GSM Phone Interferes with Stereo

GSM Phone Interferes with Stereo
If I mount my GSM phone (Cingular Treo 650) too close to the head unit, I get interference when it is polling for email. I can mount the phone lower and further away which reduces this interference substantially, but it is not the most convenient place for the phone. Does this happen to others? Can anything be done to prevent it (other than buying a non-GSM phone)?

Is this what you hear?
I had interference and posted about it in Audio & Video. Is this the same thing?

Sure sounds like the same thing. I guess there's nothing to be done to combat this other than not keep the phone so close to the radio. Does this occur on other carriers, especially ones that use CDMA such as Sprint and Verizon?

You get that kind of interference all over the place. I get it in my office thru my computer speakers too. Nad if I use the iPod in the car it's way worse.

I think it depends on the device itself. I've had both a Treo and now currently a Blackberry and tend to get this type of interference. It also happens with older phones. I don't know the technical explanation, but it seems as if the signal broadcast/receive is stronger with PDA-type phones. I get all sorts of interference when I walk back unshielded computer speakers and phone head units.
Makes you kinda wonder how bad it can be if it's attached to your hip all day long.

It makes that sound when there's a call incoming or when the phone is looking for a network or is jumping to another antenna.
Drive around and you'll notice that at a specific area like a certain intersection, that noise always happens. It's because your cell phone is disconnections from one cell tower to another.
