XM Radio: How to Renew for $77 a Year
#402
Make a hole, coming thru!
Just tried to renew online with the WINBACK code (duh), and it renewed me at $142.xx without offering a field for a coupon. D'oh! I called and a customer service rep reversed that and gave me a year for $77 + a little tax, even after telling me "that promotion is obsolete." "One time promotion" she said. (I presume they really don't want to tell someone, 'no we won't let you renew for a year' when they may offer a la carte pricing in a few months. That's conjecture, of course.)
Since my Acura's trial ended a few weeks ago, I'll watch my mailbox for a new "win back" promotion.

Then, I remember that there are literally thousands of posts on these threads about XM special deals. I can't expect you to read them all. I do expect a little bit of scanning and research.
When the promotional code was required, a long time ago, it was "zwinback", not "winback". However, posters for the last six months or so have said they have not needed a promotional code. Others have given another code as it appeared on their flyers which have been reproduced on this site (see 3G TL forum)
But, in the end, if it works, it works. The most consistent successes have been with the proven script.

Whatever.... What I didn't mention is that it's my Pioneer Inno that I renewed the subscript for, and to quality for the $50 rebate, I have to have continual service for six months.
Haven't decided yet if I want to add my TSX as a second radio....

I just got off the phone with the XM rep 5 minutes ago. My XM was set to autorenew at $142 tomorrow.
As others have stated, you don't need the winback promotion.
All you have to do is say you don't want it to auto renew at the $142 price because it's not worth it at that price and if that's the price then you want to cancel.
Then, they will you transfer (they did for me) to someone who can give you the $77 price.
Hope that helps,
Rich

and your XM radio ID. They'll verify your address of course.

Create a login account and all your details are there: registered radios, subscription invoice, etc. Also lets you access the streaming XM Radio Online with a suitably equipped computer (no dice for Linux).

Haha. Call and ask them when the a la carte pricing is going to begin. When you get the "we don't know and if we did know, we couldn't say" speech, ask to restart but for less. Just a suggestion....

My XM Account info identifies the package as "12 months of XM Radio for $77 - A 50% Savings! Regular rates apply after promotional period." This is probably loaded from a product/billing schema like that used at my current gig.
It's probably unrelated, but yesterday I happened to twirl the tune dial on XM in my car. Since the 2 1/2 trial ended in early October, I've listened to CDs and MP3s via the AUX plug. Without notice, my Acura's XM is subscribed again. Not mentioned in my XM Account Details (I never identified my car on the account, that would've added $7 a month). Maybe one of the marketing calls to my voice mail from my Acura dealer whch I blew off was about this. I'll post when/if I get more info.

Just wait for the merger to go through. Sirius is better anyway - except for MLB. Their combination will be great. I currently have my Sirius installed and am waiting for them to combine so that hopefully I will be able to get both through my factory XM+Nav.

My trial expired.. very easy renewal at $77 using the script. Just told them I got the letter and they asked what the letter said and I told them using the pdf copy posted. Thanks.

I got an unanticipated call from XM this afternoon because my three-month trial ends Dec. 3rd. The rep tried to get me to renew at full price and I followed the script and told her that I wasn't interested in renewing at full price. She asked me if I'd received anything in the mail and I said "no" (I didn't have a copy of the flier in front of me and wouldn't have wanted to try to b.s. her and screw it up). She didn't offer me the $77 but said that she would "make a note in the computer" about the fact that I was unhappy about the price and that "corporate might be sending you a promotional offer in the mail soon." She said that she'd be calling me back soon. Here's hoping that I'll get a flier of my very own.......and thanks for the info on THE SCRIPT.

Well that was pretty easy. Mine expired a couple weeks ago, and I had gotten a post card promo to "come back to XM" that said $4.99 for 3 months "then continue savings... as low as $9.99/mo." (no codes or anything, she pulled up the special w/ my radio id)
I called and said I wanted to inquire if I *had* to remain signed up after the 3 more months of $4.99 as I didn't really want to pay $10/mo, "maybe $6 or 7 though." She then offered me the $77 deal for the year. I should probably go turn my partially car on and let it reactivate-- just have to remember to go shut it off after!
Was funny-- she said that their Holiday Programming Special is holiday music on Ch 1-3. I said I was considering signing up again to AVOID the holiday music.
Thanks for the info on the deal!!!
p.s. They're having a major sale on their XM portable radio thingy for $5. Still gotta have the monthly fee w/ it, but it's $65 off

It seems clear that the CSRs are not automatons, and if you simply state "I could renew if you charge me $6 or $7 a month," they know of this pricing deal and will probably offer it. In fact, with changing pricing due to the merger somewhere over the horizon, I think they'd be JUMPING at the chance to bill you for a year all at once, trying the higher rates first, then dropping if you're not baited.
BTW, DemonPoofball (great handle), I found that both my radios updated within a few minutes of turning on. During the morning or evening commute is probably more than sufficient to update your radio.
And BTW, folks, if you register on their site, you can see your account, your billing, your subscribed radio(s), and even initiate a re-update of the radio. AND you can stream XM channels (incl. some extras) online for free (Windows Media Player req'd, darn it).

AWESOME!!! My trial expired Sunday, and the radio finally turned off this morning on the way to work... I just called and used "the script" and I now have a full year of service for $77. She wanted to know exactly what the "flyer" said, so it was good I had it up on my screen.
Thanks to everyone who put up this info!

Trial is all channels, for about 90 days (I got 75, but for some reason a new trial has been activated). When it's "inactive" you'll get 0 (radio id), 1 (preview) and a couple of others. Call your dealer and ask them to provide the 90 day trial period, I don't believe it's very complicated.

My XM trial expired in October and I received a postcard in the mail in November stating to come back and i'd pay something like $21 for 3 months. I never got around to calling to reactivate my service, then in the begining of this month I received a call from an XM rep. She offered me 5 months for $20 and I gladly accepted it.
