Man, what a thread resurrection! Anywho, I get to drive both...2001.5 Passat V6 (stock) and an '04 TSX (mods). The VW ride is comfortable, it takes the lumps, bumps, and dips of the road very well. The power and torque are good, but I have to mash the pedal down to get it. But I prefer the TSX, cause it's more fun to drive.

The new one in this thread is pretty interesting, esp. w/ 300 hp 3.6L v6 FSI engine and 7 speed DSG.

I traded a 2001 Audi Quattro A4 for my TSX. The Passat is the same car as the Audi. The Audi is a nice car to drive, I really enjoyed it. But the Audi was mechanically a POS! I paid $6k to get rid of the VW with 63k on the odo

A result of my wife and I getting married was inheriting the maintenance and headache of her Passat. Let me tell you first hand - You would have to be out of your mind to consider a Passat over a TSX. I like to do most maintenance on my cars, but the Passat, simply takes ALL the joy out of preforming car maintenance. Even a task as simple as replacing the air filter is a nightmare. The car is completely over engineered. The repair costs at dealers is astronomical for jobs you are forced to have done by people who are "trained" to work on thees over engineered automobiles. (And yes, I really shop around for the best prices when it comes to jobs I cant do myself.) Owning a Passat is no different from the upkeep of an Audi, without the prestige of the Audi emblem.

I could create quite a lengthy list of reasons not to purchase a Passat, but ill save that for a later day.

My best advice from first hand experience; Erase the consideration of ever purchasing a Passat....unless your considering the purchase of my wife's.
