Auto locking doors
I thought that it was pretty much industry standard to have your doors lock when shifting out of "park." I was surprised not to see how to change this setting in the TSX owner's manual. I guess it isn't that big a deal, but it is a nice feature to have- even my previous Toyota Camry was programmable. Anyone know if our Acura dealers can change our settings?

For those who have owned other Honda products before, do they autolock other vehicles?
I remember when I first saw this feature more than 10 years ago on a GM product. At that time, I thought it was another domestic manufacturer gimmick that wouldn't last...

The TSX is my second Acura and third Honda product and I've never had auto-locking doors.
Come to think of it, I've only ever seen this feature on domestic vehicles - never on any of the other imports I've driven (Toyotas, Mazdas, etc).

Audis have the capability as well, but the cars are sold with auto-locking turned off.
You can turn it on yourself (and vary the speed at which the doors lock) using a laptop and a piece of software called the VAG tool, or you can ask your dealer to do it for you (I believe Audi requires that dealers provide at least three changes to the auto-locking functionality at no charge).
Why VWs come with this feature on and Audis come with it off is a mystery to me.

Audi owners have grown-up kids. They don't need doors locked.
Stereotypes, of course.

Oh no, I am the only person that absolutely HATES the autolock feature! I owned a GM car for 7 years with autolock and it was the most annoying thing about the vehicle. Honda knew exactly what they were doing by not including this on the TSX, IMO.

I have this on my 1992 Accord. It doesn't happen when you hit a certain speed, but it locks all the doors as soon as I start the engine. Not sure if it is a programmable feature of the alarm, but the alarm was a factory install.

This is the one feature that I was surprised the TSX didn't have. I commute to work in a Windstar 7 passanger van and the van has this feature, as do many other non-luxury vehicles. As stated earlier, the feature has been around for many years so I'm curious why Honda decided not to include it on the TSX, or on any Honda for that matter. They must think that if we're too lazy to push the door lock button then we don't deserve to have the doors lock at all.

The new TL has programmable locks. Is there a way for the rearview mirror to tilt down automatically when you shift into reverse? My CL had that and it was a great feature.

What is the benefit of auto locking doors? So you don't get car jacked at a stop light? So you don't fall out while you are driving?
My roommates Prelude w/ after market alarm does this, but it has never been useful once IMO.

I hate it too. "Open the driver side door, HAL."
I don't want my car to do TOO much without my input. That's why I'm not too keen on all that futuristic stuff like adaptive laser cruise control and self parking.

If you have autolock and you crash your car into a river can your passengers open their doors by just pulling the handle or are they going down with the car.
My VW has autolock and when you pull the door handle it unlocks the driver side door. Is this true for the other 3 doors?

In my X5, the auto lock feature engages when you reach 20mph. If you pull the door handle to get out and its locked, the first pull unlocks the door and the second opens the door.
Seems like a useful feature...i like it and wished we had it with our TSXs
