And it is usually not legal for some reason, but, yes, I do agree it is much more comfortable this way when travelling long distances.

It used to be illegal here in Florida. (With all the beach sand, it could get slippery.)

But then somebody realized it helped keep people awake on longer trips. So now it's okay.

Who says you don't learn nothin' in court-mandated traffic school?

The posts so far in this thread lead me to believe that either you all are crazy, or else I am. It may well be the latter. Driving in bare feet - why the heck would you want to do that? It stikes me as perhaps unsafe and certainly unhygenic. Ugh. No thanks.

PS - Maybe it's the fact that where I live we have this thing called winter.

Well, dude, it's not that you're crazy or that we are, it's probably that you've never driven long distances bare-footed. BTW, by barefooted it can also mean you keep your socks.

And unhygienic? Well it depends, but I vac my car each week so the mats don't get dirty. And during wintertime, well it gets kinda harder to do too...

Oh, and that makes me think, look at the race car drivers, what kind of shoes they have. They look almost like small children's pyjama slippers. Very thin. You get a good feeling of the throttle and brake.

A brief Google search suggests that the "driving barefoot is illegal" stories are an "urban legend" and have been completely debunked.

(e.g. driving a car barefoot appears to be legal in all 50 U.S. States).

Of course, if someone has a firm cite that says othewise...
