Poll question: Do you flash your headlights to warn oncoming drivers they are heading into a radar trap?

I usually do. I've been saved a few times by someone else's gesture of kindness, seems only fair to return the favour when possible.

i used too but one time the other guy flashed me back and gave me the bird...umm...so not anymore, they can get a fing ticket

I know its been discussed before, but lately it seems everyone I pass is flashing me. I always look for a cop and nothin. Damn Xenons.

Anyway I voted no. I not warned nearly enough so why return the favour.

I get flashed more now too, so I never know if it's cuz of my xenons or not but I usually flash oncoming traffic for a trap - gotta be careful, I'm pretty sure that it's illegal to flash your brights and if they see you they can nail you.

It is against the law and they will give you a worse ticket then if you would have gotten busted for speeding.

Not anymore. I brought this up in another thread and was corrected by Crazytree, who is studying law, and he cited some case in Texas where the Supreme court ruled that the driver doing the flashing was practicing his 1st amendment, and not obstructing justice.

But anyways, after learning that, I've decided to stop doing this to save the hassle of going through the process with some cop who isn't up to date with new laws.

I said no...never been flashed for anything other than my HIDs appearing as if they were highbeams.

Crap I could have sworn it was a US Supreme Court case... heard it on NPR but I can't find the citation on google. I did however, find similar cases from lower courts in various states.

I flash my beams sometimes to warn others about a cop sitting on the side of the road. I think its good to warn others. I've been saved several times when others warned me of speed traps.

I used to, but now that I'm in LA I never get above 40mph with traffic anyways. Kind of hard to get a ticket when you can't even speed.

I used to but not anymore after seeing increase of accidents near where I live and people getting hurt. They just need to learn to slow down. Perhaps getting a ticket or two will discourage speeding. This is the way I look at it. The next speeder would be the one that kill your family or loved ones. So let them have the f**king tickets!

Flashing could mean one of a number of things.

• Your high beams are on, doofus.
• Upcoming radar trap. Look out!
• Wanna race?

Last night, a guy pulled ahead of the pack and flashed his maybe 3-4 times with a long 3 seconds between each flash. It looked almost like he was testing something.

To avoid getting a possible ticket for flashing your brights...just flash your fog lights if you have them...

I thought you were SUPPOSED to flash when you want the car ahead to let you pass. Do police differentiate between TYPES of flashing?

Anyway I can fight the traffic cops I'll do it. I have never heard of it being illegal to flash your brights. If a cop pulled me over for that, I would just say I hit the wrong lever trying to clear the windshield. Again, if you do it once you pass they'll never know anyway. I'd like to see a conviction in court for it...I'd probably ask a judge to repremand the cop

I don't generally speed but I'll drive a few mph over the limit...about 10%.
I've always flashed others when I see a revenue generator preying on innocent commuters who generally are obeying the limit or maybe 5-10mph over the limit but nothing excessive.
Here in new england we have lots of curves and hills for the cops to hide and The other day I had my mind on work and had this woman flash me from a chevy cavalier, I slowed a bit and there was a cop sittingaround the corner waiting for an unwary commuter.
I was very grateful and chalked it up to all the times I'd helped others from getting a ticket and delaying their arrival home.
So as I've always said, what goes around comes around.
