2003 TL-S to 2012 TL SH-AWD

Just checking in from 2nd gen to 4th gen forum.

I was planning to sell 03 TL with around 160 000km this year when this happened.

A terrible driver turned in front of me while I had right of way, spinning my car 180 degrees upon impact. Both air bags went off and my daughter and I suffered minor soft tissue damage for now.

After flipping back and forth between 3rd gen TL or Infiniti G or M AWD series, this came up and bought it when 25 months lease was ending with a lady driven, low mileage TL. Wanted white or dark gray with ebony interior and those combo was hard to find in a used market. I didn't want to go with 09-11 TL's due to the "beak". Sorry for owners of those models.

Picking it up at the dealer.

After a major snow storm a few weeks ago and with a winter rim/tire set up put on. Running 09 TL base rims and Firestone Winterfore tires. A bit noisy, but almost unstoppable in the snow.

And a pic from yesterday's snowfall.

Glad to stay with Acura family (wife has 09 MDX) and be able to enjoy AWD in this type of weather.
Previous owner tinted the windows and installed a remote starter. I've since ordered Lamin-X for fogs and turn signals as well as HID 3000K fogs.

Nice upgrade. I also went from a 2003 TL-S to a 2012 SH-AWD. Mine is a 6MT though.

Congrats on getting your 4G TL.

I too went from a 2002 TL-S to a 2012 AWD TL.

The 4G TL is a much superior car, and nothing beats AWD and a good set of snow tires in the snow and on ice.

What an upgrade!

Must feel great not having those dreaded tranny failures hanging above your head anymore, eh?

Ironically, I just did tranny flush a couple of weeks before as a preventative maintenance. TL-S was fun to drive and required little TLC other than wear and tear items. But yes, I was hoping to trade in the car before the dreaded AT failure.

I had a lot of sentimental memories, but once 305HP and AWD kicked in with the test drive, those memories seemed to fade real quickly. I hope to share ideas, DIY, and thoughts via this forum.

Thanks guys for kind words. I hope to enjoy this gen TL for another decade or so (usual time I keep most of my vehicles).

OP....Looking at the car in the background of the picture showing your 2012 TL, could this be the 2015 TLX concept?

Sorry to see anyone involved in an accident but you are both doing fine, and I must say that I like your new wheels

Haha...After finishing a bottle of whiskey, anything with four wheels would like 2015 TLX concept.

Living in Canada......Whiskey is the best blood thinner OR a glass of red wine....that is the French in me though.

What kind of car is that anyway? An old Honda?

I was in a similar situation. I had done so many mods on my 2G TL-S that it was quite a struggle to let the car go.

However, I had no choice because the TL-S was starting to show some telltale signs of yet another possible tranny failure, and the thought of having to put aside $4-5K for a tranny replacement job finally made me put my acts together.

But after having driven the 4G AWD TL, I kept blaming myself that I should have made the switch sooner.

Congrats on your purchase! Best color and definitely set up for max winter driving. As owner of a 2010 Tech no need to worry about offending us "beak" owners". We tend to like the more "aggressive" look of our cars but would happily settle for the MMC version as well. The more important thing is being part of the TL family!

Shame about your '03 though. You could have gotten a nice chunk of change for it, at least here in the US. Probably between $5,000 - $6,000.

I got lucky and got a settlement from the insurance for over $8500 for a 10 year old car. I thought it was a fair as it had lower mileage than others on the market with only a bumper repair to show on the record.

Just put on 3000K HID fogs in 30F weather in the garage yesterday. It was cold, but the DIY write up from the other member post made it easy to sway over. It's definitely brighter than stock fogs. Looks whitish from the front and gives off a bit of yellowish tinge on the ground. I will wait for the bulbs to "burn" in properly and see how yellow it gets with time.

Welcome to the forum.
I might be tempted to say "white is for refrigerators" but I will be nice.
Besides, weather (mon ami) would kick me in the balls. LOL. jk jk jk
Hope the car works for you.
If you have not already seen it, the service manual link from artunique on here is a terrific resource.
Your '12 awd has a very complicated torque converter. Just sayin....
PS, my daughter is in Medicine Hat!

It's my first white vehicle as well so it'll be different, but more forgiving in terms of external maintenance. My wife's black MDX keeps me busy enough with swirls and marks to take care of.

I did download the manual from the other OP for future references. Thanks anyways.

Having to live with 03 TL's potential tranny failure issues for last ten years (thankfully mine was still the original when the car got totaled), 12's TC issue can't be any worse.

I don't get to stop in Medicine Hat too often unless I am traveling east to see my folks. Nice sized city which I am glad to see after leaving Saskatchewan (no offense to Riders fans and people of Sask.).

Sorry about the accident, luckily you all seem to have avoided serious injuries.

Congrats on the upgrade , however don't be too sorry for us with the "beak",trust me there are many fine examples of them on this forum lol.

Nothing is worst than the shitty 2G TL/CL trannies, which are deemed a safety hazard. When they fail, the sudden 5th-to-2rd gear downshift could lock up the drive wheels, and spin the car around out of control.

However, the 4G TL TC issue is mainly to do with noises and gear-shift smoothness, and won't affect the main tranny operations.

Yup. My 2001 MDX in college had 3 replaced for free under warranty for this issue.
