2009 to 2012 TL 6 speed manual review
Wondering if anyone out there that has purchased a 6 speed '09- '12 TL can give a quick review on their satisfaction with their vehicle. I have an '04 TL 6sp and love it, but am being forced by my employer to purchase a newer vehicle and regretably have to sell mine. I am also exploring the possiblity of other models as well.
thanks!

I have a 2010 AWD 6MT, and I love it. The shifter is among the very best I've driven. Very smooth, short throws and very positive. The 2010 really comes alive with the 6MT. It drives like a much smaller car. The combination of the MT and the SH-AWD is really a match born in heaven.
Drive one - I think you'll see what I mean.

Thanks so much! I'm also curious to hear about your MPG findings - have you gathered any data? I'm mostly on the highway at high speeds, around 75mph here in FL. If you have any data on MPG with your car, sure would appreciate it.
Thanks again!

i've had a 2012 for about 4 months now; I drive on the interstate a lot for work, between 75-80 but fairly hilly conditions, and I'm always around 23.7 mpg. You could easily get 25-26 by slowing down to 65-70, that seems to be the sweet spot. I definitely have a lead foot though
Transmission/shifter/clutch are all amazing, whether you're driving aggressively or cruising around town. As stated prior, you definitely get the most out of the powertrain/AWD combination with the MT because you can keep the RPMs between 3500-6500 if you want to... all the power you need right on tap.
The only thing that would make it better for daily driving is either a taller first gear or a more torque at the bottom-end to start in second; you can start in second, but you have to pay attention. The first four gears are definitely "close ratio" and first will get you off the line quickly but its not that great for stop and go traffic.

i love mine. shifter is amazing; clutch is a little light for my taste; but it's fine. engine is buttery smooth up to the redline; so it's a joy to hear it rev on a regular basis. my one complaint is that 6th gear needs to be modified somehow to allow us to cruise at 80 at around 2500 rpm (like the auto).. currently at 80 in 6th i'm about 3300 rpm. i get about 22 mpg in mixed driving; not bad

The biggest surprise with this car has been the mileage. I'd read complaints about the mpg before I bought it and was obviously aware of the EPA numbers. To date, with about 14K miles, I've averaged 25.3 mpg. I use the car as a daily driver, mostly on a 32 mile (round trip) commute consisting of about half freeway (sometimes 60+ mph, sometimes clogged) and half suburban/urban driving. If you use the car a lot in traffic or on short trips, no surprise, the mpg will drop considerably, especially with the A/C working.

I absolutely love it! The only regret you'll have is if you don't pull the trigger and buy one.
It's an absolute blast to drive. I've had a 6AT TL loaner a couple different times and there's no comparison (granted it wasn't SH-AWD either).

Here is my take on the 6mt ('10):
Shifter is about as good as it gets.
Mileage about 21 average doing 34 mph average, which is a fair amount of slow driving. Easily over 25 on highway.
The Shawd is very direct with the 6mt. Handling is great, even without the hp tires.
The car is quite fast.
It doesn't rev that smoothly, IMHO. I'm spoiled with the 91 nsx.
The ride is probably stiffer than the auto, but that's ok with me. The handling is top notch.
It's a big car but feels smaller, especially after getting used to it over a two year period.

Under hard acceleration, it feels like the power doesn't end. When you shift gears, you get slapped right back into the power-band. Cornering is definitely more fun with the 6MT since you can hold it in gear and accelerate through the curve with the help of the SH-AWD. I absolutely love the way this car drives and handles.

Thanks for clearing that issue up - will make it easier for a decision on one of these if in fact I do decide to purchase one. I think I'm going to tear up when I see my '04 TL MT go to a new home... but a '12 sure could make me feel better... Thanks again for your input!
