The HT-Spec TSX Gets A The Power Steering Hose Recall Done!

Here is a snippet for you.

Here is a down-loadable PDF of the service bulletin regarding this recall. Read it. Seems simple. Pay particular attention to the stuff about draining the fluid and then refilling with new fluid.

Here we are sitting in the service drive entrance. You are right to think that the HT-Spec TSX was most likely the best looking car to roll through on this particular day. Expecting of course and NSXs that might have strolled through.

The best place to do last minute DIYs is the service drive of your local Acura dealer.

I like to take a little time at this stage of any labor job I like to take a look at the effected areas of the work. In this case, the high-pressure power steering hose runs in between the Alutec Tower Brace and the Fastline Performance Carbon Spark Plug Cover. I decided it was best to remove them before releasing my ride to the dealership in an effort not to tempt fate and risk damage to over $300 in HT-Spec parts.

FYI my dealership pulled the same crap with the PS fluid and the recommendation that it be "flushed" because it's dirty. How the hell is it dirty if you just replaced it all in the recall work? Which time were you lying dealership? EIther you swapped it all out and are lying telling me it's now dirty or you lied when you said you did the recall service correctly and replaced the 2 "units" of PS fluid. BTW. how much total PS fluid should the car take, assuming it's empty? 2, Or more?

Same here too, I hated my local stealer; that's y I took my car to a dealer about 30 miles away from my house to get all the services done there. Last time I dropped off my car at the local stealer (where I bought the car from) to get some interior parts replaced and they f***k it up.

It probably should only take 2 bottles if that is what is billed out. I am going to do a DIY soon to verify.

I had the ps recall work done yesterday. I swear they used zipties on the new hose that connects towards the back of the engine. Those clamps look different than the ones I have in my car.

Any stealership that recommends a PS fluid change, let alone a flush, is ROBBING you. As per the engineers who designed the car, the PS fluid is a LIFETIME fluid. Now I don't believe in lifetime fluids for anything, so I changed mine myself a few months ago (160,000km / 100,000 miles). Its not hard, I believe it took 2.5 bottles (buy 3 to be sure, bring one back if you don't need it). You will want to have some kind of hose and clamp to extend the return hose into a suitable container.

The steps are simple:
1. Disconnect return (top) hose. Extend it with a hose + clamp, into a glass or suitable jar.
2. Turn on car.
3. Turn steering wheel lock-to-lock a few times.
4. Check fluid level in reservoir - top up now.
Repeat 3 and 4 until the fluid coming out of the return hose is off-clear (very slight yellow colour, almost clear). This is where a small container helps as it lets you see the colour of the fluid coming out before it gets mixed with all of the other old fluid.
5. Once fluid is satisfactorily fresh, reconnect return hose to reservoir. Top up fluid to MAX level.
6. Replace reservoir cap, grab a beer, drink.

Yep. There are zip ties on mine. It doesn't look like one full hose as in marcus' pictures. My rubber hose is cut in two in the middle and there's a clamp that's attached there. The middle sections of the rubber hose have zip ties presumably to keep them on. Anyone else's look like this? I'll post pics soon.

I also saw zip ties on my hose too....whew, I thought it was just my dealership that was cheap. So I guess it's normal.

Here are some pictures of my recall job. Marcus' probably looked different as a result of some mods I have no idea. I may start a new thread if I don't get many responses. Does your car look like this as well?

Could be the same dealership. I went to Acura Kearny Mesa.

??? Our hoses are the same. There is no cut in the tube dude It looks like like the plastic sheath around the hose was trimmed back on your car for some reason. Probably because the mechanic realizes it doesn't need to be there.

Yep, the pics you posted up is exactly how mine looks like. I went to a different dealership though. I just thought it was weird for them to use zip ties.

That is the ugliest mess - Honda should be ashamed. I'll just leave mine as is and take my chances. The next owner can deal with it instead.

It looks like their band-aid fix is to sleeve the new hose so that when it fails, the sleeve diverts the fluid away from the exhaust manifold so your used-to-be nice TSX does not go up in flames. I'm underwhelmed.

I try to get the service on my 06 tsx done when I am in NJ (the dealer is in Pa-125 miles). I go to the one near me for the annual state inspection and when I need the cars oil changed and can not make it to Pa. (Not into doing any car maintenance). I had the oil changed a few days ago in NC. They mentioned the power steering recall and then advised the car needed the Power steering flush. I declined both.
