Well guys, It's over

It took me all day to post this because I have been dreading it so. Tuesday, I was going through a light (and going straight through an intersection) when a guy in a Ford F-150 all of a sudden turned left coming from the opposite way. I managed not to T-Bone him, but hit the rear of the pickup truck bed. The only thing that I am truly thankful for is that my daughter (who was strapped in the back ) is absolutely fine and that I made it with minor scratches (my hand almost went through the windshield). I am overjoyed and thankful to God for her health.

Conversely,

My TL is dead. She was the best car that I have ever had, and I wish that I was not losing her, but it is out of my hands. So here is my tribute to Black Beauty...........

Ahh... so beautiful, but here she is now.

I leave with a parting shot of my darling car as I will remember her...

The Paint looks so pretty in the first pic. I feel your pain. I wrecked my Acura CL on New Years Eve. I'm still looking for another car, but it's hard to let go. Ah the memories.

Let us know what you get for your next car.

Damn, Alpha... I'm sorry for your loss, but as everyone else is saying, glad to hear that your daughter and yourself are ok. Remember, material things can be replaced, but a life can't...

~Cheers~

P.S. Good luck with the jerk in the Ford.

I guess you didn't hit your hand too hard since you made this thread hehe I'm glad that you two made it out safely. Your hand hit the windshield in the top driver side window?? How did your hands fly up so high? or were you pissed off at the other driver and punched the window? lol

I see you took out your deck faceplate. are you going to take out the whole thing? What about your chrome shift plate? id strip what i can and sell those! by the way, you still have your stock wheels??

Thanks a lot guys for the sentiments. I haven't spoken to the other guy yet. I was whisked into an ambulance because they thought that I hit my head on the windshield. I got tied down in a neck brace and put on the gurney. As much as I loved that car, I am clear on the only thing that matters and that was my daughter's safety, and my life. I am so happy that she is okay, that I am not even angry. It seems trivial considering what could have happened.

The insurance company hasn't been out to see the car yet (expected today)

I still have my stock wheels and I am going to switch them out for the rims after the insurance company picks up the car. They said that I could come to their salvage yard and get it. Since the rims are 4 lug, I dont have another vehicle that they will fit on, so I will just sit on them and see. I would rather have them sitting in the garage than give them up altogether.

I am thinking about maybe finding another one just like it, but I will keep you guys posted! The wife is not too thrilled about that prospect. With baby number two due in July, I was really not looking to get another car payment right now. Daycare for two lovely kids monthly= $1,200.00 on top of mortgage, etc..... I may take whatever I get from insurance and put it towards the wife's car (we owe less than $6K) and get a little something to tide me over. I am still waiting for the '09 TL.

I appreciate all of the love though! You guys are the best!

It's sad to see your TL gone..
Atleast you an your daughter is OK.

I can agree with you
The wife is not too thrilled about that prospect.
Kids and Daycare is already too much and trying to get into another without having a payment can be hard. My accident happen in Nov. 06 an we still dealing with insanruce company now over my medical bill, loss wages, doctor visit, etc... I have already got money for my car, but not enoght to go buy good car. Make sure you get a LAWYER better to have one then not having 1 at all.
I didn't wanted to suit the other party, but after dealing with other insurance company only way to get my bill PAY

Update:

Went to Acuracarland this weekend to look at two 2nd GEN TLs. (believe it or not) I drove a 2002 black on black one with 70K miles on it. I also looked at a 2003 silver w/black interior one with 49K miles on it.(Both were Non-Navi) I thought that I could get out of there with a decent payment and have something nice. Well, we decide to look at the black one because we just KNEW that it could not be that expensive. My wife finances cars, so she is a pitbull when it comes down to this. The dealer put the numbers down like this: $19K starting price, but knocked down to $17,800. If we put $1,000.00 down, after tax tag and title we were back up to about $18-$19K OTD. My wife tells the guy to book the car out on any website, so he goes to Edmunds and the car comes back with a retail value of $15K. He went to NADA and the value came back at $14,900.00. Needless to say, we are still looking! I will keep you guys in the loop.

You might also want to look at private sales in the AJC (Sunday's paper has the most classified ads) or Autotrader. Unless you are going to by Certified, the car dealers (Acura Carland, Ed Voyles, Nalley & Jackson) will charge significantly more. That's my ATL

Thanks for that. The only reason I looked there ( Acura Carland) was because the cars were certified, and we have bought a couple of cars from them in the past. I did look at AJC cars on Friday and they had a 1996 TL for $6K at GP Ford, but when I called on it, they said that it was gone already. I will keep scanning AJC though.
Keep the helpful tips coming, I am going to need them. I am going to call and get my own financing for when I do find something. Hopefully I can convince the wife to let me pay cash for something around $5-6K so that I can keep saving for the down payment on that 4th Gen

Nice looking car, but are you aware of the transmission problems with the 2G TL ? Anyhow, congrats on the new ride. Looks like a type S from the wheels. I recommend headers and intake, about extra 30 hp. Not sure about the chrome front plate.

I am aware of the trans issues. I remember reading the thread the day that the first guy had a problem. I bought the car with 40K miles on it. (lease return) I am not worried. I have the ACURA Tranny Warranty and I also have a 3 year 36K miles warranty on top of that. The more I drive the car, the more I love it. It was too good a deal to pass up. It was between a 2006 4 cyl Altima, this car, a used maxima with 80K miles on it, and a craptacular '03 G35 with 75K miles on it. They were all at the same price, I HAD to go with the ACURA.
As for the chrome plate, it has to stay because the wife bought it and was ticked that I never put it on my 1st GEN. I broke the mounting plates on that car to keep it off of it, but I have no excuse at this point. When the plate gets all crapped up from the bugs and whatnot and won't come clean, I can probably get away with taking it off.

Thanks guys. The Ride was priced at $17,399. I could not let it go for that price. The Acura Dealer three doors down tried to sell me 6 or 7 different '02 and '03 TL's (NON Type-S) for two to three grand more and with at least 35-50K more miles on the odo. The car booked out on Edmunds for over $20K and on NADA it booked for a little less than $19K ($18,800 to be exact) The dealer was just trying to move the car so they listed it online for this price but they had a sticker on it at the lot for $19,900.

I can't wait to start modding this thing. I think that I will start slow with the tint and the springs/shocks at first. I spent all day Sunday cleaning/conditioning the leather and washing and waxing it. I think that I will hit it with the clay in the next few weeks.

What's funny is that some people thought at first glance that I had bought the exact same car.
