Navi DVD and software is updated!!!

Wow - I saw a post where someone who recently got their car had the following Navigation versions:

Navi info: Database version 20030902
Software: ver 1.0900

My car (bought at the end of August) had the Database of the DVD as 20020930 and the software was 1.003

Does anyone know how you can get updated DVD and more importantly, how can you update the actual software of the Navigation system itself!?

Any dealers/Acura techs know the procedure to get the nav system updated?

Also, I plan on going to the dealer to see how I can get an updated DVD. Maybe the software automatically updates from the new DVD?!

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!

Try this:

To determine what the newest DVD software version is available, call toll free at (888) 549-3798 or
here. Although the site appears to have old info, but this is the only place in the Acura Owner's site that has DVD ordering info...I'd try the phone # first...

I found out some interesting info. If you have the latest DVD, it SUPPOSEDLY will update the software of the Nav to 1.009 - So if you can get a hold of the new Nav DVD you can insert it before you start the car and it SHOULD update the Nav system software. Then when you shut down the car, even if you restart with your "old" DVD, it will keep the latest update.

Anyone feel like making a DVD copy of their new 20030902 DVD?!

It's true! If you get the newer DVD and just start your car with it in the DVD drive (in the trunk) your OS will be updated to the latest. Even when you go back to the old DVD, the OS remains updated. 1.09 supposedly fixes some bugs, makes some speed improvements and some GUI refinements. I want! I want!

Hehe, sorry to make you guys jealous, but I'm the one with the updated DVD navigation.

Pictures to proof are here:

Makes me glad I waited for this car. I'd like to help you guys out, but does anybody know of a way now to copy a dual-layer DVD?

Nope. Until they come out with dual-layer recordable DVD's it can't be done. On the old version of the NAV DVD it was over 5GB which would not fit on a recordable DVD.

I am going to contact my salesman and see if he can get me a copy of it.

By this time next year, you should start seeing $200 dual layer capable DVD recorders.

My DVD+/-RW is working great, but yes, only single layer (DVDShrink RULES).

Yeah, me too. I just picked up my TSX last week. I feel I'm entitled to a free software upgrade.

I'll be really mad if they fight me on this.

Yip! -- There it is!

BTW it's not the orange Aladdin's lamp/oil pan thing up top, it's down below -- shows up more as yellow in this pic.

You know, it also looks kinda like the Chevy insig.

Can anyone confirm that the upgrade is actually available? And if so, who specifically should one call. I know about the phone # on the website, but they have a recording that says, basically, "If you have a 2004 Acura you already have the newest DVD".

The reason I ask is that our dealer has said they'll get us the new DVD gratis if we can just point 'em in the right direction. Their parts guy says he's called everyone he knows and they've told him that the new DVD isn't out yet.

Which, of course, begs the issue of the pix that clearly confirm the existance of a new DVD. I don't doubt that it's real, but the dealer's parts guy really seems keen on getting the new DVD himself and I don't think he's giving us the run-around and he can't find anything about the new DVD.

So anyone have any concrete leads on the new DVD being available?

Vale,

JohnS

While the newest DVD Nav software is out, it might only be "available" as a factory installed DVD, but not available for the end-user to grab from Honda. I don't think Honda wants to have navi owners to update the software year-round, and probably has an annually "update" period where they will have the latest DVD software available.

Did you guys notice that the location of the directional icon has changed? On my car (which has version 1.000), the North arrow is in the upper right hand corner on the screen. I notice that, in version 1.09, the arrow is move to the left corner of the screen.

I wonder what the other GUI differences are?

That's true. Yeah articcl9, more nav pics would be great. While upgrading from 1.0 might be worth it (for the freeze issue), going from 1.030 might not be..

I also don't remember the software version page listing the database area. I think mine just says the DVD date and Nav version.

As george mentioned, the audio screens are different.

Trip Computer: The reset button on the trip computer is under the yes/no on 1.030 and the `history` button is called `previous`. I'm not sure if this means that more history is stored, or if they just wanted to call it something different. (I bet they moved the reset button since it was so close to the others. Maybe to avoid accidental reset.)

Setup page 1: The display buttons are 2x2 instead of 1x4
Setup page 3: The background color choices are listed in another menu and I think the order is slightly different.
Setup page 4: oh yeah. The first 3 items are on page 2 or 3. I guess they needed more room for the 2x2 display and color options.

Is it just me or anyone else still prefer the older GUI for the Radio and CDs?

I keep thinking Macs when I see those "buttons" on the new GUI for those screens...don't know why.

Andy, Could you eject the disk from the drive in your trunk and post the version number written on the disk?

I'm having problems getting Acura to even admit this version exists, much less provide any customer support. It seems your car and mine were shipped within days of each other. I got the old disk and you got the new one.

I have the same thought as MSB 128. The new display looks pretty bland compare to the old version. Is that the only changes there?

I'm assuming that since the database is a year newer, it will have updated road and POI information. That's what I'm mostly concerned with.

Anyway, I'm still trying to get someone in Acura to admit there is an upgrade disk.

We've been trying to do exactly the same thing! We even got our dealer's parts guy to say he'd pay for the new DVD if we can just show him where he can get it!

So does anyone know how on earth someone ended up with a DVD that Acura seems to deny exists?

I made some progress today. I called the DVD upgrade center (whatever it's called). They asked me what version is on my DVD (it's 3.20a). They indicated a new version (3.30) is "on their chart". They weren't specific about what that meant, but it still had a TBD date for distribution.

As far as whether I'd be eligible for a gratis upgrade because I missed the shipping date by a couple of days, it's looking bad. Neither my dealer or Acura Client Services feels I have any valid argument for the upgrade. I'm preparing for my letter writing campaign.

Like others here, I got my dealer to promise to reimburse me for an upgrade...just can't find the upgrade to buy.

So...did anyone actually check to see if the software version 1.003 disk and the version 1.009 disk were actually labeled differently (when ejected from the system)? I assume its a safe guess that neither of these are the version 2.11b disk that is available from a local dealer (and that version number applies to the older non-voice system disk).

DVD Ver 3.30F

My car, purchased in November, came with DVD version 3.20A. The customer service person at the Acura phone line, 888.549.3798, said the newest version available for the TXS was DVD version 3.30F.

The Navigation Manual, that came with my TSX, on page 62 under the System Set-up System Infomation page has a screen cap that shows database version 20030623 and software version 1.0630 (both newer than the 2002 db and 1.03XX software).

Does anyone have the newer DVD and/or software/DB version?

Is it worth the $185 to upgrade?

I just called the same line and the woman said that the latest version was 3.11C which began shipping in November but was pulled back due to compatibility issues. She said that they will begin shipping that version again in February.

So, I bought my TSX on 12/30/03 and it came with the 20020930 version (not sure of the DVD version #.)

Anyone think I have a case for the dealership to upgrade my DVD for free?

That's between you and your dealer. When I asked my dealer's sales manager for a free upgrade, he behaved like I raped his crippled grandmother. I can't remember being treated more poorly.

How do you know that if you go back to the old version of the NAV DVD the base operating system will not be downgraded???

It's definitely true. When you put a DVD in with the newer version of the "OS" (I'm calling it the OS for the sake of simplicity), it updates the HARDWARE in your car to the latest version. Then even if you put in an "older" DVD with an "older" version of the OS, it retains the update.

Looks like they updated the software again. Version 3.40B (The Fall 2004 update) is the latest according to their site here...

https://iweb.alpine-usa.com/Acuradvdsales/naviorder.php

The version that came with my 2004 TSX when I got it in April 2003 was version 3.20 (Fall 2002 Update). I currently have version 3.30F which was the Fall 2003 update. I will probably sell that one on eBay if I decide to buy the Fall 2004 version. I haven't decided since they are pretty expensive at $185 plus shipping.

When they went from 3.20 to 3.30F they changed the look at the CD/RADIO interface as well as a few other things. I wonder if they added anything else new?

I'll have to let you know when my 2005 gets here, but I would assume one of the changes is the integrated XM radio support.
