Hmm, no navi for me?
All said and done, looks like I'd have to be putting out close to 29k for a TSX with the navigational system. I can afford it, but I don't know if I want to pay that much (especially if/when I being looking for a house). I could get the Honda Accord EX with the navi (non-V6) for about the same price, but it's just not the same.
Anyway, what are some viable aftermarket navigational systems? Would they generally be something that sits on the dash (or wherever) or could they be integrated? Or could I go back later and get the navigational system installed from the dealer?
I'm not a 'car guy' so use simple words.

The stock Nav system is excellent and it worths every penny.. no other aftermarket Nav system can match it. I think you should get the nav system when you buy your TSX since you are planning to get it sooner or later.

Yep.. and you can't get the Nav put in later.
If the timing works out at all for you, I'd say buy a house, then a car. That worked for me, and seemed to come up in the "how much is too much to spend on a car?" thread.

An Accord EX four banger with Navi costs about the same as a TSX with Navi????
If Navi means that much to you, then by all means have fun and get it.
I didn't get Navi, but I have other things I would rather do with the 2 grand difference.

Oops, nope. Accord is around the same as the TSX without the navigational system.

I didn't plan to get the navi at first. I thought I would rather save the $2000. However, I eventually got the navi when buying TSX and now I cannot live without it. You will be surprised of how often you will need your navi to save you from getting lost. Also, the navi in the TSX is the best in the market and it does more than the typical navi plus it has built in voice recognition ability. Technology rocks!

The issue with me isn't the initial cost, it's that I tend to drive cars until they're "fully depreciated". Bob Shiftright's First Law of Automotive Excellence is: "If it's not on the car in the first place, it can't ever break."
So after 8 years and 150,000 miles a dead black screen in the middle of the dashboard would tend to annoy me, not to mention be a deal killer when the time came to get rid of the car. I'm not saying that the navigation system would necessarily break, just that mine can't because I didn't order it in the first place.
If I leased a car or planned to trade every 3 years, and it were covered by the factory warranty, I would certainly order the factory navigation system.
But since I didn't I thought this gizmo was kinda nice, the Garmin iQue.

So far I'm still making due with paper maps.

Not an Ashtray
That particular gadget is like $500, and it is not particularly good. It is a Palm OS unit after all, and slow as all get out. Even if you do decide not to get NAV, there are better options then this.

I found something by Magellan that's being used by Hertz rental cars. It's $1000 and portable.
I think it'll all come down to what APR I get on the financing.

I would go for Navi in no time if it's available in Canada. :P
You may also mod the Navi to make it a DVD player which is way better than the drop down DVD player IMO.
