Water is not good for you (airbag trouble)

Two nights ago I left passenger side window open, and we had rain that night. First rain in like two months, it's drought in NC.

Now "Side Airbag Off" dash light is on most of the time. Sometimes it goes off when I remove passenger headrest but then it comes back on. As I understand rainwater damaged pressure sensors in the seat.

Can anybody tell if I am in big trouble, moneywise? Is there a chance the problem will fix itself when seat foam dries all the way through?

Sergey

I am in Raleigh. The car is out of manufacturer's warranty. Does Acura have lifetime warranty on airbags? I doubt it covers water damage though, it is owner's fault.

Hey neighbors It has been a couple of days and the seat is still damp, water is trapped in foam inside. I'll remove the seat today and try to dry it with compressed air or a hair dryer.

Just a friendly reminder to disconnect the battery and wait a minute or two before you remove the seat ... You don't want to risk the airbag deploying in your face..

I used to have a job as detailer. When we would shampoo a car the fastest way to dry it out was to leave it in the sun with the windows open just a crack. If you want to speed it up, you can put an electric space heater in the car on low.

Thanks for the reminder, you just saved me a lot of trouble. I would have gone in there with a socket wrench w/o unplugging the battery.

Electric heater is a great idea, this way i don't have to remove the seat. I have a small heater/fan with thermostat, I will do it tonight.

I wouldn't leave it unattended overnight. I dunno, maybe that's just me being paranoid but I'd hate to find a smoldering pile where my car used to be come morning.

Hey, at least it will not be cold and damp anymore!

I will turn it off before going to bed (and I don't mean the TV).

Btw, does anybody know if I can disconnect battery cable, remove front passenger seat and reconnect the battery back? Service Manual does not say anything about it. I am afraid if I reconnect battery with the seat removed the airbag will go off. It's not likely but it doesn't hurt to confirm.

thanks,
Sergey
