had one... saw the pic on page one of the Ron Jon concept and said, "wow, maybe I'll look into getting a TL".

So to me, that's a damn good grille (and it does look hot). As always, great work Ron Jon...

i dont know i like it for some reason maybe if u paint around the mesh like the outside trim the color of the car or paint the mesh and leave the trim chrome i dont know i like both grills i think there sexy but id take the ron jon for the sporty racing aspect of it all

EG is selling another version with the mesh black, it looks better than the original, but still not good (IMO). Hopefully we get some progress pics from Ronjon of the new grill soon.

i think if your looking for more of a sporty design go for the Ron Jon, but if your looking for class/style get the Chrome Mesh Grill.

IMO the E&G grill is
you might as well chrome up the rest of the car like an 84 toyota.

still waiting for Ron Jon

I agree, the E&G grille is as ghetto as they come.
How could anyone disagree with the improvement of the RonJon grill? I can't remember a product transforming the overall look of a car the way this one does with the new TL.
I'm patiently waiting to see when it is available and what the actual product looks like.

How about painting the stock grille

Hi - I'm Joe

I bought a 2009 TL
In my purchase deal I arranged to have the
stock grille painted - because I was going to get
the dark grey - and the chrome grille really sticks out.
Looks great painted.
Anyway - I ended up choosing a white TL and I liked the
way it looked with the stock grille.
PS- I like the redeisgn of the 2009.
The understated conservative sport sedan look has been
done too many times.

We have the funds ready for the tooling, the mnaterials are pre-purchased and in stock (ABS Plastic), and the cost of the grille will be determined at $645 non painted with mesh and hardware, ready to bolt in, but will require paint. We might provide the paint option for certain colors, but we still have to determine that based on matching ability.

The grille will be a 2 piece shell of ABS plastic, vacuum fomed, and sonic welded, mesh will mount right on behind the grille and the RJ logo will be placed on the mesh or not, Just like the concept.

Only thing now is that we need a donor car, which one is pending as we speak. if nothing comes of it, then I will let you guys know. Pics should follow shortly.

I believe this is a decent price for what it is. Will you be able to post installation instructions online? And does the front bumper still have to be removed?

Good news, I am signing the paperwork for ronjon tonight, and dropping my car off for testing on sunday. It will be about 3 weeks without my TL, but well worth a new grille. From my talks with Rondy this thing is going to be sick. So hopefully we will get some progress pics up in the next week or so.

Meh. $640 + paint makes it far less attractive. Nice, but not $800 worth after paint.

The E&G grille, though, does clash with the car's other lines. Fine detail like the mesh isn't found anywhere else on this car - it's full of big slabby shapes, so it doesn't work well.

Looks like getting used to the OEM is the ticket.

I'm in if the RJ grille appeals to me. I am awaiting the pictures to determine if I like it or not. RJ does make some awesome products so the money isn't the issue for me. I love my car and have been looking forward to the RJ concept to finally drop.

RJ, can't wait to see the finished product. If it is a cool as I expect it to be, please include WDP paint color as an option to paint.

My thoughts exactly. I emailed RJ, even with their 10% off Black Friday price, I couldn't pull the trigger. He's what he replied to me:

Sorry, it's not that easy to dissect our pricing and production costs. And our biggest customers are the dealerships who purchase 10 or more at a time. Right now, this is our biggest seller. You can order it in prepped and primed for $645, then have a local shop do the paint for you, then you can see how much it costs. If you cannot convince yourself to buy this grille, you don't have to buy it. Maybe painting your OEM grille or buying a less expensive E&G grille may be better for you.

I think you could sell a lot of these if they were painted in the $375-425 range. But at $770 painted I bet you make a nice margin, but I don't see a big market for it, so volume has to be low.

I just didn't appreciate the 'take it or leave it' attitude. Oh well.

Please don't hold it too much against him.

It's very hard being a small manufacturer in this kind of niche automotive market.

Nobody's ever satisfied with quality and everybody wants something for next to nothing.

I'm not saying that's what you did, but he's probably just about burned out with emails and phone calls wanting price cuts and small design changes.

I've never been a manufacturer, but I've been at [another site] long enough to have seen and dealt with a few dozen small manufacturers, and the way he's typing to you is not at all unusual when somebody gets buried by service demands.

jsherm007, no offense but Ron's email seems appropiate to me.

you need to keep in mind that what he is selling is a very niche product. so the wiggle room he has on pricing is probably not what you think it is. the upfront R&D he needed to do to get the product where it needed to be was extensive i am sure.

and he provided you with some other options if you didn't want to buy his grille (paint the stock one etc.)

just my two cents.

When I went back to my purchasing dealer, I saw one of these E&G grills on the "parts" wall ... you know, where they keep the factory aftermarket wheels and moonroof visors. I talked to the Sales Manager about it, specifically questioning the "plug and play" aspect of it. He told me that there was a reason they had it on the wall and not on a showroom vehicle.

I easily read between the lines.

Thank you, I wish I could just lower the price and sell more of them, but in all honesty, it's not really as big of a profit margin as many think. The grille is a 2 piece sonic welded frame, a removeable "A" bar or straight bar option (2 different molds), and we preserved the mounting points so the frame can stand alone. besides all that, we paint the grilles two different colors (bar is silver, frame is body color), so all this does sorta add up.

Also, the way the sender of the email worded it, he was basically dissing my product, no offense, but I felt a little too insulted to even say anything else. prices can't be just negotiated beyond operating cost. We got to pay the bills too.

Here is the exact message I sent RJ. I never 'dissed' the product. I think the product looks great! Why does he think I inquired about it? If I thought it was crap, then I wouln't be interested in buying one.

I think the above highlighted and underlined statement is what he took exception. Basically what you are stating in no apparent terms is that he is over pricing his product when only he knows what the true cost of the product is. I am willing to bet that the grilles cost him more than $375-$425 from his post.
