Thanks a lot guys !!!
Do you mean?
a) You just signed up once for 2 years of service for $160 (minus the $14 for 2 months credit)

or

b) You got 1 year of XM for $77 a year ago and that they want $83 now?

Well, I felt like splurging, so I tried this.

Background info: My 3-month trial package expired July 06 (I bought my TSX last April).

The representative wanted my radio's id off the bat so she could look for my record. She didn't find it (the radio code showed up as available). So I started getting worried, thinking that they wouldn't give the "win back" promo since it didn't show that I had been a previous customer. She then asked me for my personal information (name and address). I got more worried giving out the info since I thought maybe she might be signing me up for a regular account or maybe another 3-month trial.

Next, she asked me what plan I was interested in getting. I was thinking to myself, "how can I claim that I had received a flyer when I'm not in the system?" I then decided to tell her that a family member told me that i had received a flyer for the $77/year plan (so i could blame a family member for giving me the wrong info). I asked if it was available, and she said yes...but I had to give her a promo code. I said "zwinback", and she said that it's the correct code.

She said I get a $12.95 credit if I use a credit card. She didn't see any tax on my record so she didn't tax me. Total for a year: $64 !!!

She also tried to sell me a portable xm radio for $5.99 or $6.99. I agreed to it, and then she started telling me about the pricing plan (you have to get a family plan, pay activation, etc...)....so then I told her I'm no longer interested

Woo hoo...satellite radio for my summer road trips! I bet my car will feel new all over again =P~

Is this correct? I know $77/yr is the standard 'winback' promotion rate, and XM just sent me an email earlier this week that if I switch to autobilling, they'll give a $12.95 credit. I didn't realize the two were combinable.

I haven't thought about it before, but I assume all the 'winback' renewals were for 1 year only? So, if you do nothing, your XM subscription ends? The $12.95 credit would be a nice plus, but my first impression is that is shifts you to auto-renewal. That means next year, instead of you convincing XM to give you the $77/yr winback rate (for a member whose about to let their membership expire), now you have to convince them to give it to you instead of the auto-renewing ~$155/yr ($12.95/month x 12) rate. If so, that ~$13 savings now isn't worth the potential loss later on.

Semi-related question - how far in advance did people call up to renew? I think my annual subscription ends mid-July 07.

I actually received the postcard in the mail recently (late april) and signed up just a few days ago (said the special offer was ending on May 18th). I bought my '06 in early December and let the 3 month trial run out.

Of course I doubt the special offer ended on May 18th. I was kinda surprised I that I actually received the postcard. I thought it was just an "old deal" that was still being used.

The rep asked no questions at all. I simply told her I received a postcard in the mail for an offer to sign up for 1 year of service at $77.00. She didn't hesitate and simply asked for my radio ID.

As I read in the script, you just call up and tell them that you do not want the account to auto-renew so that your subscription can end. They then transfer you to a retention specialist with whom you can say that it's too expensive and you'll only sign up if you get the deal again.

She didn't say anything about auto-renewing...she just said she'd give me the credit if I used my credit card (what other forms of payment are there? receiving monthly bills in the mail?)

By the way, the credit card I used was a "virtual credit card"...basically my credit card company makes up a temporary number, and I can use it to buy stuff over the phone or the internet. The number is tied to my account, so once it's been charged, I can close the temporary number. So even if auto-renewal is on, they can't charge me anyway.

Yes, you can do it now. Just call the number and recite the script. Have your radio ID code available. It is in your paperwork for the new car or is also given on channel 0 on the XM radio.

Dont try my method ... But I got a letter saying that my 1st year ( via winback 77.00 ) of xm is going to be over and that they will automatically bill me 144.00 for another year. So, I called the number on the paper to canceled my subscription. A sales representative took the call and asked me why. I had explained that for 144.00 I'd rather not have it because I rarely use it anyway. He then explained to me that
the 77.00 dollar deal was a promotion and that to continue the service I would have to pay 144.00. I then told him, "O.K. cancel it". He then asked me if he could ask me a couple questions (didnt really give me much choice), so I said yes.. He asked me what I did not like about XM or something along those lines. I told him that the sound quality was crappy because of the use of low bit-rate mp3's on most of my favorite channels. He then asked me if I'd like to continue my service at 77.00 for another year. That is all I have to say.

Sorry if I misspelled anything but I've been up for 24 hours.

The OLD code is zwinback but they are not using it or asking for it for the last couple of months. XM is honoring the $77 deal without having to give a promotional code.

However, if they ask for a promotional code, I recommend that you say you put the flyer away and can't put your hands on it at the moment "but I think it was something like "zwinback".

If they say that is not valid anymore, then tell them that must have been the first flyer that you got and that you got a couple of them.

You shouldn't have to go through all that. Most people are getting it on the first try with no promotional code.

You WILL need your radio code. If they ask for a code, it is the RADIO code that you can get on XM Channel 0. They need that to turn your service on.

Good luck, all.

Dave

The old code was winback...the new code is zwinback.

If you read my post a few days ago, you'll see that I had to give the promo code. Also, when you log into the website, the promo code they used will be listed there.

As confirmed with the representative, zwinback is still active

I'm sure the representatives have to use a promo code to explain why you get a discount (in case they're audited, etc). If they don't ask, they probably know what you're trying to do and will just enter the code for you.

OK, in case anyone is still reading these threads... I just got another year at $77. My story went much like TSX420J's... although I swear I didn't read it until after I had my phone call.

My XM recently ran out (17 months after purchase of car and initial $77 buy... not bad) and I received a letter saying they would auto-renew me at their full (ridiculous) rate. I called the 800 number on the letter and the first person I talked to, I said "I would like to cancel". She said OK, would you mind answering a 3 question survey as to why you don't want XM anymore? I did it and answered it truthfully (I think its too expensive for what you get) and at the end she said "Would you like to renew for another year at $77?"

It was that easy. No codes, and I didn't even have to ask. Got another year. I'll post this time next year and see if it works again then.

Questions answered!

I just called in for my brother-in-law for his 2007 Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck. His three month trial had expired.

I called the number and I read the script as posted here.

The girl did not ask for a promotion code; only the radio code.

She then took my credit card information.

Then, she offered me an XM radio receiver with a vehicle kit, a docking station complete for $ 5.99. That involves a second subscription which was $84 a year.

That's all there was to it.

To those of you who insist on winging it with your own approach, good luck. Some of you get it and some of you don't. I prefer to use the tried and true methods that work nearly every time.

The only thing we ask is that you don't go all cavalier like they owe you the deal and tell them that you heard about it on the Internet or on Acurazine.

I have said this dozens of times: this is not a well-known, up front promotion. Many of the Customer Service Reps don't even know about it until they check it out with a supervisor. If XM suspects this promotion is being bandied about the Internet, they could slam the door.

We want to tread softly so that we do not kill the Golden Goose. Please be considerate.

When you get the receiver, I'd be curious to know the make & model, and how well it works.

Note that I've previous received emails from XM to 'add an additional radio for $6.99/month' ($84/yr), what you got it for. So, no special rate there, although it's good to know it can be combined with an existing $77/yr rate on the first radio.

i actually just received the $77 offer in the mail from XM. i'm an 07 owners, so maybe those of you with newer TSXs who let your service run out will get similar offers.

i'm probably not going to renew though. as much as i like having genre- or era-based stations (i only listened to rock and liquid metal), you still run into the same issue as terrestrial radio--the same damn songs played over, and over again.

that's why i have my ipod and the aux input.

is the red paragraph directed towards me ?

That is cool, but you are talking about a three month trial and I was talking about the 77.00 promotion. See, after my three month trial expired I did the 77.00 for a year trick as in the first post. Then that expired and I had to renew it, but There was no way to do the trick since I already got the 77.00 deal, get it. So I was planning on canceling it and waiting a couple of months after to redo the trick but everything ended out happening like in post # 330. I also stated not to use my method.

Not in particular. It's directed to those who try a different method.... which is their option.

If you jump over to the 3G TL forum and find a parallel thread on this topic, you will see that many, many people (including me) are on their 3rd year of the $77 deal.

This deal worked for me today. I called 800 682 4114 and got a year for $77. Didn't follow the script exactly but the lady knew exactly what I was talking about and didn't ask for a code.

Called to check when my subscription was expiring (next month) and ended up renewing for $'77'. The lady was SUPER nice - I went by script after asking when it was up and got it renewed along with a $12.95 credit for using my credit card...

so I got it for $64.05

I have an '03 TL with an aftermarket HU with XM built in. Will this promo work with that or will it only work with factiry installed units? I am month to month, could I call and cancel and get past to retention for this deal? (I know when the whole O&A thing exploded last month, many people were calling up to cancel and they were throwing deals at them to stay.)

I told her I wanted nav taffic included and of course that didn't work. After a few minutes of negotiations she offered me nav traffic for $1.99 per month instead of the usual $3.99. I also with the $5.99 deal for the extra reciever. I'm just happy I get my MLB/NHL programming and of course the music choices go without saying. I can't wait till the sirrius channels come over to xm :o )

Live, real time traffic info is displayed on the Navi in the RL and, I believe, the new TLs.

I don't think it is yet available in the TSX.

wow that is amazing, i would gladly pay $1.99 for that. Is it a built-in feature? Or can it be added with a new nav DVD?

You have to have the hardware built in to receive and display it and then you subscribe to the service which is only available in major metro areas.

I think it would be a hassle to try and add it because it requires the hardware.

Did mine friday for the 2nd year. They said it's a 1 time thing, but since I told them I got a letter, they gave it to me. Also got a Delphi XM radio for the wife for $6 and the same rate per year for her.

Smile I just got mine too

I just got mine too @ $77/year, but it wasn't as easy as some of you..

My 3-month trial period ends tomorrow. So, a guy called me today to remind me about the expiration. He wouldn't give me any less than the $12/month. I asked him for a better deal and he wouldn't give any.... so, I said I would think about it....

Then I called 800 682 4114 (listed here by TSXFL). The nice lady did not offer less than the $12/month either, so I just said: "my next door neighbour's subscription expired a few days ago and he got a $77/yr deal using the winback code", so she put me on hold for a couple of minutes checking something out and when she came back she gave it to me.

She also indicated that "many subscribers do not know this, but you will get the same deal ($77/year) automatically charge to your credit card every year"

So I guess I am all set!! Thanks guys!!!

NO! You will not be charged $77 per year after the first one. It reverts back to the original amount. I was charged $12 a month till I called and used the $77 deal. Just be careful.

XM Renewal at $77 works like a charm!

I've had XM for 2 1/2 years now. For the last year, I've been paying the standard/sucker rate of $12.99 a month. After reading the postings on this forum, I called today to cancel. I was immediately transfered to a "renewal specialist" (clearly from a call center overseas) who asked why I was quitting. I noted (accurately) the horrible fidelity on the talk stations. Obviously not the slightest bit interested in the nature of my complaint, she then asked whether I might be interested in special half price offers for 3 months, 6 months, or a year. I chose the 12 month/$77 option, and was signed up at once, without any special renewal codes, etc. Only wish I had known about this earlier. Clearly XM wants to keep subscribers and is willing to give a great deal to do so.

I asked her to confirm to me that, and she did say that it would be $77/yr for at least the following year. Still will be careful, thanks!

No problems here getting 2nd year on my '06 TSX.

Called: 800-682-4114

Said, "Hi, I think my account is expiring soon. I received a flyer in the mail for $77 for another year, is that something you can help me with?"

They said, "Yes, would you like to accept that offer?"

I said, "Yes, yes I would."

Gave them the radio code, paid them right away with a credit card, and it's all set.

No problems here, either.

Called: 800-682-4114

I told them my account was expiring today and that I wanted to take advantage of the $77 a year plan that I'd heard about through a flier about two weeks ago. The lady said there wasn't a problem and asked for my CC number.

That was that.
