Tsx Top Speed??? How Fast Have You Gone?

I have had my TSX at 120 mph, could have easily taken it further. I just was just curious if anyone has topped theirs out? And if so, how fast was it???

There are some. Like the 2 freeway near glendale/la cresenta. I pulled a 125 in my car there before. Never though do it on ANY PCH. I learned that the hard way. =I

190 kph / 118 mph on Hwy 416 leaving our Capital, Ottawa.
On second thought, I don't think I'll do that again for a long while. In our province, everybody has been hit with huge insurance increases, and those ins co. are looking for any excuse to raise them more.

I went up to 143mph before having to let go because a curb was coming up, but I was still accelerating. My guess would be for a good, solid 146mph.

WHAT?!?, if youre on the right highway the right time of day you have stretches of road to hit highspeeds if your ballsy. the 5 (down near irvine), the 134 (around glendale to burbank to the 101
also the 134 out to the 210 to pasedna, the 101 through hollywood to burbank. parts of the 10 to santa monica. and parts of the 105 out to LAX. just have to be that right time of day and watch for the police, ive never been nuts enough to top out my car i shut down if i see im going 100. Try to stay below 90, but there are times...open stretch of road...foot says yes...brain says no....mmmmm....speed....

Course when i had the TSX loaner i was at 90 and didnt even realize it, sigh, reminded me of my bimmer, its that good. I bet the new TL will be even yummier in that regard

143mph?! 230Km/h?! On 5th or 6th gear? Wow, I never expect TSX to be able to pull such a high top speed. What rpm it's running at?

If I have cleared my speeding ticket, I would've tried it now, but fastest I went is only 100mph.

Yep, 230kph on the nose. And it was still accelerating slightly. But I couldn't tell you at what rpm it was, I didn't notice.

Uh, not.

FYI the C&D instrumented test documented the TSX top speed at 133 mph in both 5th and 6th gear.

Lest someone bring in "break-in" issues, it takes 16% more horsepower to go 140 mph than it does to go 133 mph, and 43% more power to go 150 mph than it does to go 133 mph.

Non-instrument/GPS verified top speed reports should be taken with a grain of salt because of speedometer error.

[EDIT]

One more thing - I suspect that the top speed is electronically limited to 133 since the max is the same in both 5th and 6th. There are 150 hp cars with higher C/D's that can go the same speed. I don't think 5th and 6th are so widely spaced that the car is simply unable to accelerate after the shift from 5th to 6th.

160KM/hr (100 miles) To afraid of tickets. But I did once bury the nedle on my 98 GS-R ,which I think was 240km (140ish mph) I was in 5th gear at about 7700RPM's on Hwy 407. I was young and stupid.

Well, I got news for you. When I tested the top speed, and got to 143mph, I shifted from 5th to 6th at 7400rpm, otherwise a few revs short of the rev limiter, and after having shifted to 6th, kept accelerating for another good 10-11 mph, and hit no speed governor whatsoever. And as I said the car was willing to accelerate more.

I don't know what your sources are, but they are wrong, we don't hit the speed governor in both 5th and 6th, and I haven't hit it in 6th either. Plus, I went a good 10 mph faster than you claim the TSX capable of, plus I have already tested the accuracy of my speedo on a police radar, and it shows 1% slower than the car's actual speed.

Edit: a car that isn't broken in isn't going to yield any good top speed. I don't know why, it's just the way it is. I remember having tried to top out my Peugeot 106 1.6Diesel, and the first attempt while breaking in yielded me 150kph. Second attempt, 160kph, and third attempt, I drove it up to 185kph. My Renault Clio, same thing. First attempt, 200kph, and second attempt, 215kph. Good times...

Just quoting the Car And Driver article (which is on this forum somewhere) but you can also go read it right here:

http://www.caranddriver.com/article....&page_number=3

C/D TEST RESULTS

ACCELERATION (Seconds)

Zero to 30 mph: 2.5
40 mph: 3.9
50 mph: 5.5
60 mph: 7.2
70 mph: 9.5
80 mph: 11.8
90 mph: 15.3
100 mph: 19.0
110 mph: 24.4
120 mph: 34.0
Street start, 5–60 mph: 7.7
Top-gear acceleration, 30—50 mph: 10.2
50—70 mph: 9.7
Standing 1/4-mile: 15.6 sec @ 91 mph
Top speed (drag limited): 133 mph

Speedometer error is not necessarily linear. I don't trust any speedometer reading that isn't actually instrument verified at the actual speed in question.

I've had mine up into the 120mph neighborhood going up through Tennessee once. The fastest I've ever been was 152 mph in my 1990 Ford Thunderbird SC. That thing had amazing top-end.

With all due respect...I would have to agree with rb1. I currently do not have a TSX, but my past experience with exhibition of speed has not been a good one.

The fastest I've gone was 142mph in a 94' Acura Legend GS/230hp. I was living in Las Vegas at the time and received a phone call at 7am from a friend who was visiting Vegas and left early that morning. His phone stated that his girlfriend and him was just in an accident, because the girlfriend fell asleep at the wheel. She had chipped a good chunk of bone off her pelvis and he suffered a shoulder sprain. So, out of concern I left like a bat out of hell and was going about 120mph from the out-skirts of Vegas to Prim (Stateline). By the time I got there, they were gone so I got more concern and started to head back into the city.

I was new to Las Vegas and didn't want to get lost trying to find out which hospital they were being transported to, so I rushed even more. Well, going through Jean County and coming down a slight hill, I saw a Nevada Highway Patrol. At the time I was going (according to my speedometer) 142mph. After seeing the Highway Patrol off in the distance, I slammed on the brakes and slowed down to about 85mph (it wasn't a very smooth transition). After passing the Highway patrol, he pulled out and pulled me over. He asked "Do you know how fast you were going?", and I stated 85mph. He said "...we clocked you at 137mph". I argued and said that my speedometer read 85mph. He laughed and said, "yeah, that's what you were going when you saw me, but the aircraft clocked you...not me".

To make a long story short, it was a $600 ticket and 8 demerit points on my driving record. I went to traffic school and surprisingly they took all 8 points off after I paid the full amount.

Word to the wise, for those living in California, don't get caught going faster than 97mph. The officer has the obligation of taking you in at that speed, unless you have a REALLY good story.

Sorry for the long post...just thought I would share my experience. And don't always believe your speedometer after it passes 110mph. Like I said early I agree with rb1 on his statements.

129 mph (GPS confirmed). Though it was willing to go more, it did take a while to get from 125 to 129. I didn't want to travel another 1+ miles in 30 seconds to push it farther than that.

If C/D's top speed is 133mph drag-limited, then sauceman's 143 must have been downhill with a tailwind!

I just don't know how to figure sauceman's account. For example, he claims to have done the 5-6 shift at 7400 RPM, but this is already 142 mph based on the Car And Driver figures of 6950 RPM @ 133 mph. Then (according to his account) he accelerated another another 10 mph *after* the shift.

I hear you, brother. I do that route on my way to TO and they're frequently under the overpasses. $245+... Ouch. On route to TO, its more fun to take HWY 7 and pass all the campers...

Well, I'm leaving for NC tonight, but once I am back, I'll try and see if I can get my car tested at the Transport Canada test track in Blainville, and will try and get an official speed for you folks. I know we have a member here that lives close by. I don't remember who he is, but if you're reading this post, can you tell me where it is, and maybe we could even go together to validate the test.

But I am dead sure that C&D is way out in the left field with this one. Our 95EX Accords were drag limited at 135mph, with 55 less horsepower, and a lot less work done on the aerodynamics (the back bumper is basically a parachute). I cannot see why I would be wrong about the 143mph. The TSX is really sleek, and as I said in my fuel economy thread, it does make a good difference at 55mph, so that difference must increase exponentially.

BTW, fdl, haha, one must have his own little guilty pleasures at times, heheheh

Well, the power required to overcome drag increases as the cube of your speed, so yes this is indeed the case.

In theory, a 150 hp car can go 135 mph provided that (1) its drag coefficient is not too high and (2) the gearing must allow the car to be close to the HP peak at the same time its near the top speed.

The 2001 Jetta 1.8T is an example of this (top speed 134 mph @ 5800 RPM, 150 hp @ 5700 RPM), so I'd certainly believe a 155 hp Accord could do the same although I don't have the gearing numbers. (I'm very skeptical that 135 hp car can go much this fast, though)

I note that in Car And Driver testing, they shifted 5-6 earlier so they ended up before the VTEC switchover. By exceeding your redline in 5th you ended up after VTEC switchover in 6th and maybe this made the difference.

that's an interesting find rb1. That vtec dip is particulary nasty and that could make the difference.

I think you have hit it right on. I remember a few weeks ago having tried, and I had shifted into 6th at 6800rpm, and the car had literally died on me. Only a small slope had helped me get to 220kph, but otherwise I would have stayed around 212kph.

And I remember having thought, "boy, if I am ever to make it any faster, I got to shift at cutoff in order to end up in 6th as close possible to 6000rpm". That's what I did this week, and the car not quite died on me this time, and gave me more acceleration.

But I will try and validate this at the Blainville track.

I was gunned at 213Km/h by a cop (a friend of mine) last week going up north to Saint-Sauveur. Don't know if the car could have gone faster...

And for the record, the fastest I've gone was 260Km/h on Cote-de-Liesse driving a Comptech supercharged NSX. I don't know if the speedo was acurate or not but I can say that it was pretty fast...

Edit: Not sure of the NSX year. One of my friend is a car broker. He brought the NSX to my place. He had it for a week (bought it from a guy in the states to re-sell it back short after). That was 2 years ago.

The fastest I've been and these are all non-TSX speeds is around 190kph in an accord.

My Dad claims to have gone 165-170MPH in a '65 Jaguar sometime in the 1970's.

I really wouldn't go any faster than the posted speed limits on the freeway (most of the time I obey all laws) and it works out best for me. I have gone 110 on the freeway though. Had to do it once.

My question: Are there any offical places for people to race their cars without breaking the LAW? I don't know of any.
