I do not support this thread because you are all encouraging to race on public highways. Going these speeds is a danger to both you and the people around you. You dont think about it because you have a new car and you think your invincible, but what would you do if your tire blew out and you swerved and hit a pedestrian or another car, or a tree. Then bye bye goes your car, and maybe even you. Think before you act. I know it's fun to see what the top speed is, but why not let professionals do it instead of you.
I'm not trying to be a dick, I just know alot of people who have lost there lives due to speeding and it's just not worth it. Enjoy your life, and enjoy your new cars, but dont risk your life and those around you because you want to see what your "tops out at"...

C/D tests in two directions and averages the runs to get their data in their tests, (but i cannot remenber for sure whether they adjust tests to sea level), so i would be inclined to think their number is fairly accurate. Obviously road conditions (slope), altitude, break in issues...will ultimately affect performance to some degree.
With a governed engine, i can tell you that uphill/downhill will not affect this. I had a '95 Mercury Mystique (5 speed/V6) that was published to be governed at 112mph if i recall correctly. One late night on the way home from work, i got curious. Going up a pretty steady incline i was accelerating pretty hard and got to 112 - it felt like hitting a real brick wall when the power quit coming. Before slowing down, i did note that the needle was right at 112. Amazing what Ford can get right when they try.

Just minutes after break in was complete I pushed it to an amazing 140. In MPH that's probably nothing but in when the speedo is in kilometers, 200 is a scary number that only will be achieved if my car is stolen while I'm vacationing in L.A., and the guy who jacked my ride is being followed by a half dozen black & whites along with the usual squadron of news choppers.
Back to reality.
I've never maintained that kind of pace in any of my previous cars so the smoothness and stability of my car was very cool. When I exited the highway the effect of going that fast for a couple of hours really screwed with my mind and as a result the rest of the drive seemed to take forever as I tried to re-adjust to legal speed. It was like driving behind a convoy of pensioners, armed with their tip calculators, on their way to Red Lobster for the steak and prawn special which is only available before 5PM. (obvious Seinfeld rip-off)

I've gotten it up to about 125 in 5th. 6th gear just won't pull the car once you get over 100 unless you have an hour to spare (not to mention the length of the STRAIGHTEST road to spare too). It seemed pretty sold at that speed, though it wasn't going to make me think that it would go much faster than that. Not that the car can't handle it at that speed (it has the lowest CD of any Acura ever built), but the gear ratios weren't going to give much more acceleration at that point. It took a little while to get to 125 once I got past 100. 5th and 6th gears are pretty tall in the TSX to help conserve the mpg that 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gave up.

I raced a SHO on the interstate and we both pulled dead even all the way up to 143MPH...at least thats what it said on my speedo. I ran 5th all the way past red and went into sixth blazing. Wasnt much pull in sixth but it will accelerate. Either way...I know the car is faster than 133MPH...period

No problem. If you get a gust of wind at that speed you are going to go sideways. Kill yourself which would be ok or kill somebody else which means a long...prison sentence. Keep acting stupid and save money for hospital bills or a lawyer. Plus WHO CARES what the top speed is???? It's just a TSX for god sake.

I think TSX-FL is more concerned about the lives and safety of others around you rather than "topping out" your car. If you really think about it, its not worth dying for. I'm no saint when it comes to speeding but reflecting on the life&death matter makes me think twice sometimes. Just be careful out there. If you want to open her up... do it somewhere safe... use good judgement.

Anyone who does thsi sort of thing on residential streets or a highway where there are lots of cars around is an IDIOT. Dont be weaving in and out at 130mph. But if its an open road and you have plenty of clearing go for it!

tsx-fl opinion is dualy noted. I know it is stupid but I take the risk. I am not stupid enough to do this though traffic. As for the guy in the SHO that day I guess he wanted to as well. Yes I could be killed going that fast but hell...I could be killed getting on the elevator outside my door when the cable snaps and the elevator plummets 10 stories to utilmate doom.....but whatever right...when its time its time.

I was implying that you sounded like a Mother. And I would definitly agree that it is unsafe to travel at those speeds during lots of traffic. I have done 120 mph in my car once, late in the morning(no other traffic). The original purpase of the thread was to see how fast some people have gone and to discuss how the vehicle handled the speed. Not to recomend using these high speeds as a means of everyday travel. By the way my vehicle handled just a well at 120 as it did at 70.

Personally, I think you should have bought that Neon and saved yourself some money.
But hey, you want to stick your foot in your mouth, you go right on ahead and do it.
BTW: A car made to go 100+

Understood sdog 959. What worries me at those speeds if something happens it's a medical, legal or end of life situation. The TSX is not safe at those speeds. It does it but it's a big risk.

I don't have any personal experience, although I'm thinking about doing one next year in my NSX...

Wow. That silver state classic event is pretty cool. If you run the course in your NSX, which class will you pick? I would be scared to drive on that course, considering there appear to be some tight curves (i.e. possibly <60mph) that might sneak up on you. It would be cool to pre-run (at slightly above-legal speeds, like 80-90mph) just to get a feel for the course.

If I like that one and have it supercharged by then (bringing up the top speed to around 190), I might consider a higher class. But first things first!

That is somewhat a reasonnable response among a few rather aggressive others.

139. I tried breaking the 140 mark about 4-5 times at different times and temps, but it seems like my car can't get past that mark? I don't know what's going on... maybe it's the intake robbing my engine of power, or I might need a fresh oil change.

I have to say, it was kind of cool to drive as fast as a Cessna 172 cruises at (200 km/h = about 110 knots), if only for a minute.
I'll still take flying any time though. Flying a 20 year old 172 is still more fun that driving a new TSX really fast on an empty highway. (But it's close.)
