Keyfob battery replacement

On the keyless fob, the battery is easy to replace. Just remove the built-in key and then pry open the case using a coin in the slot next to where the key inserted into the case. The coin battery is a CR2032. Snap case back together once you replace the battery. I just did my 2009 TL fob about two weeks ago.

It is in the manual. It does not charge the key.

I changed mine since i didnt know how long it was in use and i didnt want to take any chances of it crapping out on me. I bought a six pack of batteries from ebay for $3 so i'm covered for a good while.

The car will give you a warning message if the fob battery is low on juice.

Odd. Mine gave me a message a couple of weeks ago. Drove it that day and replaced the battery the next day.

Get legit batteries like name brand Energizer or Duracell. I bought Ikea ones. They last like a month.

If your fob battery does die you can always insert it in the ignition slot and still be able to start your car, it's good to know just in case.

If I could only tell you just how many key fob batteries we change here at the dealer, you'd be amazed. It's incredibly simple yet so many clients refuse to even attempt it. We keep a specific set of mini eyeglass screwdrivers at the retail parts counter for this task alone. And yes, the batteries you get at the dealer are quite expensive. They are made by Panasonic, in case anyone was wondering.

Base Model TLs take a CR1616 and the OEM part number is - 72148-S0A-000 : $6.94 each

Tech Model and above TLs take a CR2032 and that part number is - 72148-SNB-000 : $10.46 each
