I'm shopping for this exact car -- CG/Non-Navi/5AT -- and I've gotten several online quotes at $26,500... Don't know yet how much that can come down, but I doubt it will be anywhere near $24,691!

What's the special technique?

Sorry i took so long to write this but here is my responce

Here is what my friend asked me to do.

First go in the dealership with a dumb piece of paper with 3 to 4 cars your willing to buy that are cheaper than the tsx.

here is my list i had on my scrap piece of paper.
************************************************

1st choice Acura TSX -
MSRP- $27,035
------------------------------------
2nd chioce Honda Accord LX-
MSRP- $23,300
+ destination charge $490
-------------------------------------
=23,790

3rd 4cyl Honda Accord-
MSRP- $20,500
+ destination charge $490
-------------------------------------
=20,990

4th Civic EX Coupe
MSRP- $18320
************************************************
FROM HERE ON I"LL EXPLAIN WHAT I DID:

Now, with that list i went into the dealership with the list allways in my hands. So when the first salesman walked up to me and asked if i wanted to test drive the all new tsx i said "NO", then i said "i know about that car, i drove it before and all i want to do is talk numbers about the tsx. So he said "OK". Then he lead me to his sales manager. So, i walked up to his sales manager and introduced myself and began explaining what ""EXACTLY "" I wanted and if he had it on the lot and after 10 sec's the sales manager said "yes". So i told him i didn't want to spend no more than 24,500 and not a penny more . So then he gave me crap about how he couldn't do that and how these cars are in high demand and i said " i don't care about that ". He looked at me stunned and asked "up to how much are you willing to spend?" I said again " NO MORE THAN 24,500 and not a penny more". So he explain how he would need more money to clean the car and prepare it for me. I again said "I don't really care about that", "I'm here today to buy a car no matter which dealer it comes from". Then i told him "listen i have a awesome blah, blah, blah, car that runs like new and I'm in no need to buy a car but i think i'm in need of a new car ", " So take the offer or if not don't waste my time". "I'm here to spend this much amount and if you can't make a deal i'll go to the next dealer and buy something else on my list with the same things you offer and have extra money left over". He then asked me to show him the list i had. So then he took it to his manager or whatever and came back 10 minutes later and said you have a deal. He then wrote me up for the price i asked plus the destination charge it came out to 24,691.

Oh sorry i didn't understand what you meant. After Tax & finance charges i got it for 30,563 with a 5.7 finance charge from honda credit . That was with a 2,000 downpayment i didn't have to give. I also go the windows etched for thief. that brought the final price up to were it is now.

Actually Kenny, its a little too late, I just bought one from Curry Acura in Scarsdale, NY. I am actually picking it up on Thursday weather permitting. I just saw how you got that awesome deal and I was a little pissed, from what I heard my deal was pretty solid. I am going to wind up paying about $25,000. I searched all over for that deal and it was hard to get, you def did a good job, Congrats though, that was the best deal I have heard about in the Tri-State area.

Question for Klisp

Hey Klisp ~

What is your tax percentage in NJ?

How many years are you financing at 5.7%?

Just curious...

And I don't know what you mean by "That was with a $2,000 downpayment I didn't have to give" ~ what do you mean by that? How was that worked into the figures?

thanks!

(What i meant was, i had good credit and didn't need a downpayment if i didn't want to. But i gave 2,000$ to lower my monthly payment.)

How was that worked into the figures?
(I just gave 2,000$ to lower the monthly down alittle)

thanks!

Klisp.. Your out of the door total seems pretty high!!! I bought mine in July, where you'd assume that the car was in higher demand (may be not) for $25200. Mine is PWP/auto/non-navi and I am in Houston.

My out of the door price was $27025. This includes 6.25% sales taxes, title, license and $50 documentation fee.

So how did you reach above $30k for yout total. I assume that includes your loan interest. I got 3.54% for 60 months through Honda Finance.

Hey Alex ~

I am "thinking" that Klisp got to $30,563 including the 6% tax, license/documentation fee & the 5.7% finance charges for 60 months, but I'll let him confirm.

Alot of people on the board don't provide the amount they end up paying at the very end after financing, which isn't usual anyways. I'm more interested in OUT THE DOOR price and what is included.

Hey everyone,

I just bought a TSX this week....CG/Quartz/Navi/AT

Ended up paying $30,300 out the door. No finance cause I am paying cash. Hope that helps. Agreed amount was $27,600 before tax, title and license with all season mats and wheel locks.

That's actually a better deal than it sounds, because he's including the hefty NY/NYC tax in his number. He got almost $900 off MSRP.

Well your right i did get slapped with a 6% sales tax and 5.7% finance charges though honda credit plus the etching option on the windows so that's why i got up there to 30K.

Wow thats a great deal you got. I will say you definatly could have gotten that interest rate lower if you had "excellent credit" (740+) like you said you do. I used to sell cars so I know. You wanna go buy a car, best time is in the evening when its bitter cold outside on like a wednesday. If the dealer hasnt sold too many cars that week they'll damn near sell anything for invoice just to have some respectable unit figures for the end of the month.

any dealer can cut you a low out the door price and then "screw" you on the financing.

for example say the dealer buys his finance from Honda at 3.7% (a pretty standard rate right now)

say you get the car for 24500 (a smokin deal) and then pay 6% tax - so you end up financing 25970, 5 years @3.7% means $2902 in finance charges (simple interest)

say instead the dealer quotes you a 5.7% rate (i.e. a 2% spread for his trouble) your finance charges are $4292. You got a wonderful out the door and the dealer collected an additional $1392 from you on the finance - nice work :-)

way back in '99, i did some consulting for a major bank owned auto finance shop - all of these businesses give the dealer a sell rate (i the rate they offer the dealer on a given customer) - the dealer always has the option to add a spread to the finance (normally limited to 5-7%) so that he doesn't really _screw_ someone.

The difference is calculated, present valued, and paid to the dealer upfront in cash! A nice business. Known as a "dealer reserve" the dealer keeps this as long as the loan is not prepaid by the customer in under 6 months.

the net net - dealers make money on selling cars and selling loans - the only way to compare different offers is to look at the total cost to you.

peace out

A

so is it possible to get a great deal, ie: $1,500 off msrp, if you pay full in cash. Not allowing the dealer to make money off financing or trade in

Yes, its possible. Your chances are better if the dealer has the car in inventory (either the options you want or the options you're willing to take) and its getting towards the end of the month. My suggestion is you either check local dealer invontory using their website, e-mail them, or call them directly. Then on about the 26th or 27th of the month go to the one you want, tell them you WILL buy the car RIGHT NOW if they will sell it to you for $xxxx.

i understand that dealers do get a special % bonus if they move a car within it's first month on the lot - therefore it does sound like there is a solid opportunity to negotiate on a particular car.

in the seattle area there are very very few 6MTs on the lot - i found it tough to negotiate. the best i could do was $26,200 as i needed to order and wait 2 months. supply and demand, no one cuts you a deal on a car that has a 2 month wait - $800 under MSRP was the best i could do.

I am sure that with some savvy negotiating you could do a least 50% to 100% better on a 5AT - maybe $1200 to $1600 off.

Coming from the UK i have driven manuals (or sticks as you guys call em) all my life - 7100rpm and relatively little torque begs for a manual. Autos work best with limitless low end torque - big lazy V8s.

peace out

hey guys, i finally got my tsx a few days ago. i wound up paying 2k less than msrp. i did however get the winter mats, spash guards, and wheel locks thrown in for free. I saw that kenny (the guy who started this thread) got his tsx for about 500 less than me so i was a little upset. So, then i called wayne acura where kenny got his and used them as leverage, they were willing to go like 300 below my dealer, i had no intenion of going to jersey especially since i was suppose to pick up the car in 6hrs. i called my dealer told him i got a better deal elsewhere and he said what do you want, being in new york and with all the snow we have been having i just wanted the mats, being greedy i asked for the whole sport package and 5 minutes later i got a call back saying they could do that. i knew he was going to do it, it was the end of the month and they already had the car detailed, they had no other choice.

so, my advice is to shop around, find the best deal you can,you can even go as far as giving the deposit they can always refund it (make sure you use a credit card, its easier to refund) then after you make the deal, call a few other dealers, don't waste your time going to visit, tell them what your deal is and ask if they can beat it, odds are they can. Finally, go back to your dealer and let them know of your better deal, tell them some bullshit that you really want the car from them but you don't want to short change yourself, while they might not budge on the price, i am sure they will throw in some extras

after 3 days with the car i am in love, its great, i have been all smiles since i got it

that approach works if you have a dealer with the car sitting on the lot. not if you have to order and wait two months :-)

did you buy an AT?

Is there a way to get a lower price once you put the down payment on the car? Is there a way I can back out the deal?

Acura Pricing

I dont know if that deal is as good as you think.

I am a car salesman and the state I live in its against the law to sell window etch. It is a scam.

They sell you that to make up for the discount. Also if you financed the vehicle they may have made "back end" finance profit as well.

I purchased my TSX from a local dealer for $25,035.00 cash + tax.
I found that in larger markets (New York, Chicago) they will discount vehicles more than others just tell them you can get $2k off from a local dealer "can you beat that or match it with an in stock vehicle??"

The cheapest new Acuras I have found are from Curry Acura in New York. They discount huge$$$ TL's & TSX's
