Questions: looking at '07 TSX nav from private owner

I'm looking at a 2007 TSX navi tonight after work, and I wanted to get some ideas of what to look for in particular to TSX's. It's a 1 private-owner car with a clean carfax report. I'm not too familiar with the 1st Gen TSX's, so I don't know what problem areas or hints to look for.

I know enough to look at body-panel seams, paint spray, etc...for previously unreported accidents, but what else might be unique to the TSX that I might not be aware of? Are there any TSb's that I should ask about, or anything like that? Thanks.

I would also get an Auto Check report on the vehicle. Carfax does not always pick up everything.

I have an 05 and an 07 (103K miles on the 05, 65K on the 07)(both auto) and they're pretty much bulletproof. You may find complaints here about the OE battery, and warped rotors are not uncommon, but nothing serious. The first gen is a great car; remains to be seen if the present car (09 and forward) follows through. The law of averages dictates that you can't please all of the people all of the time, and you'll find all kinds of stories here, but overall........ a superior automobile.

Look for vibrating brake rotors and cracked foglights. They are common problems in 1st gen TSX. Both you can repair yourself or at dealership

Just remember that no reporting agency (like carfax, or the above mentioned auto check) can report anything that wasn't reported to it. The vehicle could have easily been in a wreck, repaired, and it not show up on any reports. Give it a good look and if you don't find any signs of a wreck, you're ok. If it was wrecked and you don't find any signs, it was very likely repaired well which means you won't have any issues with it above the normal vehicle issues.

Make sure you drive it around at highway speeds. It should have a slight pull to the right when you let go of the wheel because of the road's crown (assuming you're on the right side of the road), but you shouldn't notice a pull that can't be corrected easily with just one finger on the wheel.

I would make sure all routine maint was done (cabin filter, oil changes, tire rotations, etc..). Check for aftermarket parts and if they were installed correctly (intake, exhaust, suspension, correct tire/rim size, etc.. I would also make sure I had two sets of keys and the spare valet key. Make sure you have the radio and the Navi code for vehicle. I had to use my Navi code several times on my 06 TSX.

You might have to update the Navi disk this fall also because depending on when the car was made. The Navi disk could have been burned from the previous year if the car was manufactured before the fall of 2007. If you have a Navi disk from 2006, it might not have the new daylight savings schedule (have to change your time manually).

The only problems I’ve had with my 06 TSX w/ +50,000 miles was a bouncy hood (fix under warranty), lost the Navi code several times, slight squeak in the steering wheel at its limits and the rear brake pads wearing out at around 40,000 miles.

Thank you for all the responses. I did drive it last night and it was a nice car. The exterior wasn't as clean as I would have liked, but overall it was a solid car...drove over bumps with NO rattles or vibrations. And it is priced fairly, too. As all of your advice stated, I looked at the fogs lights, found no vibrations when braking hard, the maintenance had been done, etc...

Now if I could only sell my TL, then I'd be in business. I had a buyer lined up and they backed out this morning, so I am back to square #1. Oh well....at least I know that I would be happy with a TSX. Thanks.

Why the miss from a 3G TL to a 1G TSX? Just curious..I take it you're taking a considerable hit.

I settled on my '08 TL last year after being unable to find a local type-S that I was happy with for the price I wanted to pay. I thought that a regular TL w/ nav would be sufficient. Well, I was wrong. IDK if the changes they made to the '07 & '08's made the steering & suspension different, but the steering just feels numb to me and the handling feels sloppy when pushed. I've never been impressed by the brakes...they do not stop the car very well under hard braking. And it's not like I'm racing the car or anything either...

Also, I have issues with some other things as well. The ergonomics of the dash continue to frustrate me. I always find myself reaching for a certain button and hitting the wrong one or having to look down 2x to find the right one. I guess I've never become comfortable with the layout of the center stack.

So with those complaints, I've found that the 1Gen TSX's have less centerstack buttons, more road feel in the steering wheel, are fun to drive, and still have the acura luxury features that I expect. I also believe that I can sell my TL and have some nice cash leftover after buying an '07/08 TSX with nav. Make sense?
