Crackling sound from engine when accelerating in 5th/6th at 2.7rpm.

today, when i was on the highway, i was in 5th gear and accelerated (not wide open throttle, but pushed the throttle little more to raise the rpm) at around 2.7k rpm, then i started hearing a crackling sound from the engine.

what could this sound be? could it be lugging? i thought it would be too high for lugging....it freaked me out. anybody have any idea?

i just came back from driving again, and it sounds like its coming from the left side of the engine bay, where my intake is....it kind of sounds like little plastic pieces vibrating...

Maybe something got sucked into the intake? Remove the airbox lid and the filter and see if you can see anything.
