Dealer did bad oil change
So Friday afternoon I got an oil change at the dealer. So when I got home then left to pick my sisters from school and came back I noticed oil in my garage were I park, so I was okay maybe it was left over oil. Then the next morning I back out and there was more oil. So I called up the dealer and was like yo there's oil leaking and he had the same assumption that I did that there was left over oil. Since I could not make it to the dealer on Saturday. I told him I would be in on Monday morning. The thing is I went to the 24 Hour Fitness Saturday night and once I parked I looked at my head lights and there was smoke coming from the hood, so i said i'm going to workout then call a buddy of mine for help. After my work out I look around the car there was oil everywhere on the parking lot. So my TSX was towed to the dealer and my Sunday sucked and I realized how much I needed a car. This morning I got a loaner car and I asked the service adviser what happen he said looks like the nut got striped and so i said your tech did not catch that. So if you were in my shoes what would you do? What should I expect from the dealer? Since I need new tires for my car you think the dealer would give to me for free? LOL

^^ Agree. I wouldn't expect them to comp you tires. Best you can hope for is for them to get the oil situation straight and fixed, and maybe evaluate for possible engine damage. Maybe have them run a diagnostic. But even if damage resulted, best case is they'd fix it. Dealers don't throw in new stuff unrelated to the issue they caused.

Good luck with the results, and remember to always fight back if you feel they are lying, or not disclosing something. Get what you want and what is still fair to both parties. Don't be a dick but also don't be a pushover.

This happened to me also. Fortunately it was a very small leak.
You would think the dealer is the best place to take it. That they, better than anyone else, know your car inside and out.
They should be better than Jiffy Lube damn it.
I don't know. Everytime I have someone change my oil i always check underneath after the job.

That's why I change my own oil. Nobody cares about my car more than me, so nobody will give it the attention I do. Everyone should know how to change the oil. If you know how, it doesn't take much longer than Jiffy Lube, and is far cheaper. Besides, if you work nights, you can change your own oil at 2am on your day off, but Jiffy Lube closes way before 2.

I am with you man. I have always changed my own oil. It gives me peace of mind that the oil level has not been overfilled, that it has been done correctly with the kind of oil and filter I want, and most of all that everything is done nice and clean.

So I pickup my car today. The dealer ran many different tests like diagnostic, oil pressure things that involve the engine. Everything checked out, the dealer even gave me a new battery I also asked for a tire rotate witch they did for no charge even though I would have paid for it. It seems like they felt sorry for me but I'm just happy my car is fine. I still don't know if I should have someone else check out the engine.

If it were me, I'd probably get a second opinion. Smoke coming from the engine bay is never a good sign. The dealer caused the problem and may be covering it up, so I don't think I'd trust them.

There's a very good chance the smoke you saw was from oil dripping onto an exhaust pipe. However, how it got from the drain plug area to an exhaust pipe is a bit of a mystery. Was there ANY signs of leaking from the filter, valve cover gasket, or anywhere else other than the drain plug? If it was ONLY from the drain plug, I'd think you'll be OK. If it was leaking from anywhere else, even a bit, I'd bring it elsewhere for a second opinion.

still plays with cars
Ask the dealer if there is a low oil or low oil pressure shutdown feature. My guess is the engine had enough oil left and was not damaged. Watch the engine oil consumption carefully for the next 1000 miles and be aware of any weird noises.

Summer is Coming
Some years ago I owned an Accord, my first car actually. I normally replaced my own oil but this time I let the dealer do it. I left minor drops of oil on the ground but I knew that when I chenged it myself oil can run from the filter and collect on the rim of the oil pan and drip for a period. Then next time I went to change the oil I got under the car and put my socket on the drain plug and it practiaclly fell out! Maybe 1 thread holding it in. It must not have been tightened and slowly worked itself out. Lucky I caught it when I did.
If there were still oil in the engine when you shut it down there is likely no damage. But I'd ask the dealer for an extended warrenty, at least on the engine, since I'm sure they are telling you there is nothing to worry about, let them put thier money where thier mouth is.
