Its because if your Back.bmp is larger then the origional it'll attempt to compress it, which takes time for your car to uncompress.

is it the exact same size? Make sure the sizes are the same, although I believe bysin said his new version of dumpnavi can handle files a little bigger than the original.

Some programs encode the bitmap differently, even though its the same size/resolution, it might be off by ~300 bytes.

The new GUI version that bysin made makes it VERY easy to change your background image. You should try it out, i'm sure someone here can help you out if you get stuck.

Very nice one!

I see people are not "aspect correcting" the images though. So this image will be slightly tall looking when displayed onto the navi screen.

Oops, I missed your original thread. However, it appears as though the aspect ratio is correct, it's just that the nav system doesn't use square pixels, correct?

There may be some constraints around it though. I suspect you'll have to keep it the same size (i.e. number of characters); may have to use filler empty characters. There most likely isn't any crcs or anything like that though. Should be simple enough to try.

BigWillieStyle, who wishes he had extra time to play with this stuff.

iceman,

It could be because your emulator is for another Windows CE platform such as ARM... you'd need an emulator that can emulate the SH4 processor used in our navi system.
