Curious -What does "TSX" stand for....

is it an acronym for something, what about the rest of the models. Or is it just a bunch of letters someone at Acura pulls out of the air?

Has anyone ever asked, I searched but can't come up with anything.

I read somewhere that the '-SX' is used to denote sportier models, whereas, '-L' suffix refers to more luxury or cruising models. '-DX' is reserved for SUVs. I don't know where the 'T', 'R', or 'N' prefixes come from or mean.

"In 1989, Acura introduced the NSX, a midship V6 powered, rear-wheel-drive sports car. The NSX, an acronym for "New Sports eXperimental", was hailed as the first (and perhaps, to date, the only) Japanese car capable of competing with Ferrari and Porsche." (Wikipedia)

I think the rest are just random letters...

Total Sexual Xhilaration? Haha...but doesnt really seem to fit the TSX.

Well, RL stands for Road Luxury or Redesigned Legend, and TL stands for Touring Luxury. TSX has gotta stand for something.

T = touring

S = sports

R = racing

L = luxury

i remember when they had GT and LX mustangs - the gt stood for grand touring and the lx stood for luxery - had nothing to do with the actual engine (back in the 90s)

I think the name came before the stories, and that the tsx diaries "three lives, seven days, intersecting" was created using the letters from TSX...

Combining the above two, Touring Sports eXperimental would be my best guess. Seems like Honda diluted the "eXperimental" aspect when they introduced the RSX and then the TSX.

The name was derived from the "_SX" that Acura decided to follow after Honda's naming of the NSX. In my opinion, they are just choosing a combination of letters for names.

If TSX = Touring Sports Experimental, what is so experimental about it when the TSX is the Accord in Japan, and a best selling mid-sized family sedan in Australia?

And as for the RL, Racing Luxury.... where is the Racing?

Either way, Acura does get the naming right. When you look at the car, the TSX naming just fits in. Same for the TL, RL, MDX and RDX. Even the CL looked like a CL.

my best guess: read it on some magazine I forgot, but it was their guess too
CSX = Compact Sports eXp. - canada only
EL (no longer in production, canada only - Entry Luxury
RSX - racing sports eXp.
TL - Touring Luxury
RL - Refined Luxury
TSX - Touring Sports eX
CL - Coupe/Contemp. Luxury
NSX - already mentioned
MDX - sure it means sthg, not sure what though

Letters stand for something, its not just three letters that sound nice and Acura calls it a day.

LOL, nah, we don't get Acura in this part of the world. So I don't see TSX, RL, TL or CL at all on the street. So I'm not programmed yet.

Officially: nothing

The NSX, TL, RL and CL are the only acronyms that supposedly mean something.

if TSX does stand for something all i know is the X stand for experimental. i i believe honda marketing has dubbed the X as experimantal. like the CRX (my first 2 cars) stand for Civic Renaissance eXperimental.
