Thumbs up XM Radio

Yes........$77/yr is a great deal...but how about next year???.......it goes to $12 or so per month. The deal is (if you like XM) get them to give you 5 yrs at $8.33/mo. Then you are set for 5 years.

I tried and was told that they are still running the Winback promo, but I would have to let my current trial subscription completely run out and I would either get a letter or someone would call me about that promotion. I'm going to keep trying back until I get the right person to talk to.

Other than that. i feel Sirius is more remixes and a better variety, offering more content. XM IS more mainstream music, like u'd hear on the radio. XM also repeats song frequently like the radio does. I wouldn't pay for XM if it didn't come with the car. I am Sirius 100%.....oh well.

I'm told that Sirius has better content but I guess it's personal taste and he likes Howard Stern who is on Sirius.

Anyhow, I JUST got off the phone w/ the XM Customer Service at 1-800-929-2100 and I got mine hooked up. I didn't have to wait til my free service ended or anything. I also told him to invoice me at home so I don't even have to pay for it for a month. Woohoo! Gotta love "the float."

UGH...

Im locked in at 9.99 since April and I just signed up for a second receiver on Saturday. If I call and threaten to cancel, do you think the will give me the WinBack Promo and give me a refund for the difference???

Yes, say that you cancel and be serious about it. And sort of halfway through the process, ask if you are eligible for the winback promo then you'd consider rejoining. If no, then I'd just cancel and then call back to use the winback promo.

I got it to work this morning - $77/year. First thing I said was "I need to activate my winback promo". He asked which one it was, and I said the $77/year one. He told me there are so many different winback promo's, it's had to keep track of all of them.

Yeah, I tried to say $60 / year but he said it's now $77. So I guess it's as good as any.

My three month trial ended July 4th. I called on July 3rd and said I received a letter regarding the Winback promotion. The operator took my info and I was able to get the $77 year promo. No hassles at all this time!

You have to charge it to a regular credit card like any other purchase...

It's not a full subscription price for an additional unit, but it is extra.

You might want to try and call back. When I set mine up in April I told them about the free trial and it was set up to kick in once the trial was over. I guess you didn't talk to the employee of the month over there. Call back and you might get someone more helpful.

Called today and got it.

Called 1-800-929-2100

Typical account verification steps. I didn't know my subscriber ID so she verified with phone number and my address.

XM: You're currently on 3 month trial, ending Oct 20 of this year, how I can I help you?
Me: I'd like to activate the WinBack promo, $77 for the first year.
XM: Ok, I can do that for you.

The rest is just her asking for my credit card info.

I also asked about locking in a rate for after the 1st year and she said she couldn't do it. So I asked her to make a note in the computer that I've requested the 3 year package (at current price) to be activated after the 1st year package is up. It may not work, but at least I got the 1st year for a great deal.

Thanks for the help guys.

Just got the $77/mo deal. I tried for $60, but the rep told me that no such promotion exists. After I told her that a "friend" got it last month, she told me that my friend is lying.

Just a reminder for anyone who wants to extend their suscription -- you have to wait 10-20 minutes while the radio is on Channel 1 in order for your radio to download new data. The car can't be under any trees, in a garage, or carport.

wtf? I have to leave my keys in my car under the blazing California sun for 20 freakin minutes?

It doesn't take 20 minutes. They are just covering their butts in case something holds it up.

You're right about the employee of the month thing! I could hardly understand the guy and I was on hold for ever being re-routed to different departments. I will call again tomorrow and try, try again!

I just called and was on hold for 10 minutes. I told her my trial is expiring on the 13th and that I contacted my dealer who advised me to call XM with the Winback promo. She said "no problem, 77 for the year" My card won't be charged until the 13th when the new contract picks up. No interuption in service either.

WooHoo!

Question for you guys, if I do the "winback" promo and get $77 for a year, do you think I can call up later and get the "family plan" to sign my girlfriend up for $6.99 a month? Ultimately it's about the same price as setting her up for $12.95 a month for a year, but hey why not get the XM for myself as well so she doesn't have to "suffer" when we take road trips in my car..

My other option would be to negotiate the $77 + $6.99/mo. over the phone at the same time with the rep, but I thought that might sound a little greedy..

I'm interested in the deals (if any) after the 1 year is over. $13.95 is a lot to pay per month.

I think its $12.95 a month if you pay it monthly. If you pay up front for multiple years in one lump sum you can get it down to $9.99 a month (23% savings). I don't think there is any obligation, so you can get any money back that you don't use, in the case of cancelling say 2 yrs. into your 4 years of prepaid time.

I just called and got someone who said I could not have both the three month free promotion (after buying the car) and the winback. I told them nevermind, I won't be subscribing then.

You can always wait until the promo ends.. but like I said in my post above, I called with a few months left on my free 3 month trial and there was no problem.

Just call back until you get someone who says ok

I have called 3-4X now and each time the rep told me NO! I gave up and am just waiting until my 90 days ends here in a few weeks. Drives me crazy since it seems to completely depend upon which customer service person takes your call. You would think they would all have been given the same instructions on how to handle calls regarding the winback promo.

Go to the Audio section of the TL forum. You will see a long thread on XM. Within that thread is a magic phone number almost guaranteed to get you $77 for 1 year.

Try calling again.

The first person I spoke with said I couldn't use the promotion during my 3 month free trial. She said I would have to call back when my trial ended. She was very nice, but I could tell I wasn't going get anywhere. I called back and explained what the first rep said. I asked if I could sign up with the promotion now so I wouldn't have a lapse in my service. The second rep was annoyed with the first and said, "well, she wasn't doing her job. I'm curious to see who it was." Then she proceeded to find out and sign me up with using the $77 offer. She said my one year would start when my 3 month trial ends.

Also I called at 10 am EST and the call went right through without being placed on hold.
